  1. Generation - revising to stretch back 60 yrs, specifically to include Paul McCartney
  2. here's guys interviewing each other about the Beato interview with Brad Mehldau
  3. I’m enjoying the Beato/Mehldau interview, taking it in chunks (short attention span). The topic got me listening to more of his music, really great. More and more he appears to be using these mid range repetitive ostinato drumlike patterns, love it. The Beatle covers are amazing. Yeah.. too bad the thread got deleted. I skipped over most of the diversions, there was some good dialog on the music.
  4. Did I miss something? Did it go sideways and get banned?
  5. I thought for a second, maybe I can repair it myself. So I found this guide that shows you how to do it in easy clear steps. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+16-Inch+2021+USB-C+Ports+Replacement/150650
  6. Definitions: Rock: I don’t know, but it’s a big tent. Maybe take the R&R HOF as the benchmark? Generation: I don’t know, but it’s a long time. Maybe the last 50 yrs?
  7. Maybe another sub category = GOAT Rock Multi-keyboardist? Maybe this is akin to the Overall, meaning a keyboardist who excels and has iconic performances in multiple formats, i.e. piano, organ, synth, et al.
  8. so many great players, we live in such a fantastic generation of amazing players. Maybe more in our generation than in the last 400 yrs combined? Wasn’t thinking about it at post time, but sub categories would be GOAT Rock PIANO Player, GOAT Rock ORGAN Player, GOAT Rock CLAV Player, etc etc, and then GOAT Rock Overall Player. I still like my choices for the Overall category.
  9. Hard to choose the GOAT, but Bob Mayo, T Lavitz, Elton and Gregg come to mind. Beato should follow up and do a rock interview. What I like about Mayo and Lavitz is they deployed fantastic creativity and technique across a wide range of boards - not just piano/organ.
  10. watching these vids, and assuming they are playing live, it's wild to not see much in the way of iPads or sheet music anywhere - - how do they remember all these insane chord and timing changes? Super funkin' crazy!
  11. some AOR stuff (does anyone use that acronym anymore?). Keys = misc pads, tinkly runs, stab fills, all kinda in the background Always - Only Child
  12. Does the contract for this gig specify that you have to remain in the venue for the entirety of the piece?
  13. I went on the road last summer, I could have been grandfather to other members of the group 😂😂😂😂
  14. Always nice after it rains in L.A. Can actually see the mountains! For a bit of perspective, I grew up in Sylmar, about 15-20 miles up the road from Dave (not a good place by the way). As a kid, the smog was so thick it hurt to breathe. We’d have smog alerts in elementary school, you couldn’t go outside to play. You couldn’t see the tops of buildings, they were shrouded in a thick putrid brown-purple-green-yellow haze. Very glad for the emissions controls that were put into place - I think back in the 70s?
  15. hey that’s awesome on the Rose Bowl lady! If you happen to be there again, try adding these locations to your architecture tour; Beverly Hills / Bel Air - - just for the overall awesomeness Hancock Park - - where the rich lived before Beverly Hills San Marino - - similar to Pasadena
  16. using my MacBook - here’s an example - blank where the youtube video would be
  17. reminds me of a joint near where I grew up called “The Hot Dog”. Ironically, they had the best burgers in town. Another vote for Garage Band, only because it’s supposed to be a surprise. Or maybe a Hammond SK?
  18. OK, so maybe I was way off base on my initial reaction. If folks are willing to shell out $$ to come and see you play, no matter how old you are, and they have a great time, who’s some knucklehead internet warrior to say anything about it? One of my friends posted up this - don’t know if it’s accurate but so what! 😁😂
  19. you a funny man Polychrest 😂😂 I’m thinking of booking tickets for the year 2029 when they might play the 4th chord?
  20. seriously, thanks for the mojo Eric. I live just north of SF, crazy wind and rain up here too. So far so good, but positive mojo to the SoCal folks, wowowow!!
  21. here’s my pad, slightly elevated so I think we’ll be fine
  22. Speaking of Stephen Stills, I saw him at the Santa Barbara country bowl, way back when, maybe late 70s? I think Finnegan was playing keys. I always remember a section where they were jamming out, and Finnegan plays a chord, can’t recall which hand - - but with his free hand he moves some kind of a slider switch up and down, and the entire chord changes key multiple times, i.e. up a half step, up a couple of steps, back down - - all super fast and in time - was really cool. Does anyone remember a trick like this? No idea the keyboard, but believe it was some kind of synth, maybe the big Yamaha CS? I’m sure this could be replicated now programming a slider or knob.
