  1. I’m on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, I think it’s incredible, other worldly. And this is coming from a guy that grew up playing “California Rock”, Neil, CSNY, Eagles, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Loggins & Messina, more. I consider Old Man a priceless treasure, to be exalted and revered for generations to come. With all that, when I heard BM’s version, I was pleasantly shocked and hypnotized, a similar reaction to many of the other covers he’s doing. I heard some years back, a cover is best when it meets or exceeds the original. I think this meets that criteria, musically and emotionally, and pays profound respect to the original.
  2. I’ve had this problem a few times. I’d announce I was dating, and immediately there would be an outcry from my millions of keyboardist loving groupies. Dating announcement backlash
  3. I did, thank you! I'm slowly making my way through, it's a journey 😁👍
  4. Trying to understand the problem here? Lachey for President
  5. Here's another live show with an all star lineup in Japan. Check out an Oberheim making an appearance around the 3:45 mark.
  6. Does anyone remember a few years back, one, maybe two new folks trolls came in and starting lobbing bizarre & crazy negative posts? Edit - fixed. As I recall, I think they got booted pretty quickly.
  7. somehow I missed around 8 months of this thread. OMG!!🤤
  8. Here's another one - I could put this on a loop and listen to it all day, all year. Someone has listed the songs, easy to jump around. Bittersweet and Nirvana to start, amazing.
  9. I'm interested in the covers. Blackbird, for example - I find it mesmerizing, I could put it on a loop and have it play for a hundred years. There are scores of Blackbird covers, from locals to celebs, this surpasses them all in my view. Part of it is the attempt to play guitar on the piano, extremely cool the way he has done it, on this and many others. And it's not a fluke, happenstance, apparently he's been working on this for many many years, slowly but surely evolving, paring down to the bare emotional essentials.
  10. Starting a thread to post up some of y’all's favorite performances and songs by this great keyboardist. Here’s the one that got me started. The subtle pauses/hesitations throughout are cool as s***. I’m sure there’s a more appropriate musical term other than hesitation for those moments.
  11. please please.. I don't know where you get off posting this is in a Beato bashing thread? Please go back, rethink your life choices and come back when you've figured it out. (totally kidding if it's not obvious! Very cool indeed!)
  12. I am truly shocked you didn't highlight Leon's version of Jumpin Jack Flash!?! We all did/still-do air guitar, that one's worthy of air piano 😁👍
  13. This reminds me when I traveled to the UK many years ago. The locals said they wanted to take me out to a curry restaurant, as that’s a local tradition. We went, they handed me a fairly lengthy menu with many many items. I’m turning the pages, I didn’t see anything that mentioned curry. I said to the local guys - “I don’t see any curry?" Local guys - “It’s all curry"
  14. I learn a lot and get inspired by folks on this forum. I guess that makes a lot of you educators?
  15. surprisingly, you’re both wrong. The greatest solo is Jimi Hendrix’s opening for Rainy Day Dream Away.
  16. sounds awesome, super groovin'! The other version must be awesome too 😁. What’s the software you used to lift the vocal? ya know… you could do a mashup with “I Keep Forgettin” and this tune 👍
  17. Monster players purposely playing very simple parts, supporting the song. Awesome vid, thanks for that. You also have to give credit to the producer/production. Ted Templeman (I believe) helped interweave similarly simple parts into many songs, i.e. the repetitive single note mandolin rhythm very subtly in the background of the verses in Listen To The Music.
  18. Perhaps another sub category, the Greatest Piano Playing Preacher who fell from grace after getting exposed for consorting with prostitutes? I’m sure there's more than one, but Jimmy has to rise to the GOAT status for this category yes?
  19. You are absolutely spot on Jerry! Agree 100% I will now make the decision: The GOAT all-encompassing keyboardist of our generation. Drum roll….. BOB MAYO on the keyboards BOB MAYO
