  1. What is everyone digging as the must have software piano in 2020? Is Ivory II still the acknowledged master? How do people stack them up against the Sampletekk stuff, or maybe some others that I don't know about?

    I'm not particularly interested in playing it live with a band, I'm talking about in the box use for studio stuff - cue writing, etc. Micing up my Kawai is fun and all but only useful for a couple weeks until it's back out of tune.

  2. Just checked em out and bought the Black Grand, the White Grand and the Rain upright after listening to demos. Thanks for the recs guys, I was just about to post a question here asking which were the best piano Virtual instruments in 2020. Even if these aren't them, for the price that's a lot of bang for the buck.
  3. Alan that sucks. I wonder what they are thinking. They didn't discuss bringing you back after the pandemic? I am so grateful that the pastor at my church gig (also Methodist) values music and understands it. His wife sang with the LA Master Chorale and now works for the Symphony. These folks really appreciate our talents, and I'm happy to say that during COVID we have still been working, producing the service remotely as each musician records at home and send it to me to mix. It's literally the only 'gig' I have right now.

    I hope you find something else. The church is in a really tough spot these days. This crisis might break the back of many small congregations that were already only sporting blue hair crowds.

  4. I can't say I'm a huge fan, but you gotta respect the hustle.

    I took the time and listened to all these.

    I stand by my assessment in the first thread;

    She's talented. She's doing her own thing. Seems to market it well. Good for her. I really do think it's good to see young people going for it.

    Subjectively, I still don't like the music/style of music. And it's not a "get off my lawn" thing.

    I'm with you guys 100%. Thanks to the OP for posting.

  5. Some of those players show boat licks, problem with that in most cases is that you lose the essence of the song. Just because you can do something doesn't always mean you should. Two or three of them in the video get it.

    You can feel how you want to feel about it but I disagree pretty strongly with this take. This video isn't about them backing up a singer at some half time show, it is about interpreting a song through the lens of who they are as players. None of it was showboaty to me. There were 12 masterful voices, and I'm sure they ALL feel humble in the company of most of the other players on this video.

  6. It doesn't interest me that much. It sounds like when I play a bunch of muscle memory BS. I think Eric said it best. He plays it with solid time and technique which makes it palatable. But it basically follows a pretty formulaic 'here's some 4th licks, here's an upperstructure triad arpeggio, here's some chromaticism'. There is a way to use these ideas but make them more interesting. Just listen to Chick, Robert Glasper, or Geoffrey Keezer.
  7. Are the strings a permanent part of the band, or just used for this session?

    We just used them for this session. We cut 3 tunes like this one in one day. This is the most 'tweaked' arrangement we did that day. It sure was fun having them and writing for them. Would be fun to use them live but to do it right you'd need like 16 people in the string section to balance out for volume. Probably not gonna happen. Could also play along with VSTs but I already have my hands full.
