  1. I miss Taylor. Taylor Hawkins, that is. Say what you will about him, but when he played with his own band, Chevy Metal, he would always make time for my friend's special needs kid and hang out with him. He seemed like a genuinely great, caring guy to me. RIP, man.
  2. Jordan is good, but that magic groove is gone. I know he had Watts' approval. I vaguely remember him sounding good with the Winos. But it just feels more stiff and less groovy to me.
  3. Great underdog story!! A guy from a small Division II school in West Virginia is undrafted, seemingly destined to go unnoticed. He makes the Chicago Bears team because a scout saw something special in him. He beats out two NFL veterans to become the backup quarterback. In his first start, he leads a poor Bears team to a 30-12 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.
  4. Absolutely. But what I’m saying is that without them, I wish renamed themselves “The Stones” or something else, not that they shouldn’t continue or that they shouldn’t use another drummer. There is no more “Rolling”. Watts was that important to the group, in my opinion. But I realize this had zero chance of happening.
  5. I manually named the disks. None of them are partitioned specifically. The two that are in question were named previously, before swapping out the main 500G HD for the 4TB drive. The new external drive that I added after I got the computer back (with the 4TB drive, in other words) works great.
  6. I brought it up because I was pleasantly surprised at how good it seemed like it would be. It's not without some negative aspects, but the songwriting and performances are strong and energetic. I miss Watts. He was one of the main members. Jordan is a really good drummer, don't get me wrong, but I don't hear the "Rolling" part of the Stones so much when Watts is going. Unpopular opinion: I don't believe the Rolling Stones are the Rolling Stones without Watts. They may be good, they may still have the principal songwriters, but to me, even if it's really good, it's not the Stones. As always, YMMV, and almost assuredly does.
  7. In a blind taste test, I immediately responded to "Mess It Up", one of the songs that Charlie's playing on, and as the song went on, I realized it was him playing. That gets me going. What a groove I like the punkish song and "Rollin' Stone Blues" and one other one that I can't remember. This is through two listens. I disliked the lack of dynamics immediately. By the time the chorus comes, there's nowhere else to go. I just don't like it at all, and feel that it interferes with my enjoyment of the music. That said, it's waaaay better than I would have expected. The songwriting is good, and Jagger and Richards sound great on every track. The songwriting is really strong. I just love the singing and playing on this. Very impressive. I enjoy this much more than what I would have though, as I didn't like their previous outing of original material.
  8. A technician recently swapped out my SSD for a larger SSD in my 2017 27" iMac (MacOS Ventura 13.6). Two of my external drives keep changing permissions. I've checked "Ignore ownership on this volume" every time, then locking it. And every time I boot up the computer again, it's unchecked. How do you stop this from happening? I've never heard of this issue before, never had it happen, and cannot find anything about it online. Thanks. And yes, I've already run First Aid via Disk Utility. Since this screenshot, I also added "Administration". This didn't change anything.
  9. Ricoh makes official statement about Film Camera Project’s compacts "We reported a short while ago about Pentax releasing two new affordable compact film cameras in Spring 2024. Ricoh Europe has now issued an official statement regarding that previous report." https://photofocus.com/news/ricoh-makes-official-statement-about-film-camera-projects-compacts/
  10. What do you think of the new Stones album? No Charlie Watts for most of the album aside (and that I think he was an important enough part of the band that maybe they should be called something else), the album sounds good so far. I'll have to listen to the whole thing, but the songs seem surprisingly good. Seems really compressed, but I guess that's how people record pop albums now. I'm not so into the drumming right now, but maybe it'll grow on me. Anyway, I'm only a few songs in and have to go to sleep. "Mess It Up" sounds pretty good so far. Wasn't expecting a quasi-disco tune on the album, but it sounds good.
  11. Yeah, definitely a cultural thing. Also, I love spicy food too. I don't consider myself macho, and have no desire to be macho.
  12. Yeah, I recall no serenity with something too hot either. I mean, it's very rare that I have a meal that is too hot, but all the same.....
  13. Pepper X? Yeah. It should sound more menacing. Carolina Reaper or Ghost Pepper seem like better names to me.
  14. Wow. That sounds punishing. I can eat spicy-hot food more than most people. But I don't eat it just because it's hot. I eat it because it contributes to the overall flavor and experience and because it tastes great that way. Indian, Sichuan, Southern Thai, Kashmiri? Yeah. Love it! But this sort of thing sounds brutal.
  15. It is a serious problem. I agree with you. But I was responding to someone who was asking, "How can I be judge, jury, and executioner." In that sense, you are letting your dollars do the talking for you. There's no further obligation than that, is there? I don't like Monster Cable or Behringer. I think they operate unethically. One of the company reps for Behringer literally turned and walked away from me, refusing to answer the question when I asked, "There are rumors that your company uses slave labor in China. Is this true?" I talk about why I don't like them. I don't purchase their products. Do I have a further obligation than that? I don't have much hope that my choice or my words will make much of a difference at all. Look how many people just in this thread have purchased Behringer products. I think most of them know how Behringer operates, yet that didn't stop them because most people just want to get something that is inexpensive. I'm not going to publicly shame each one of them because they've made their decision. I'm not sure what else I should do. If someone feels comfortable supporting a company that they know is a scumbag company, then what else should I do?
  16. Pentax will release two film cameras in Spring 2024 Ricoh revealed that they will release two Pentax compact film cameras in Spring 2024. This is the first time two camera models or a timeline have been mentioned. https://photofocus.com/photography/pentax-will-release-two-film-cameras-in-spring-2024/
  17. Why the Pentax Film Camera Project might be successful Creating new film cameras strikes many as odd. Why might the Pentax Film Camera Project be successful? https://photofocus.com/opinion/why-pentax-film-camera-project-might-be-successful/
  18. You either choose to give your dollars to a company or you don't. It's not quite as dramatic as judge, jury, and executioner. There is also no obligation. Do what is comfortable for you.
  19. Yeah, exactly. If you have Mahomes, you must still include them in the conversation. Well, him and Andy Reid.
  20. Oh yeah, their build quality is awful. On top of the ethical component, which I don't think bothers many people anyway.
  21. I would pay 15% for a company so they could pay the licensing fee. I would not pay 15% for Behringer so they could pay the licensing fee. I'm not going to support scumbag companies who have been found guilty of patent infringement numerous times and appear to have used slave labor.
  22. That seems likely. KC is struggling a bit with their inexperienced receivers, but I think we are all used to them figuring it out and are conditioned not to count them out.
  23. There are a variety of types of images, and when you use an existing photo as the basis or influence for an AI-generated photo, then you obviously blur the line (although ultimately, the created photo is STILL nothing to do with light, but using a photo to inform how it renders the AI-generated photo). AI should not be viewed as a "demon" necessarily. We all use AI. And many of don't even know it. Using a phone? Making a call in to a large company? Use the internet? Too late. You've already used AI. I use AI to denoise my photos. Faster than me doing it by hand, and more effective than non-AI denoising. And regardless of what you or I think of AI, it's already out there, and there's no stuffing it back in the bag. I'll use the good stuff, ignore the bad, and hope that it doesn't become uber-sentient any time soon and start messing things up.
