  5. That would be fascinating. The closest he's come to this is this remix competition many years ago: https://musicthing.blogspot.com/2006/06/peter-gabriel-remix-competition-win.html
  6. He sounded fantastic in person during the concert that I saw in Los Angeles recently.
  7. I'm not surprised that this photo is complete BS. I think I saw this making the rounds a while back. This sort of thing is only going to get worse as AI-generated images become more photorealistic. It's already surprising how many people are easily fooled by even the most ridiculous images, and this technology is only getting started.
  8. I never thought that firewire would ignite people's passions by this much. I will say that if you don't like how Apple supports tech that they developed, you're really going to need to be wary of Google products.
  9. For sure. You might choose a high-end compressor for a number of reasons, sometimes like what Brother Dave is describing. But drawing out mouth clicks or altering the amount of breath fade-in isn't among those reasons.
  10. I've always gone easy on compression. I don't use it to excess. In the analog days and when I had a board, I recorded vocals with a finger on the fader. I raised it and lowered it slightly. To do this, you better know the song, though. Now, I record digitally. I use compression to "shave off" some of the transients, but otherwise have it so it's not very heavy-handed. I use automation or clip gain for a lot of stuff instead of compression. So I still go easy on compression. Is it more work? Sure. Does it sounds better? I think so. P.S. I am fully aware that if I had an extremely high-end hardware compressor, I may be singing a different tune. However, I do not, and neither do most people.
  11. Yes, I'd say 42-zip qualifies as "already over".
  12. The Chargers dropped 21 on the Raiders in one half!!
  13. I have never heard the Manley Massive Passive plugin. I have, however, heard the hardware unit. It's the best, most musical EQ I have ever heard. If the plugin sounds half as good as the hardware unit, it's gotta be great. I know Eveanna, but would say this regardless. That EQ is amazing.
  14. Nocturnal echoes: Photographing abandoned beauty in Kansas nights What did we find to photograph at night in Kansas? It turns out quite a lot. https://photofocus.com/inspiration/nocturnal-echoes-photographing-abandoned-beauty-in-kansas-nights/
  15. Bright ideas: The best light painting tools for night photography A common question is what light painting tools I recommend for light painting for night photography. Here’s what I recommend — and why. https://photofocus.com/photography/bright-ideas-the-best-light-painting-tools-for-night-photography/
  16. I didn't put my MacBook Pros on the "good" list for that very reason. I have had a couple of those (2011 and 2012), and both have completely dead batteries. Thankfully, we did not experience anything that was much worse than that. Bursting into flames is not a feature I want in a laptop. All my other Apple products have been more than solid.
  17. Good: RME Fireface UFX. This could not be better. Always connected. Always sounds great. Always works. I will likely always buy RME from now on. I've never had such a great audio interface before. Roland and Korg analog synthesizers: JX3-P, MKS-70, and the Korg MS-20. They just keep going and going and going and going and going. _____ I didn't do my "bad" list. Presonus Firestudio - the first one arrived DOA. Sweetwater sent another one. That one worked, but it kept losing connectivity. I finally got sick and tired of it and got an RME Fireface UFX. That thing is rock solid. When the Presonus did work, it was a pretty decent value. But too many issues. I'm forgetting one or two of the other issues it had as well, but wow, what a hot mess that was.
  18. That's where I first met him. Like you say, great guy. Those were great parties, so many cool people there.
  19. Brother HL-2270DW B&W laser printer just keeps going. This has got to be at least ten years old. Mac Pro 1,1 2006 computer and Pro Tools just keeps going too. Seventeen year old computer, and because it has an SSD in it and tons of RAM, it operates faster and better than when I got it. Tons of tracks and plugins for days if I want it. Pentax K-1 is such a solid workhorse of a camera. They have videos of people taking showers with this camera, only to have it keep working. This is one of my two workhorse cameras for night photography. The other one is a Nikon D750, and while that one isn't built with as much weatherproofing and robustness as the Pentax, it's really not too bad either. SM-57s. I've had some of them since I as a kid, purchasing them used for $15. Sounds great!
  20. I do know that the person doesn't necessarily have to be a good person. But this year, I'd say it is. And given how she's been so influential in so many ways, I feel she's a great choice. You couldn't help but hear about her all the time, and that's so much because she's been so inspiring to people in so many different ways. That's not difficult to understand at all. Also, I'd like to point out that Hamas is not a person.
  21. She influences or affects so many things. It's a good choice. She's seriously moved the needle in so many ways for the past year.
  22. Some of you might remember someone who posted under the name Tedster. He unfortunately passed away in late November. He was full of class, warmth, and humor. I met him in person, and he was of course exactly the same way. Very talented musician as well who could write songs, sing, and play guitar beautifully. If you wish to write some words about how you remember him for his friends and family, please do so by clicking here.
  23. IMPORTANT – GREAT NEWS! After publishing this article, I discovered the firmware upgrade is for all Pentax K-1 cameras, both Mark 1 and Mark 2. There are two pages for firmware upgrades, and one of them only stated “Mark 2”, which was confusing. We will hopefully be updating this article, but until then, I wanted you to be aware of this. And yes, I installed the firmware successfully in my K-1 Mk 1! Go here for the firmware download and directions (Ricoh site): https://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/k-1/firmup/index.html New Pentax K-1 update improves astro photos without GPS! Ricoh announced a new firmware update for their full-frame Pentax K-1 Mk II. This includes Astrotracer Type 3, improving its ability to create Milky Way, astrophotography and deep sky photos. https://photofocus.com/photography/new-pentax-k-1-mark-ii-update-improves-astro-photos-without-gps/
