  1. Good: RME Fireface UFX. This could not be better. Always connected. Always sounds great. Always works. I will likely always buy RME from now on. I've never had such a great audio interface before. Roland and Korg analog synthesizers: JX3-P, MKS-70, and the Korg MS-20. They just keep going and going and going and going and going. _____ I didn't do my "bad" list. Presonus Firestudio - the first one arrived DOA. Sweetwater sent another one. That one worked, but it kept losing connectivity. I finally got sick and tired of it and got an RME Fireface UFX. That thing is rock solid. When the Presonus did work, it was a pretty decent value. But too many issues. I'm forgetting one or two of the other issues it had as well, but wow, what a hot mess that was.
  2. That's where I first met him. Like you say, great guy. Those were great parties, so many cool people there.
  3. Brother HL-2270DW B&W laser printer just keeps going. This has got to be at least ten years old. Mac Pro 1,1 2006 computer and Pro Tools just keeps going too. Seventeen year old computer, and because it has an SSD in it and tons of RAM, it operates faster and better than when I got it. Tons of tracks and plugins for days if I want it. Pentax K-1 is such a solid workhorse of a camera. They have videos of people taking showers with this camera, only to have it keep working. This is one of my two workhorse cameras for night photography. The other one is a Nikon D750, and while that one isn't built with as much weatherproofing and robustness as the Pentax, it's really not too bad either. SM-57s. I've had some of them since I as a kid, purchasing them used for $15. Sounds great!
  4. I do know that the person doesn't necessarily have to be a good person. But this year, I'd say it is. And given how she's been so influential in so many ways, I feel she's a great choice. You couldn't help but hear about her all the time, and that's so much because she's been so inspiring to people in so many different ways. That's not difficult to understand at all. Also, I'd like to point out that Hamas is not a person.
  5. She influences or affects so many things. It's a good choice. She's seriously moved the needle in so many ways for the past year.
  6. Some of you might remember someone who posted under the name Tedster. He unfortunately passed away in late November. He was full of class, warmth, and humor. I met him in person, and he was of course exactly the same way. Very talented musician as well who could write songs, sing, and play guitar beautifully. If you wish to write some words about how you remember him for his friends and family, please do so by clicking here.
  7. IMPORTANT – GREAT NEWS! After publishing this article, I discovered the firmware upgrade is for all Pentax K-1 cameras, both Mark 1 and Mark 2. There are two pages for firmware upgrades, and one of them only stated “Mark 2”, which was confusing. We will hopefully be updating this article, but until then, I wanted you to be aware of this. And yes, I installed the firmware successfully in my K-1 Mk 1! Go here for the firmware download and directions (Ricoh site): https://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/k-1/firmup/index.html New Pentax K-1 update improves astro photos without GPS! Ricoh announced a new firmware update for their full-frame Pentax K-1 Mk II. This includes Astrotracer Type 3, improving its ability to create Milky Way, astrophotography and deep sky photos. https://photofocus.com/photography/new-pentax-k-1-mark-ii-update-improves-astro-photos-without-gps/
  8. I've seen them live twice, once in Las Vegas and once at the Hollywood Bowl, and loved them both times.
  9. I've seen people making references to Mackie being run poorly now. And I am assuming that RØDE is run well now? Just curious. I was one of the first people to get the RØDE NT2 in the US and A, as I happened to be in the market for a large diaphragm condenser at the time. It has a very pronounced rise around 12kHz but at the time was perfect for this atmospheric, breathy female vocals I so often recorded. The outer mesh was cheaply made (don't worry, their stuff is made MUCH better now) and fell off years ago, but the microphone was still working last time I fired it up.
  10. Undoubtedly both. AI is only in its infancy and it's already both. I occasionally encounter people who declare, "I refuse to have anything to do with AI." Too late.
  11. Most people are going to come here telling what's wrong with this. It lacks soul, it's pedestrian, it's poorly written, unimaginative, leaves you flat, etc. And yeah, it's all that. My overall take, however, is probably going to be different. I'm gobsmacked that a program can learn to do this. This is stunning achievement technically. Generally, this sort of technology will help us to do some very useful things. And it's going to do a lot of horrible things that will be unwanted. But nonetheless, the technology, while still in its infancy, is already extremely impressive.
  12. I turned off my phone last night. When i booted it up and entered the passcode, it froze for about 10 seconds or so before continuing. I've never had any of my phones do that before. Apart from that, things seem to be fine today here in sunny Southern California.
  13. It's never too late to photograph the detritus of civilization. There's certainly some of that everywhere. I love that, unusual landscapes, and more. I actually used to do a lot of travel photography and stuff before, but when I discovered night photography, that was it!! Thanks!
  14. Review: Flexispot C7 Premium Ergonomic Office Chair (I get asked all the time if I get to keep the items I review. The answer is yes. This is in addition to getting paid as an author at Photofocus.) "Flexispot sent us their C7 Premium Ergonomic Office Chair. We checked it out to see if it could be beneficial to you. Flexispot previously sent us their E7 Premium Standing Desk, a motorized adjustable table that was attractive, sturdy, and functional, earning a five-star review and an Photofocus Editor’s Choice. I was curious to see how the ergonomic office chair would compare." https://photofocus.com/reviews/review-flexispot-c7-premium-ergonomic-office-chair/
  15. WORKSHOP AT NELSON! Hello friends, this is information for the Nelson Ghost Town workshop for April 2024. The other Nelson workshop sold out in four days. Thanks! (NOTE: one sold out already ten minutes after we posted this) https://capenightphotography.smugmug.com/Nelson-Ghost-Town-April24/n-Mkkcmt
  16. See, this is worth keeping the post then. I briefly considered deleting it, then thought, "Nah, we'll have something interesting happen." And there it is. Congratulations, and yeah, I will bear that in mind next time I publish a book. I am on my fourth book now, and I will not be going with the same publisher again.
  17. Yeah, it did. Sorry. I thought that it was a recent occurrence because some of my friends began posting it today. I get faked out with dates when I see several people posting something at once.
  18. That's just nuts. Taylor Swift Makes History as First Artist With Entire Top 10 on Billboard Hot 100, Led by ‘Anti-Hero’ at No. 1 "Taylor Swift scores one of the most historic weeks in the 64-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, as she becomes the first artist to claim the survey’s entire top 10 in a single frame." "All 10 songs in the Hot 100’s top tier are from Swift’s new LP Midnights, which, released Oct. 21 on Republic Records, blasts in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with the biggest week for any release in seven years" https://www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/taylor-swift-all-hot-100-top-10-anti-hero-1235163664/
