  1. I'd say we're here to discuss gear AND musicianship. Fine, he's a showman, and it is called Show Business...blah blah, but in a discussion of musicianship, I think it's fair to point out the difference between LD and say Bill Evans, George Shearing, Herbie, Joe Sample, Zawinul. etc. etc. Angus Young vs. Clapton or SRV. I'm also sorry that to earn a living, he has to resort to prioritizing showmanship , but that doesn't give him a pass in a discussion of his musicianship.
  2. I'm fine with that, but I have yet to enjoy hearing this guy play. He values his "performance" so much more than the music, it's hard to listen to. Yeah, he's not much of a singer, but I could easily look past that if he showed some depth and taste, but his playing is shallow and show-off, and his mind is so obviously on selling tickets and merch. It's not for me.
  3. I know and have played with both Peter and Jim, and they are fine musicians indeed.
  4. There's been persistent rumors of a new Sampled C7 Library/Instrument that I've been trying to confirm. Maybe it's one of these teased products.
  5. Yeah, I remembered how to get around it and deleted my post just a couple minutes after posting.
  6. Is this old news or new news. I've been asked a couple of times about the new sampled C7 from Yamaha, and I haven't a clue.
  7. SN fiddle?? As a younger session musician, any time I altered a factory preset to my liking, if I saved it, I always put the letters SN in front of the name. I once had a producer drive me nuts trying to get him happy with an EP sound. Nothing I played was good enough, and finally he said he would go home and get the cartridge from his DX and bring me the sound he wanted. Sure enough, it was called SN Rhodes, (my patch) and one I'd already played him a couple hours earlier. 😖
  8. If asked to duplicate that sound, I would go with these. To play this song in a club, it hardly matters if you have the exact same sound. It's the part, not the sound that matters.
  9. I saw them back Dylan in the 60s, when Dylan first went electric. Dylan did his own opening, playing acoustically and then they all came out after intermission. I'll never forget Robbie coming up to the mike and saying it was good to be back in Buffalo. Buffalo was always like school to us. That was because of the influence Stan Szelest had on all of them while they were Ronnie Hawkins' Hawks.
  10. My wife's Painting Professor always said, if your kid likes to paint, buy them paint and shut the f*ck up! You don't teach them how to "properly" hold the brush, or how to stipple, you just let them have fun. We're taking about a 5 year old. As Maria Montessori would say, "Follow the child".
  11. Sounds like the EG has it covered already. Does your drummer want him to give it to you instead? Good band BTW.
  12. I think the point some folks are trying to make is simply that RS comes up short in the feel/swing area, and could learn a lot from Shearing. However, it does not appear to be his goal
  13. Night and Day. There's so much feel, swing, cool, hip, whatever you want to call it. Shearing kills! It's so obvious that he plays for the beauty in the notes, not to show off.
  14. Just stumbled across this..............oh never mind. 😉
  15. I may have just found one with all intact, but the synth (circuitry) is dead. Does $1600 sound about right??
  16. I have an old Mini separated from it's case & keys, altered for midi via a Roland CV-Midi converter. I don't have the old keys/case anymore, but thought if I could find an "for parts only" Mini, I might try to have it restored to original. I've got an email out to CAE Sound. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thx, Steve
  17. Sorry to be just now paying attention to this, but when I try to use Paypal, it only shows a $1 amount. I'm cheap, but not that cheap! How do I change the one time amount? Nevermind.
  18. Wes Taggart gave me Jareth Lackey at SynthPro. Northern AL. I went to his site and sure enough, he's living in Ft. Payne, but his phone number is still an 850 area code. KC comes through once again!! 😍
  19. Neither of those rings any bells, but thanks for the leads. I may be able to figure it out by booting up an old computer and searching the old emails. I'll try that when I get home. thx again.
  20. a few years ago (pre Covid), I heard about a guy in the Pensacola/Ft. Walton area who was considered a Moog repair Jedi Master of sorts. I found him and reached out, and he said he would look at my (keyless) Mini/Roland CV box combo, to see why it had quit working. I packed both pieces up and brought them to the area, but along the way, I somehow lost his contact info. I can't even remember his name, let alone how to reach him. By chance, does any of this ring a bell for anyone here?
