  1. Curious about this as I've been postponing this for ages. A few things I've concluded No insights as far as organizing it - just tons of busy work. When I did some searching, I thought the price per photo to have it professionally scanned was high. Several years ago I bought a miniscanner that was simple to use, but quality so so. I wonder what scanners exist out there that simplify the loading of photos. I felt i spent a lot of time with a regular scanner with cutting and adjusting. I really would like to get this process well defined before really starting. Some of the old photos need color correction after the photo. Scanning photos from the early 80s for my mom's 80th birthday, i had to color correct > 80% of the them. However, some of the standard algorithms in the software seem to do the trick, so it was really just a few mouse click, but it was time consuming. Just go back from vacation in WDW with my daughter. Wish I had my old pics scanned so I could easily locate from the times I went as a kid and teen and compare.
  2. Awesome memory David. My earliest memory was moving to another country and staying in a hotel for a few months until we got settled (1980). My dad taught me some simple melodies on a piano (he even made some notecards) and the hotel staff would let me sneak into the bar lounge in the morning (which wasn't opened then IIRC) and let me tinker away at the piano.
  3. Did you try to contact Narfsounds? (Francis Capistrano). He sells package of popular sounds for the Fantom (as well as Kronos and Montage), he may be interested in doing this for you.
  4. Enya - Orinoco Flow - Roland D-50 "Pizzagogo" patch. There's other songs that used this patch, but it's always the 1st song I think of. The M-1 organ patch in house music comes to mind, but I can't think of a specific artist in the genre.
  5. No much to it - Rod was my nickname when I lived in the US (my name is Rodrigo). when I joined the forum (2001?) I was living in California (My user name actually started as Rod CA). S is my last name initial. When I started participating in forums sometime around 1995 I used different handles, after a while I realized I just rather use something close to my name. Since my daughter was born I usually have a picture of her.
  6. Interesting point - I frequently vent on the availability of spare parts and experienced folks, and I have to admit that I am probably in much better shape that you at UAE (so I should stop complaining... 😀 ) We do have some really good techs here in Sao Paulo... usually the tough things is getting the spare parts, mostly due to the high import taxes / logistics / monopolies (probably the worst aspect), but typically not any kind of prohibition. Do miss how things were easier when I lived in the US and Europe, though! Anyways, looking forward to moving to a house next year - where I will have space to open up gear and challenge myself to some DIY stuff myself.
  7. Curious about this - are you planning to create a separate control surface with the Kronos sliders (a la the Roland PGs)?. Or just have the key controls on the rack? Always amazed about these projects, I have neither the guts nor skill level (and likely patience) to do these.
  8. Cool discussion. Don't know in other countries, but here in Brazil the younger crowd (< 20 i'd say, maybe as much as 25) recognizes these tunes as "wedding music" - and seem to enjoy it in this setting - not disco, not 70s.
  9. Hope you feel better! Happened to my mother 2 years ago. Nasty fall, cracked the coccyx. She used a specialized cushion. There were two models she tried. The one that worked better was a foam one that is U shaped. The other one, oddly is the type the doctor recommended but she didn't like, is round and inflates (looks like a small buoy). She said she liked alternating between the cushion, standing a bit, and sitting in the couch. I can posts pictures if you'd like. But it's mostly navigating through it.
  10. On the other extreme, I remember Jordan Ruddess talked a lot about focusing on one keyboard and have well planned program changes with the necessary splits and layers throughout the whole show.
  11. Geoff Downes had huge setups a different points in his career. Saw Asia around 2007 and it looked like a Roland Showroom, I think he had 10 roland keyboards. Geoff can play, but his setups were pretty extreme.
  12. India is a large, culturally complex country. I would ask the person to be specific, check with the bride and supply you examples. You could make a huge effort, and miss the mark at best, at worst embarrass or irritate the guests. Having had close relations with people from over 40 different countries, I've seen a huge share of binational couple where one part has extremely low, embarrassingly incorrect or stereotypical knowledge of the other ones' culture.
  13. Terrible news, amazing drummer. My age, so these kind of news always hit a little harder. Show here in São Paulo would hvae been next (today-Sunday)- my brother had tickets, was trying to talk me into it a few weeks ago, but I can't deal with Lollapalooza, too chaotic. Did not have issue with Bogota's altitude when I went, but Laz Paz is awful. (3600 m, 12000 feet or something like that). Thankfully my business trip are to Cartagena and Barranquilla at sea level.
  14. Thanks.. forgot about that one. It's on my bucket list...
  15. Reminds me of the concept of the Palette Aluminum Professional Control Surface Kit - custom building your surface kit out of individual modules. I think they are not sold anymore. If felt a bit useless and was expensive for typical controls, but for more advanced controller as you mentioned would be cool.
  16. Thanks John. Missed your post on the recent gear purchases! The Lenovo option looks great, thanks for posting your thoughts on this. I have no room for something like this, but will soon and this looks exciting.
  17. I typically screen protectors on phones because I keep dropping them, but never have on the iPad, as I typically use a case with a cover. When you setup a new device you can create a mirror image of an existing device, if you have the icloud backup. There may be other ways, but the icloud way works. Have done it a few times. The pdfs I think it depends on the app.
  18. The wavestate has me convinced, and I thought the modwave had some interesting capabilities. I don't get the opsix- it doesn't seem to bring anything new.
  19. Would like to get some feedback from folks about their favorite way to improve the experience with soft synths, with tactile improvements vs just navigating the controls with the mouse. The release of the new korg soft synths has me thinking. They ones I've tried Using touch surfaces - I have a MS Surface and an iPad, and when placed at the right position improve the experience, but doesn't get the feel of a physical controller. For me, with stubby fingers and the size of the surface screen, it's not always easy to reach the control. When I move to the house and will have a large studio space, I'm considering investing in a larger touch screen. Using dedicated hardware boxes, mapped out to a specific softsynth- Use it occasionally, and there's some newer devices which have grabbed my attention such as the MIDI fighter twister, which has endless encoder. I wish device manufacturers left more room for overlays, so you don't have to remember what each slider/knob does. There's a device that is sold from the Czech Republic which I found intriguing as well Other options I know of Creating a customized touch surface with something Like Touch OSC (intriguing) ? Your experience?
  20. Dave, Brazilian here as a lot of people know. Honestly, I never use these features - years of using the English language and having lived the US just makes it more confusing to switch languages like this, having functions and commands in two languages. I've always configured IT (Windows, Microsoft Office, my iOS apps that are international, and so forth) in English. But I'm probably not a reference. So to try to give a different perspective - I have musician friends in Brazil who speak very little to no English (and I participate in a Brazilian "Keys chat" in Portuguese), and I would say the issue is the topics themselves being in English which would prevent them from contributing, and not the site functions themselves. The site translation function in chrome is pretty decent too. What David said is correct, and there are few others as well at different places in the page. I can pin point specifically the problems if it helps.
  21. https://www.musicradar.com/news/korg-wavestate-opsix-native-soft-synth-plugins https://www.korg.com/us/products/software/wavestate_native/ https://www.korg.com/us/products/software/opsix_native/ Surprising move. Was waiting for a module version of the wavestate, this may change my plans. I'm excited about the continued attention Korg has given to softsynths both in computer platforms and tablets.
  22. If they are do a rack again, I would hope for a a 2U. The motif racks are 1U but so deep they create havoc in my rack and more clumsy to carry to gigs. I like the 2U format they used for the CS6r for example.
  23. Can you return it? If it's this badly taken care of, you don't know what else has happened, something spilled inside which could cause electronics issues, keys malfunctioning. If you keep it, I would open (or better, have someone experienced do it) and inspect inside. Several users here are more experienced than I am and can suggest specifics. In general keyboards can take a fair amount of abuse, but it's recommended to steer away from this unless it's an incredible price or a rare/unique piece of equipment.
  24. I have it. If it's relevant, it's really based on the workflow. I like the supernatural sounds. There's some cool dynamics tricks on some of th sounds. Honestly, I still enjoy the experience of searching for sounds in a rack module much more than clicking in a VI. Sounds mix well I like having access to the old XP/JV sounds. With all its power, it has a surprising limitation on user setups, this may be a drawback As it only allows loading 4 cards at once, this may limit you in a live environment. Can it be substituted by a VI? Probably. I'm not selling mine.
