    Yeah, maybe. For a guy like me, though, a brand new VV73 under $5K would be a better bet than a fifty-year old beater that has been God knows where. I loved my Rhodes when I had it and I still miss it, but I could tell maintaining it would be a continuous expense. I sunk $1500 in refurbing it, and still little quirks popped up here and there.

    My buddy Norman has flown with the MODX6. In a bag, it’s about the size of a guitar, and I’m sure you have seen plenty of those being stowed on top of other bags in the overhead compartments. IME, flight attendants are usually helpful when it comes to musical instruments.

    idk, I think pianos sound just fine on my 8030C’s.

    IDK, that seems steep. I’d say at $399 a no-brainer, at $499 or $599 still an instant buy. Above that, I’m gonna have to think about it a bit more. I already have the MODX which is sonically identical to 1st-gen Montage. But I’m still doubtful there will be a stand-alone plugin. And if there is, I wouldn’t be surprised if they make it subscription-only.

    idk, I have Gadget 2 and Triton (Extreme). Happy with them, but there’s nothing Kronos in there AFAICT

    I have a Presonus set for the tv, two Eris 5’s with the Sub 8. When I move my home studio to a bigger room, I will get the Genelec 7350 sub to pair with my 8030’s. You miss a lot when you don’t have one, although I don’t feel it compromises mix decisions.

    Yeah, the D1 sounds are terrible, but frankly, it is more of a controller with some sounds thrown in as a bonus. I only use the internal sounds when -for example- I'm recording a singer and quickly need to give them the correct pitch for a note or something. It comes in handy for that. But trying to play it as an instrument is excruciating. But it is the nicest weighted action for $700 that I have come across.

    I don’t get it, a Nautilus 88 is cheaper, has the same sounds and action, and waaay more. What is the added value here? The tube?

    Hey Dave! I'm super-interested in Pianoverse, on the strength of the demos on their site, especially the ones by Montesanti. The YF sounds pretty amazing, but there is only one way to find out for real, of course. How does it compare to your other libraries?

    I bought Pianoteq 8 Stage around Thanksgiving on the strength of the recommendations here (and elsewhere), but so far it’s not doing it for me. I love the customizability, though, and the UI is great. I’m not writing it off yet, and fire it up once in a while to see if anything has changed. After some wandering, I keep coming back to Keyscape. It’s not the easiest to play (from my D1 controller), you have to kind of adjust your playing to it, but in terms of sound quality I find it bigger and warmer than anything else.

    To piggyback off the Open S Yeah, I was skeptical at first, but they have done a very thorough job. I bought Peter Martin’s 27 Essential Jazz Piano Etudes, and although there is quite a bit I already knew, they are great exercises in their own right. I enjoy practicing them. What’s good is you don’t just get the pdf, but he has videos for each exercise and I mostly study his fingering, as that is an area of focus for me right now.

    Thanks! I did a cursory search for that book and seems it’s out of print. So far I only found this one used copy on ebay for $85 😬

    I've been looking for a transcription of King Cockroach. Found something on MuseScore but it was only the first 20 bars or so. Anybody know or seen anything?

    All of Herbie's 70's Rhodes work is the official gold standard IMO, but the way he makes it sound on the 'Sunlight' album is special, I think!

    Congrats, Dave! My baby grand has this occasional mechanical noise popping up when playing in the lower midrange with the pedal engaged. Of course, when the tech is here it doesn’t happen! I’ve learned to live with it for now, because it doesn’t happen all the time. These pianos are almost like living things, with personalities and flaws, strengths and weaknesses.

    I have had great experience with all our LG products, EXCEPT the fridge. Like yours, the ice maker would occasionally go haywire and we'd wake up to find melted ice all over the kitchen floor. It is better these days, but I would not buy another one.
