  1. Same band as before - Turkish tune - Osman Aga
  2. Mostly works very well indeed despite a few moments where it slips a little. Bass a bit loud in the mix but clearly meant to feature the bass. Did I hear a Doug Rauch lick? Tasty. Good job!
  3. I came across Ladino lyrics on the wikipedia entry for Misirlou. We do the Greek version but we also do songs in Turkish, Yiddish, French, Spanish and Ladino. It helps having three singers. Thanks for the videos Jeremy - one of these days I have to get to a wedding like that!
  4. Reading now that there is a Ladino version. Does the wedding version of Misirlou have Yiddish lyrics or is it instrumental usually?
  5. Really interesting that it's performed at Jewish weddings. I didn't know. There's a great cross-fertilisation between EasternEuropean/Balkan/Jewish/Romany and Middle Eastern music. Thanks for listening and the comments. I certainly will think of it in a different light knowing that. I've only played the Dick Dale version in cover bands - this slower interpretation was new to me.
  6. It's a Greek song meaning Egyptian Girl. Seem to be getting better gigs right now playing on the world music scene with this band - and I do enjoy playing with them. They specialise in Greek rebetiko, Turkish, and other Mediterranean music. Why odd? It's all music. It's a very simple tune - pretty much a scale but I do like the performance. Maybe my perception is coloured by the atmosphere as it was a sell-out gig and a really fine atmosphere at the time we played it.
  7. Misirlou from my last gig (a ancient Greek song made famous by Dick Dale and later Pulp Fiction)
  8. It seems most of us prefer this way. Just because we don't comment doesn't mean we haven't listened or that we didn't notice anything new was here. Why the big deal about 'generating interest'?
  9. Wraub, haven't heard your music for years and listening now made me realise you might have influenced my own music at times - either that or we have similar influences. Loved it. First time i'd been to MySpace for years though - weird!
  10. Feel free to stream or download (free or paid) our EP here - the Greek/Turkish/Mediterranean band. Not the greatest recording quality (we know). I play on tracks 3, 4 and 5. Comments on the arrangements would be appreciated. Is the arrangement of track 4 too repetitive? http://delicatessen.bandcamp.com/
  11. Live not that far from the original Hotblack Desiato - the actual name of an estate agents believe it or not (I think you call them Realtors in the States).
  12. Norway would be a great band name! Confusing here though as their are tons of Norwegian musicians in London at the moment.
  13. JC, OG: Song 1 - great, funky groove - great arrangement, Song 2: allowed the rhythm some room to grow, supported the vocal well, I would have preferred more bass in the mix and would have added more momentum with slides and passing tones but your line helped it build well without bludgeoning the rhythm.
  14. Very together sounding stuff Nick, and the bass is just right - spot on in fact. The bass sits nicely in the mix. Some catchy tunes too! I like the melodic twist/longer line on Think Twice best.
  15. Different music, that was fun! MuteMath had an underlying 70s blues explosion feel I didn't expect and a fun quirkiness. Malajube were even better, quite a joyous song!
  16. My top records of 2011. http://philwbass.com/2011/12/04/my-top-ten-of-2011/ I can almost guarantee you won't agree but there might be something you dig? Anyone else have a list?
  17. Someone should change their display name to someone else's that would be a really confusing.
  18. Yeah...a sparse downbeat feel against the busy offbeat line the others are playing
  19. She Ra - Princess of Power Blatant Self-Promotion Narcissists Anonymous
  20. Thanks guys, real helpful ideas. Rumpelstiltskin. Dig the simplicity and the fills in the bass. The offbeat (bridge) thing I would have played against it in the bass with heavy downbeats rather than going with it which would have created more tension - but that's just me. I like tension. Enjoyed the song a lot - and agree about the snare sound. The cut out at the end is very effective.
  21. OK, I'll start. And I don't have any problem with criticism. I improvised this tune a few years back and I've never played it again. Do you think it has enough going for it to re-learn or arrange it for a band or is it best left as it is? Or does it suck?
