  2. Cheers C, great station! My profile and stations are at http://www.pandora.com/people/feilik
  3. I always get a kick out of how quiet this forum is on Friday and Saturday nights compared to keys and guitar forums. I always presume this is becaause all the bassists are out gigging while thousands of keysmen and guitarers twiddle their thumbs. But now, I haven't had a gig for a couple of weeks . . . which is why I'd noticed.
  4. Hey, all those with children or even just a sense of humour should check out 'Shaun the Sheep' which is a short animation the BBC are showing every day here. It's made by the 'Wallace and Gromet' people and it's very good. Google for the official website which has some clips. Even better, Youtube has most of the 6 minute episodes posted as very high quality clips.
  5. Please don't tell us yet! We don't get to see it 'til Friday night over here.
  6. Glad to see this forum getting busier again!
  7. I posted this link in one of the other threads but I doubt amny will see it and it's a cool link - so . . . Santana live in Ghana 1971! This gig had a huge cultural influence bringing that Afro-Latino-Rock sound back to the source and influencing a whole generation of African musicians (as did James Brown). It's fascinating to me to listen to how the sounds of the African diaspora fed back to and influenced contemporary African music. I remember Youssou Ndour talking about the massive influence of Rumba on those guys and it was a blast all the years I played African music to be able to dig into funk, reggae, Afro-Cuban and rock influenced grooves.
  8. Yeah, I mentally switch off during the dedications. Fortunately on UK channels we get a lot less commercial breaks so they edit it togther into bigger chunks. I should record it and ff, that would make more sense. The range of the band is incredible - I want to see Ricky Minor in BP. It's such a huge deal now that I guess fairly established singers are using it for publicity. One (great) female singer admitted she had her own vocal coach and outfit adviser and that was just or the audition. What strikes me is the difference between AI and the UK versions. There are just so many better singers in the US on this evidence. I've not really watched the UK shows but every the winners of those would not come close to the quality of the best AI singers. Anybosy who doubts the quality of this stuff, check out the Youtube clips I posted on the previous page of this thread (previous page - depending on your set-up of course).
  9. Yeah, but having suffered trying to watch TV in the US. I, for one, am happy to pay that just to have half a dozen or more commercial free stations. No commercial breaks, no pledge drives, no sponsors etc. Even PBS is a joke in the States now.
  10. They show this American Idol program as both of the week's shows successively on one of our free satellite channles on a Friday night. I am hooked, glad I haven't had a gig the past couple of Fridays. What with those performances and the fact that my football team won 5-1 and I found a free high quality stream to watch the game in comfort made for a happy evening! Glad the gig went well Geoff, I'll get to one of yours one day! For any football/soccer fans out there without a subscription to a cable sports channel: http://livefooty.doctor-serv.com/
  11. And the competition . . . Lakisha Jones - Midnight Train to Georgia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNwK32NhBXo Wow, there are some great singers in this competition!
  12. The best of this week from American Idol . . . and this is great! Melinda Doolittle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyyOmKyMt_Q My Funny Valentine Enjoy!
  13. Good luck in Ashby Geoff, I know it well! Rocky, Pandora is great and it's run by people who love music. I've had some good email exchanges with the founder.
  14. Hello!! Anyone about? Lurkers welcome! Come on, I have an hour or so before I'm back to work after I'm back from buying it, that is! http://www.pandora.com/stations/ad8e66a430d392a7133ebb30e9c2c67667b02ddad6774961 Great, great Pandora radio station above! My Pandora profile http://www.pandora.com/people/feilik
  15. Pandora rules. I have had a lot of cool email conversations with the founder, Tim Westergen. Those guys are passionate about music. Like us! I find http://www.live365.com fairly useful for music radio too.
  16. Yeah, thanks for that 09! I was beginning to think that maybe I was just ill rather than it just being withdrawl symptoms. Maybe it's a bit of both.
  17. [font:Impact]Coffee![/font] I'm having some time off coffee. The last few days (coffee-free)I've been experiencing the odd headaches and hungover feelings. I didn't connect the two. Then this morning I'm in a meeting and a work buddy offers to get me a drink. I asked him to get me a hot chocolate. Anyway the machine was broken so he brought me a coffee, hey no big deal, I didn't want to appear ungrateful, I thanked him and drank the coffee. One sip! After one sip of shoddy machine coffee, my headache disappeared; my vision became clearer; my perception notably changed. I didn't realise coffee did all that to me, I thought I just liked the taste! That's some potent stuff. I'll be back on the expresso soon enough but that was an intersting learning experience - whoah!
  18. Hey, anybody else knocked out my that great singer on American Idol. I'm not usually one for reality shows - they drive me from the TV, but there are some neat singers this year. And then there are top bassists, Randy Jackson and Ricky Minor. Lakisha Jones sang wonderfully on this tune. Check it out. You can 'ff' through the first minute or so of TV intro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V2XKIzoOVU Whoah!
  19. Thanks mate, I always wondered what apple-butter was. Sounds delicious!
  20. Maybe we could be having two parallel discussions on the same topic on different forums (even with many of the same people).
  21. Hi everybody! This works well on the GF just to build a sense of community and let you know which of the regulars are around - now we don't have the option of seeing that. We've also been able to help each other out with stuff and have some stimulating side-discussions. Paul, man, that sounds a messy experience.
  22. I'm Phil. I'm a fairly recent visitor from the Lowdown forum. I'm a bassist but first and foremost a musician. I've enjoyed some of the inspired disussions on the Keyboard forum. I don't play keyboards myself but enjoy to listen to them and accompany them. My five year old son is taking piano lessons. My favourite keyboardists include: Hancock, Zawinul, Bojan Z, Jimmy Smith, Monk, Bud Powell, Duke, Jaki Byard, Bernie Worrell, Stevie Wonder and Larry Young among many others. http://usera.imagecave.com/feilik/29-04-06_1803.jpg
