  1. I just watched some videos on mixing, and one of the first points they made was on these two slides. First, they showed the vertical one, then the one with faders and most everyone went, “whoa.” is this what you’re saying, @Anderton?
  2. This site is lookin’ gooood. I know for a fact that brother dB is doing a bang up job getting all the deets in there and everything looking nice and organized. It’s a store we can be proud of!
  3. I’m actually trying to forget the suggestions in this thread for non-B*ger inexpensive, cool synths because lord knows I don’t need any more synth-gas. 🤓 If I change my mind, though, I’ll be back here.
  4. I keep looking at the title of this thread and thinking, "there's a symmetry that's implied but didn't happen. Did @David Emm edit himself?"
  5. I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish our SoCal and any other forumites affected by tropical storm Hilary well. That seems weird to say since that pretty much never happens, but I hope it's no more than an inconvenience. Having been through several of these things, they can be mild, and almost fun, like a snow day from school, or they can be really, really bad for some. I hope it's just a wet Sunday. And I just saw there was a 5.1 magnitude earthquake centered near Ojai. Who did you guys piss off?
  6. Thanks, Jason. I did ask him some questions about gear and what he uses vs. the real thing. To be honest, I'm only somewhat familiar with his work with other artists so some of those questions you suggest would not have come to me. I did ask a lot of things I was interested in as a long time Feat fan (and actually would have liked to have asked him some questions about band personnel changes but didn't feel like those were approachable topics TBH) so I like to think I did pretty well. I will keep your ideas in mind for any future interviews they let me do. Even for other artists, there are some good ideas that can be used.
  7. What do you mean? What would you have liked us to ask him? Obviously it's too late now, but I won't learn for future interviews if you don't tell me.
  8. Fixed it for you. He's still out there, kicking butt on keys.
  9. I am a big fan of Logic Pro, but I'll step out and say all the current crop of DAWs are really powerful and fully featured when you're talking about the top versions, anyway (GarageBand, which is a simplified version of Logic, and say, Pro Tools Intro or Artist have limits that you may or may not run into depending on what you're looking to do). It all depends on your workflow, if you collaborate with anyone, what you like, if you care to deal with copy protection, etc. We have many choices and that's a good thing.
  10. And for those who haven't noticed, Recording magazine has a forum area here at MPN. I need to visit there more often…
  11. I must admit, I sort of understand Kiesel's point about getting the white guitar back from the OP and her husband. It could be worth as much as the OP's guitar, and they had a customer waiting for it who presumably paid for it, so they were in a similar situation. But you go out of your way to make it right. And even though you were very upset with them and told them so, you still do that. You stay cool, and do everything you can to make your unhappy customers put this past them and be happy with the purchase. You might grumble in private about them, but never publicly. And if it does seem like it's for the best to sever the relationship and refund the money, you don't ban them from buying from you unless it's clearly a situation where this customer is just bad business, they keep causing trouble, every purchase is an attempt to be mad at you, etc. Heck, I'd like to think that if it were me, when your husband told them he didn't want the guitar anymore and to refund the money, I would have called him and tried to talk him down from it. Kiesel screwed up several times with you, they should have gone out of their way to make sure you knew that they knew and were trying to fix it. They are small enough that the CEO or whatever could have been running around the shop making sure you were taken care of. You can't run a good business with a bad temper, but it sounds like Kiesel has one.
  12. I was going to mention Tape Op as their business model is based purely on sponsors/advertising. Their subscriptions are free, you just have to sign up and reconfirm your info every year. Then they send you a year's worth of PDF and/or print issues (they might do less than 12 issues a year, I'm thinking they might combine around the end of the year). All of this is paid for by manufacturers and other advertisers. Imagine a keyboard-focused magazine paid for by ads from the keyboard, plug in, and other manufacturers as well as vendors. I'd love to see MPN pull this together if someone is good at getting sponsors.
  13. What's funny is, neither your name nor your husband's is on your posts. And, if Kiesel made the whole thing right in the end, did it in a way that made you happy as well as your husband, you'd probably come back and say they did that. Stuff happens, problem solved. Instead, they've banned you guys as customers because you told people about your problems with them. Sometimes, dealing with a smaller company is worse when they're like that. I doubt a Fender or Gibson would be banning customers from buying from them, y'know? (I always chuckle when a company promotes that they're a family-owned business. I've worked for some businesses that were owned or run by family members and it was horrible. One had siblings that fought like a married couple, in front of everybody.) My old college roommate is a guitar player and bought a Kiesel a few years ago. I think he still loves it. Sorry your husband didn't get to love his.
  14. Even though I read EM some over the years, it was a separate magazine to me than Keyboard was. So while I sort of understood folding Keyboard into it, I really didn't. We lost a lot with that. My Keyboard subscription transferred to EM and I either cancelled it or let it lapse. Like you, I used to devour Keyboard every month when it arrived. I loved being intrigued by artists because they were described as so interesting and then I'd hear them and think, "meh." But I still learned things. No magazine since has come close to capturing my interest.
  15. Here in Houston, we still have a great record store called Cactus Music, and it has both CDs and a large vinyl section. They also regularly have in-store performances by artists as well as book signings and other appearances. It's a cool place but I rarely go because I don't buy CDs like I used to. I mostly buy from the artist to support them, read it, and put it on the shelf while I listen to it on Apple Music (which, theoretically, supports the artist again from the pittance streaming pays them). I'm usually more than happy to support an artist I love by buying their CD, especially if I can do it directly (Bandcamp is another great option). Meanwhile, we have a TASCAM CD/SD/Media player with Bluetooth for your studio in the MPN Shop.
  16. The funny thing is, Hipgnosis Songs is one of the producers of the movie, with their logo shown at the beginning with the other production companies involved. Yet, I see nothing on Hipgnosis Songs' web site regarding a relationship to the design studio.
  17. It was a great movie. I knew nothing of the story of Hipgnosis except that they did lots of the cool covers of albums I had and knew until I saw the trailer when I was there for other movies a few weeks ago. Po is, as you might notice in the trailer, the center of the film as he should be, though there are clips of Storm as well. I highly recommend it. I'm sure many of us have lots of these albums in our collections.
  18. We are going to see this movie tonight. I'm really looking forward to it. I've long seen the credit "cover by Hipgnosis" on some of my favorite albums so I can't wait to find out the stories behind them.
  19. Ha ha. but yes he would. Did you read his book, Life? It's actually amazing how much he remembers.
  20. A little OT. I recently installed a demo version of a DAW just to access some old studio sessions, and the hoops I had to go through to install it and get it running were pretty bad. I mainly use Logic, which is pretty much a no-brainer. I realize it doesn't have the additional copy protection BS that other products use like the demo I installed, but even without that, I felt like there were too many hoops that an average user wouldn't know what to do with. I realized that's another reason studios don't upgrade, besides "if it's not broke, don't upgrade it," it's just too much hassle. It made me extra glad I installed it on a separate volume so all the detritus it would throw on my computer wouldn't clutter up my day-to-day volume, and if I removed the volume, it would just be gone.
  21. All I have is GO TERPS! otherwise, my attention to CFB is cursory.
  22. Hmmm. Maybe. Obviously this is the default, and I noticed straight away that the word "Location" was stronger than the location itself. But if the only way to remove it is via code, I'd want to make sure it isn't risky or something that might reappear when the software gets updated. That's me thinking out loud. I'll look into it.
  23. It doesn’t look like the location info shows up on mobile devices. I’m now on my iPad and I’m not seeing it but it generally doesn’t show as much member detail in a smaller browser. Just so you know. edit: unless you turn the iPad horizontally!
