  1. Rolf Spuler was a luthier who made The Paradis- a guitar I believe I mentioned earlier in this thread.  He died in 2014 or so, but I believe they’re still in production through the efforts of his former business partners.  At the time, I didn’t know of anyone actually PLAYING one, though.  Then, last week, I happened to be watching Andreas Vollenweider in concert on YouTube and he took a break from his custom electric harp to play on a Paradis.  So I looked for demos of guitarists using one.  Here’s one I found.

And another.  Note this one has a quasi-headless design.

Here’s Rolf showing us the original version of his guitar (in German…🤷🏾)

bump because lol. Sounds really good, though. The concept definitely worked, even if it is unwieldly.

I wonder what would happen if you took a pickup designed for extended-range guitars (like the Lace Alumitone Deathbar) and mounted it diagonally on a 6-string.

Not a new pedal, and maybe stepping over a forum line, but these guys are from Latvia, an 8-hour drive from the Ukrainian border. Anyway, good on them.

Might be time to get that Plasma Coil…

Hmn, this apparently came out in 2019 or so... ? But I hadn't heard of it till just now, it's news to me. It made me think, "This has Winston and Harvey written ALL OVER it... " 🙃

Here’s another video that has more talky-talk about how it works, and what it does.

Not that you really need anything else underfoot, but . . .

At some point, you might want to look at one of the Pedal Switching Systems to help manage your rig. They give you lots of flexibility, in terms of switching entire chains of effects On and Off, and some of them offer MIDI PC & CC, as well. "One-Switch-To-Rule-Them-All", or something like it . . .

They're not cheap, so it's a matter of whether the added functions are worth the cost, and the slightly larger footprint. They're also much more valuable, and possibly justifable, for live rigs, where that kind of quick control is critical.

I have a single Carl Martin Octaswitch, and I love it to pieces.

If I were SERIOUS, and actually did what I started saying I wanted to ohhhhh…ten years ago (?!) and sorted my vast array of stompboxes into genre-specific boards, I’d probably own a few more Octas.  There’s something to be said for changing your ENTIRE sonic palette with a single foot tap, then doing it again to a third, fourth, fifth, etc. core tone without looking like a bad tap dancer.

…and going back to your original core tone just as easily,

  6. I can’t place the guitar.  I can think of a lot of similar designs, but when I look, the headstocks are wrong.  And even though Mike Matney has been around a while, his stuff isn’t on Equipboard.

You might try contacting him directly via his Facebook page for that band or his other project, The Screeners

    Fix’d!  🙌 🥳

I edited the post, highlighted the underlined linked URL and hit the REMOVE LINK button.  Doing this left the original URL itself in place, underline gone.  Then, I put my cursor at the end of said URL and hit return.  The vids populated.

    dB

I’m not sure I understand what happened or what you did.

What did was go to YouTube, cut the links, then pasted them here.  Previously, I would have pasted each link in the “video” wrappers.

  8. I won’t lie or exaggerate and say I’m BÖC’s biggest fan, but I have several of their albums, this one among them.

I also count the one time I got to see them as one of my favorite concerts.  Probably top 5.  It was the early 1990s, I was in

Austin, and had recently broken my foot when a friend called and told me they were playing a local club.  I didn’t hesitate- “Let’s go!”

She and I went to the club.  The stage was elevated maybe 3’ from the dance floor.  Part of me was sad that so great a band was playing in a club again, but I was glad for the opportunity.  Because I was on crutches, I found a piece of wall to lean on, my friend beside me.  We were soon joined by a huge blonde guy wearing a sheepskin vest…and no shirt.  He had clearly been drinking.  For some reason, he thought he had a shot with my friend.

Opening was a local band called Black Pearl, fronted by Lisa Tingle- a powerful and talented vocalist.  I hadn’t seen them before, but was VERY impressed.  I saw them several more times while in .Austin, and was surprised they never made a bigger splash.*

Next up, a band from Houston called Galactic Cowboys…and the drunk blonde guy peeled himself off the wall and got up on stage behind the keyboards.  Yep.  He was in the band.  GC announced they had JUST gotten signed to a major level recording contract, then started to play.  Badly.  And mostly because of- you guessed it- the drunken keyboardist.  (I heard they canned him a few weeks later, but cannot confirm.  Never saw them live after that.)

Then came BÖC, and it was everything you’d want it to be, all things considered.  Here’s a band who was a staple of the better classic rock radio stations, on a small stage, in a small club…and absolutely killing it.  They performed like who you’d think they were: rock stars on an arena tour.  All they played were hits and better deep cuts.  No filler.  High energy.

    * Last I checked, she’s still playing killer shows as a soloist down in Austin, including some Black Pearl songs in her set lists.

I like the idea of the Side Step, would love to audition one IRL. Didn't someone make an EXP Controller with multiple Out Jacks? I could use one with five or six . . .

Could not see the point of the Sports Almanac video? I got an insert box showing me some other device, superimposed over the part of the video where the guy is turning the knobs on what I assume is the Sports Almanac pedal, so I couldn't even see what he was doing. No explanation of the pedal, what it's supposed to be, or how it works?

There've been a couple of other "Theremin" pedals. Z.Vex made one that was triggered by your foot, and HiWatt briefly made a small dome-shaped Theremin device. The HiWatt was more of a toy than an instrument, but it was an interesting toy.

I personally have an Electro-Faustus optical Theremin pedal.  It’s triggered by how much light hits the photovoltaic cell.

Not the easiest thing to control, no surprise.   And I have no idea how you’d use one on a typical darkened stage.

  10.

I think of cases as something of an investment in the safety of my gear, so don’t  cheap out on them.  But neither do I go nuts.  I don’t know that I’ve spent $200 on a replacement HSC.  (I have a couple custom guitars that came in very nice cases indeed…)

Most of my aftermarket cases are from Gator, with a few Road Runners thrown in.  I’ve got at least one Fender and an Epiphone.

Then there’s things like the brand or model specific ones I have for certain guitars.

if you want more info or tips, send me a private message, or better yet, start a thread!  I bet the community could help you f8nd something that ticks most or all of your boxes.

  11. I did do that.  That’s how & why I took the screenshots.  Though I could tell the difference, they were so similar as to make no difference to me (on my Apple portable devices).

So even though I generally prefer dark themes for viewing forums, the two offered here and now are not for me.
