  1. Due to impending gigs and not a lot of choice to audition every 10” speaker known to man, I bought a single DZR10 today. I was hoping to try the Space Station XL and a motion Sound products, but it’s not possible here in Sydney. having said that, the DZR is FANTASTIC. I can’t believe how much better it is compared to the DXR10 Mk2. It’s really night and day - the DZR is warm and full sounding, and not a hint of harshness. It has a very balanced and even tone on organ, and I’ve never heard the MAG organ sound so good. I don’t feel a need yet to try out the EQ features at all. I really think the combination of better amplifier module and the plywood cabinet make all the difference. I have a gig on Sunday and will use it there. I might miss having a stereo rig, or I might not. I have both a mk1 and mk2 DXR10s that have developed weird noises that is probably due to failing power supplies. I am hoping to audition my CP4 tomorrow and will report on that also. sure it was more expensive than a lot of other options, but still affordable for me. The weight is only slightly more than the DXRs so I’m not bothered too much by that. Doubt I’d want to schlep the Space Station or a Motion Sound, who are both in the 28kg/49lb range, both with weird form factors.
  2. Anyone using one of these wooden cabinet speakers for their keyboards? they seem like an upgrade from the DXR10s that I currently have. Darren
  3. I think you should just contact Hammond service in Chicago.
  4. Thanks Dave, that’s good to hear, especially when I can’t try one out in person.
  5. Hi anyone kicking pedals through the XL version? Is it enough to drive a soul jazz situation? Darren
  6. With great respect Theo, I don't understand your post. Seems like it needs an introduction to guide the reader into your line of thinking.
  7. I really wanted the FS until I played one and realised the action was junk - at a premium price. I bought the module instead.
  8. Hi, I'd like some feedback on my latest composition/mix. I'd especially like technical feedback on frequency spectrum and perception of depth. I listen with musicians ears, not like a trained engineer, so I'm especially interested in that so I can learn. Sunlight In Your Eyes Thanks Darren
  9. Let’s hope they’ve updated the organ engine - it’s 10 years out-of-date.
  10. I’ve just recently gone back to Hanon. They aren’t perfect, but getting them up to the required tempo of 108 bpm isn’t easy. Playing them in other keys is good too. Donyani exercises are also good. I also get a lot of benefit to playing various scales with syncopated rhythms. I’ve been doing this routine for a month now and my scales are back to 1/16ths at 120bpm.
  11. I have plenty of Leslie’s. I don’t want to carry one.
  12. Does anyone make an all-valve keyboard amplifier? I recently played through a reproduction Fender Deluxe Reverb. The midrange scoop was the only drawback, but there was a lot to like about the overall tone and vibe. regards Darren
  13. Most chord spellings from the root up, and no one else has thought about it from that perspective. The root is B. I didn’t realise there’s a bass player on the track. I just referenced the chart. many ways to skin this cat, I know!
  14. i think the parent scale for that chord is Bmajor 6th diminished . that is, B major with an added b6. Chord symbol? B6 #5
  15. Oh man, I just woke up and thought “I should message Andy”. Damn that hurts. It gets increasingly challenging to make close friends as you get older, so this hurts all the more.
  16. That’s interesting. I should give the CP88 another go, but I hate playing in music stores, it’s so weird! At home I only use it for a midi controller for Keyscape. What do you think about it that is better? Nords have poor finger to sound connection for me.
  17. Got the very first CP4 into Australia years ago. I love it, its a great digital piano. Its also very flexible with loads of synth sounds that work very well in a band situation. I won’t be selling it any time soon - I don’t feel the need to upgrade at all.
  18. Thanks for the support everyone, it’s much appreciated.
  19. It is with much sadness I wish to inform the forum of the passing on January 20th of my friend and fellow Australian Andy Cutting, known on this forum as Aussie_Chicago. Andy was a life-long musician, playing percussion and keyboards, and especially enthusiastic about the Hammond B3. He also worked as a Chicago firefighter at Skokie. Andy and I met via this forum when I posted about travelling to the USA for one of my research trips. He generously offered to host me and that’s exactly what happened! We had a great time in Chicago and we did a lot of Hammond-centric things, including hearing Chris Foreman and having a lesson with him. I was happy to be able to return the favour when he and his lovely Karla stayed with us on a trip to Australia. I am constantly amazed when I make good friendships via the internet, and Andy was one of the best. Although we are from the same country, it took this forum to bring us together. We were often in contact about music, gear and supporting each other through life’s challenges. I miss him already in a big way. sincerely, Darren
  20. Faragher and Vail’s books are very good. While I doubt you will find better, you might find some gold in the company archives as mentioned above.
  21. I no longer play this tune, but I would like to collect the royalties.
  22. I just watched a couple of videos on the iConnectivity YouTube channel. Seems like just the ticket. I really wish they hadn’t put the USB connection to the computer (the main connection) on the front - why did they do that?
