  1. I'm with you, Stokely. I'd give anything to have a bass player and drummer show up every day. Man, I'm soooo sick of F#1.
  2. Remember the Solid Bass patch on the 81z? That was a money maker. I toy with the idea of putting 2600 filters in my OM8 when I can but this looks like a good way to for another bass voice in here... [video:youtube]
  3. I think a lot of it is that a minimoog under the fingers will feel like a "real instrument" where as if I'm playing bass samples I might not feel as connected but I can still play an ok bass line. Same goes for playing samples of analog basses. The mini still feels the best and the easiest to program to get the job done. Either that or I'm full of it. lol
  4. Thanks for the kind words, Bill. I'd say the same goes for you! We can't get away from it. lol
  5. Depends...most of the time it's at the keyboard. For some things I might start with guitar and for other things it starts and finishes with Sibelius (paper). There are so many ways to approach it and all are valid and worth exploring.
  6. I might concur if the Minimoog had velocity sensitivity and aftertouch. Mine does.
  7. I love it for bass. It sounds great and it's so fast to dial in what I want. I've noticed over the years that I'll use the mini a lot of the time for bass and then over the course of 4 or 5 months I'll start using it less and going for bass guitar samples and I'm not even aware of it. Then one day I'll see it and decide it's time for a tune up. Right after that it's back in most mixes again and the cycle continues.
  8. Nice stuff everyone! Man, db's making me wanna go find a QS8. lol I do a fair amount of lib. music so here's a couple of those. They usually run 1 to 3 minutes and end up in a variety of places. They can land in feature films, under commercials, piped into elevators and restaurants, or someone's personal project. You just never know who's going to use it and what they might use it for. Midnight Snack is sort of a funky blues thing. Nothing to it really and no solo section or anything. Just a bed for production. Tightrope is an orchestral fantasy/magical type tune. That's what fun about doing the lib things. You can pick a category on the list and go anywhere you want that day.
  9. I've got an early '70's Stephen Paul mod U87 and love it. Everyone sounds great on it but me.
  10. So...nursers and I are the mods down below on the Songwriting and Composition Forum. If you feel inclined, please share some of you music there and help us get it going. Each of us have things to share and it's nice to discuss the "how to's" Here's a DEMO REEL I put together a couple months ago. It has some original things and some concert footage of arrangements I've done for different folks. Anywho...you composer types stop by the S&C forum and we can bounce things off one another and talk about the nuts 'n bolts of it all.
  11. I had another friend who was there last night and said they were both smokin'! I was hoping this tour would come to Vegas, but no dates yet.
  12. I've looked at Upwork or Fiverr, but they didn't knock me out.
  13. Guy always seems to be right on the "money".
  14. If it's a vocal tune it's much easier for me to have the lyrics first, but it's rare I get 'em that way. Usually someone will come to me with a few changes and a melody/lyric idea and then I help them flush it out. I'll spend some time on it alone and then we'll get together and work out the kinks. I think the only times when I got all the lyrics first was doing ad music. I'm like GregC and for myself I write instrumental things since I don't really sing. Thinking about it...it's been a while since I've even done a vocal with someone, but I do the ad thing and work with vocalists all the time. Kind of goofy though.
  15. You bet! I love talkin' this stuff. I studied composition with Dave Blumberg for 5+ years and then an additional year with Dell Hake. They were so helpful to me and I miss them dearly. Both were at the top of the game and they each just loved talking music all the time. I look forward to the conversations here and hearing all the music from the members. All of it interests me.
  16. Nice, Greg! We're gonna have fun down here and share/learn from each other and help one another when we can.
  17. Very nice, Oscar. Bravo, Sir. Love what you did @ :27 - :33.
  18. Thank you much dB and nursers! I'm glad to be a part of it.
  19. He's such an amazing musician. I can't even begin to imagine what it'd be like to have all of that cocked and ready to go. He sure has a deep understanding of it and such a playful way to explore it.
  20. Booker T was the start of it all for me and I'm still chasin' it [video:youtube]
  21. My last B3 had black naturals and white sharps.
  22. I had a gig where the leader wanted me to paint my minimoog black. I wouldn't do it so he got a mini and painted it. Who'd a thunk?
  23. I use it when I need to lock DP and Sibelius together.
