Very old school Prince vibe. I also helped contribute funding to the new record by The Rebirth. NewImprov
At this moment, I'm hearing this album for the first time: [video:youtube] It's really quite beautiful. Potter's string writing is really nice, and the strings integrate into the jazz ensemble very nicely and non-forced. Previous it was the new Daniel Lanois: [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXGPuygaY_Q Really beautiful, lush-sounding stuff, all instrumental. I saw Lanios a few years ago when he toured with the Tortoise as his opening act and backing band, and that remains one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Yesterday, it was all about the new King Crimson: Live at the Orpheum. Brilliant playing, but only 41 minutes long, which seems rather chintzy given that they were playing 2-3 hour shows on the tour. The closest they came to me was Seattle, and I had a gig and couldn't go, but friends who did said it was life-changing. mate stubb
Was coming home in the car with my wife tonight from the theatre. The local college station, which usually plays the standard emo fare, played "21st Century Man." Next up was "Close to the Edge." Had to sit in the driveway and wait for the pipe organ climax of "I Get Up." Quote Moe ---
dama
speaking of Daniel Lanois, I found this on WFUV site. He was a studio guest. Here he is all over the knobs and sliders/programming .... I found it fun to watch. He is an amazing talent and really creative- IMO.
