The original version is superior. Way more drama.
Synthaholic
I agree. I'm not a big fan of this version, or really, any of Gino's remakes of his older songs. The originals are near-perfect for me. They are pretty impressive live, though. I saw them open for Larry Carlton in 1987 at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Tampa. Fantastic players, especially Haslip. Dana.
Prince has always had great drummers, but the drummer in 3rdEyeGirl is a far cry from funky. How did her overly rigid playing make the cut?

Dana.
Blonde hair and boobs? Meh. There are plenty of attractive female drummers out there who play better than her. Would they be willing to endure Prince's "quirks"? :idk

Would they be willing to endure Prince's "quirks"? :idk I get it. It's actually an ok band. The bass player is clearly the strongest player within the trio of girls. I'm sure this was Prince just trying to create a pretty backdrop for himself. Having listened to the record, his tone and soloing are still top-notch. MAJUSCULE
Oh, that's Frank Lucas's old drummer, Hannah Ford. Yeah, sounds to me like she's the rockier part of the rhythm section in the funk-rock mélange. Not sure how I feel about it. What I've heard of Art Official Age is phaaaat, though. On the subject of killin' female drummers, how about that Anika Nilles? [video:youtube] Quote Eric Website Gear page
