Wow great shots everyone. So glad this thread is still going strong. My last night in Nashville, I went out to the same spot and tried to get the sunset. There wasn't a lot of color tonight but hopefully I got something.

Clouds make for great sunsets. Hopefully you'll get something. Also, a lot of photographers pack it up after the sun sets. Sometimes, during the "blue hour", there are gorgeous colors in the sky, the landscape, the buildings, the reflections, wherever.

Pinks show up a lot in blue hour shots, don't they? And oranges. And other colors, it seems.

Nice. This really shows the drama and scale of the falls.

Oh goodness - the blue hour photos are lush. :D Nashville is even more beautiful than in the previous photo - which is blatantly impossible - so my head is spinning.

Love the climatron Bill - gorgeous colours, and what a stunning pic of Niagara!! :)

It is impossible to resist this Blue hour theme - so I will not try. Feel I must join in. :) Slight apologies for this photo: have cheated a bit as I think the sun was still up - but my poor iPad let me down here. It is really not fit for low light conditions, but it did its best. I took quite a few later on that day, but they were all hopeless....

Wow, Ken. I don't know how / where you find these things in the desert. Amazing shot.

Thanks.

A combination of reasons. I interact with a lot of people into long exposure/night photography, I put in a ton of time researching places that I think could be really cool for photography or traveling, I love unusual or cool looking natural (and unnatural) formations, and I'm just generally a weirdo. :D

This is from the "almost"-ghost town of Goldfield, Nevada. This was a real mixed-light nightmare, with yellow streetlights and other stuff really causing problems. I went ahead and light painted this anyway, illuminating the interior of the antique car and the train in the back with blue light, and illuminating the exterior of the antique car to create depth.

In Photoshop, I began color-correcting the mixed-light nightmare, and finally thought, "What does this look like in B&W?" I usually check all my photos to see if they look cool in B&W anyway. In B&W, it had this greatly increased sense of drama from the clouds, and just looked a whole lot better. I immediately stopped struggling with the color correction and went with it. The illumination from the interior really helped give it a slightly eerie look, albeit in a subdued way, but also gave the interior a great amount of detail that it wouldn't have ordinarily had.

It appears that I finally have my technical issues with the photos resolved by upgrading to Aperture 3.

Rob is my cousin and did a Texas World Tour a few years back tied in with Summer NAMM when it was in Austin. He's a Ibanez artist and that's an Ibanez custom guitar. He's on Steve Vai's label, Favored Nations.

There was a pond behind the flowers and the sun was reflecting off the water. The light combined with the wide aperture (f/1.8) provided the circles.
