kitaristi0
Know it's finally time to settle this once and for all. (I'd like to apologize beforehand because you have to understand that I can't know all the guitarists in the world.) A duck-pond, a museum, and a red hunting hat. musicalhair
When did Greg Allman start playing guitar? Does he really deserve to be on the list over Jim Hall? Was Pat Martino even on the list? I can't believe Albert Collins or Roy Buchannen or even Catfish Collins didn't make the list and "The Edge" did. Is "The Edge" even the best Irish Guitarist, because I thought Rory Gallagher was Irish. And what about Nigel Tufnel? check out some comedy I've done: http://louhasspoken.tumblr.com/ My Unitarian Jihad Name: Brother Broadsword of Enlightened Compassion. Should have remembered Gibbons.. A duck-pond, a museum, and a red hunting hat.

Even with "quantifiable" numbers, it's still hard to pick "the best". Guitar doesn't offer much in terms of metrics, other than "notes per second". Peja for MVP this year! He does it all. Tedster
Oh yeah...I forgot. I already answered this one. The best guitar player is your own personal favorite. I could vote for Django Montgomery. How about Zakk Hetfield? B.B. Ray Vaughan. Eddie Vai? Allen McLaughlin? Eric DiMeola? batterypowered
I picked Scofield, because he's my favourite dude on there. I don't know if I can really pick a 'best', though. Funk Jazz
no segovia? what about... wes montgomery pat metheny michael hedges danny gatton allan holdsworth jim hall tal farlow les paul chet atkins john mclaughlin kelly joe phelps al dimeola paco delucia joao gilberto roy buchanan jimmy bryant leo kottke pierre bensusan robert johnson john williams charlie christian christopher parkening mike stern ry cooder scott henderson lenny breau joe pass pat martino tony rice etc. i voted for django, but i don't think the list was anywhere near complete. i'd probably vote segovia otherwise. like many threads regarding the "best" "greatest" "most" whatever, there is never a single answer for everyone. you can determine the fastest runner in the world because there is no opinion involved. somebody crosses the line first. period. i'm afraid this will never be settled "once and for all." not for lack of trying, however
Dave da Dude
So many guitarist, only one choice Today it's Jimi Page Why? 'Cause I listened to Disc 1 of the Box Set and was reading the Guitar One Interviews magazine about him yesterday. Great magazine, btw. Thanks to whoever it was that recommended it. I usually don't get wound up about those kinda' articles, but this one is absolutely great, and I'm not a huge fan of Led Zep. Dave Gotta' geetar... got the amp. There must be SOMEthing else I...
