K K
Because the audience sees the Keytar on the opposite side, I suggest "Ratyek".

The Soundsmith
Freeboard is a good name, I like that! Too Skynard. Dasher - don't ask me about those other reindeer, all I can tell you is Comet's in the sink!
niacin
Just got a DVD of George Duke live in Tokyo 1983. He uses a remote keyboard hooked up to his Prophet 5. He calls it a "clavitar". The real winner in his keyboard rig however is a clav with a whammy bar in a clear perspex shell. Awesome. Yeh it's his disco phase, but man he's a monster of a keyboard player. Oh and the band ain't short of talent either. Thunderthumbs Johnson of the Brothers Johnson on bass ... stoo schultz
Freeboard is too contrived . ... How about "sword"? Like ax, but rhymes with board.
ITGITC
Maybe they make one of these and I just didn't see the review in KEYBOARD. Do they have a Keytar controller with wireless MIDI? JeffLearman
"Freeboard" isn't being used for anything else.Well, that's not actually true. "Freeboard" is the vertical distance from waterline to gunwale on a boat. (Gunwale is prounounced "gunnel", and it's the top of the outer edge of the boat's hull.) Not that it matters! As a sailor I knew this. It's not a noun in this context, it's an adjective. Sailboats also have "cars" and "sheets", but those words are successfully used elswhere as well... No signature required. AnCap
Boats also have "guys". I didn't feel the need to bring up freeboard. But, anyway keytars are awesome, and so is the name. You guys take yourselves too seriously.

I still have no problem with either the instrument or the name though. I'd love to have a stand to hold a keytar to my right at an angle, so I could strap on a guitar and play duels, unisons or harmonizations with myself.
