mildbill
i'm contemplating writing alesis directly on this. everywhere i look on the forums, the A6 is gaining momentum.latecomers who hadn't heard of it, or weren't interested in it before, have become so now.there's hardly a thread where it isn't mentioned and lots of people are saying they're 'thinking about getting one'. anyways, my point is this: sometimes it takes quite a while for a product to 'take off'.some stores seem like they may not be interested in carrying the A6 anymore ('only 2 left'), etc.my hope is that alesis continues to build, promote and enhance the A6.i also am one of those people who doesn't own one yet, but would like to in the near future.i hate it when products get discontinued prematurely and then become hard to find.i know the solution is to 'put my money where my mouth is', but other neccessities have taken precedence.this may not be the right place for this, but i felt i needed to say something. hang in there with the A6, alesis. Synthoid
I agree....Alesis is a bit flaky when it comes to their marketing. Sam Ash has told me twice that "the Andromeda was discontinued," but that was total crap. I emailed Alesis and they assured me they were still making the unit. Then, Alesis provided me with a link to a website that would list dealers in my area that carried it. Hmmmm.....well, the Sam Ash store that told me the Andromeda was discontinued was on that list, plus a store about a half-hour away from my house that no longer sells keyboards. Go figure.... Still, it's a one-of-a-kind synth, and I would hate to see it pass into oblivion. When an eel hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's a Moray. coyote
When a store claims something is discontinued, it could mean the manufacturer has ceased production. OR it could just as easily mean the store itself has discontinued carrying the unit. As always, it pays to check multiple sources. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. mildbill
i never thought it was discontinued;i was just trying to express my hope that alesis will 'continue' to manufacture, promote, and develop the A6.give it a fair chance (by this i mean more than a few years). synthetic
My guess is they they sell x a month, they have y in the warehouse, and when they're gone, they're gone. They seem to be returning to their roots of guitar boxes, and their latest model is a cheap little modeling keyboard. As much as I wish they'd build a rack Andromeda and an 8-voice affordable model, I don't think that's going to happen. I do wish they'd license the technology, though. Those ASICs could be the next Curtis chips, fueling a number of cool analog products. Imagine a digilog keyboard with digital modeling oscillators, knobs like a Prophet 5 and a VS joystick, using the Alesis filter ASIC and selling for cheap. Ahhh, if I ran the synth industry... If you want one, I would grab it soon. Don't expect them to be around forever.
Andre Lower
Hey, hey Alesis, hang in there! I am saving to buy me an A6, perhaps by the end of this year. Please do not let me down. By the way, I realize a lot of people talk about the A6 without actually owing one. Is that really because of the hefty price tag or am I missing something else? "I'm ready to sing to the world. Tom Fiala
The A6 will be a "classic", no doubt about it. Now, if I could only get wooden end pieces for mine......! Seriously: get 'em while they are still around. Besides the alesis site, where's a good place to get some sound banks for it ? Tom F. "It is what it is." The prospective owners here are interested in hearing whatever you have to say . Oh, by the way, did you buy a hard case for it? Could you find one that would accomodate it or did you have to order a custom one? Do you think wheels are required for the case or simple muscle power is enough? "I'm ready to sing to the world. mildbill
wow - july 30, 2004 is the original post. i finally got an A6! ok, so i'm a little late to the party, but better late than never, right? anyways, i'm still buzzed about it. and thanks alesis for continuing to make these.i haven't played around with it enough yet to discover its faults, but i understand there are some.here's to hoping that alesis can do some maintanence updates for the A6 and their other boards after the fusion has gained a better foothold. Analogaddict
Congrats and welcome to the club! There's a lot of opinions on the Andy, I for one like it - a lot! A software update from Alesis would be nice, it would be reassuring to see that they do not simply stop working on a product that could use some upgrades.. The Real MC
I know a member of the A6 development team who is still at Alesis. I spoke with him a month ago. The A6 is still in production and is a steady seller. Frankly that's not too shabby for a keyboard that's been in production since 2001.
