Does that make sense? If Ashley's computer gets hacked or she's deluged with spam, Myles, this website, and anyone else who copied her IP into their post could be held at fault. BTW, everyone here's IP is logged when they sign on to this site. That log is available to moderators and administrators so there's no need to run a trace to get that information.

Vell, I haff to zay... Oops, wait a minute, I'm logged in as Tedster... This "Ashley Judd" situation was quite a bit different from Bralalaloogie. The Ashley thing, for the most part, was harmless fun. Bralelilolu was just plain weird and hostile...weird had nothing to do with his homosexuality, that's his business. Weird in the way he attacked everyone. I think that Myles' reason for posting it (or Morinix) was everyone's kinda gunshy over the Bralala thing. I don't believe any harm was meant. It would be cool for the moderators to delete the posts that had those IP addresses on 'em...then, let's go have a beer. My buddy Arnold is buying.

Isn't DM a man? There is a picture of a man on his website. The Devil girls made me happy, the male face behind it made me sad, that it might not be a man would be too much. I thought that all of the long time people around here had secret identities. So that they could sneak in their more off the wall comments with out having to wade through waters afterwards. Who cares? John Brown

You know, I for one don't have a problem with Ashley, or Salma, or Aaanold, or the Taliban or whoever, as long as they are entertaining and have something to say. If there was ANYONE that was offended by any of this tongue and cheek ID highjacking, please tell us. It just seems silly.
I really don't know what to put here.

Maybe there was a glimmer of hope that she was the real deal...NOT! 2. It's not cool. That person should have prefaced, somewhere that they were having fun. I work with people that have this same problem. It often starts innocently enough. All it takes is for one nut that don't see the humor to go tell people that XYZ said so and so on a public forum...be yourselves.

While I have sympathy both for posters who want to have fun and for moderators who are trying to restore order, I'm concerned about the potential legal problems created by both parties. I posted my opinion here .

Enthusiasm powers the world.

I believer there was no harm meant, and I certainly didn't think Ashley Judd was really Ashley Judd. However, posting of IPs is not permitted, so posts referencing these have been either deleted or edited. As to the issue of slander, there needs to be a component of "malicious intent." I don't think that was present. However, the issue of "identity theft" is becoming a serious problem. While I don't consider what happened here to be an example of identity theft in the normal sense -- no one tried to order goods using Ashley Judd's credit card, for example -- it's skirting the boundaries of what's right and what's wrong to do on the web. If you want to adopt a fictitious persona, that's fine (a lot of industry heavies who post here do that to avoid recognition). But real people should be, by and large, left alone.

I don't quite understand why morinix is soooo upset about this. He seems like one of the crazies you'd specifically want to NOT get to know personally. Ashley/Charlize didn't seem to be doing anything terrible; merely using multiple handles in an anon environment is no crime. I'm getting visions of morinix in a past life... it's 1655 and he's wearing a pilgrim hat and while all the other men are out tilling the fields and hunting and building, morinix is the busybody who accuses the townsfolk of petty nonsense and supervises their punishment in the ducking stool LOL
Originally posted by TheWewus: Originally posted by morinix:
A fitting punishment IMO. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist.

He/She's a witch! BURN THE WITCH!!!! The other forums have a more serious atmosphere and I respect that, but a lot of those guys were having fun just like we were pretending to talk to movie stars then I think Ashley over-posted a bit and the tide turned. Notice how she/he tried to blame it on me, saying she was fulfilling my fantasies. That's right blame any off topic BS on the big ole Wewus. You know what I say to that-BURN THE WITCH!!!!

ok you found me out. I have been taken over by Dr Laura's soul. EVERY one knows that this Ashly stunt was worng. If if you stand on the side of the Ashly poster you stand on the side of wrong doers, prankksters.... "Ashley"went too far and got caught. It is very cut and dried at this point. I really laugh when a busted person starts screaming about how her/his rights were violated. What about the rights of the non-badguys? Now I will get Dr Laura's soul exorcised from my body. I will say no more and if you have a heard time understanding this then you flunk kindergarden. Robert Morin The guy with the puritan hat.

I believe I started posting as "Arnold" as comic relief to a troll type situation...ya know, "You all hatt bettah schtop fightink oah I vill blow you all OPP!!" type thing. I never thought, with my typed mock accent, that anyone would believe for a second that I was actually Arnold. And I don't think Ashley was DJDM...I think there was a separate D.M. person. DJDM (with the devil girl avatar) is someone else, I believe.

I can't imagine that anyone here really believed that the celebrity impersonators were the real deal, or that they in some way were trying to hijack their identity. There were two REAL problems here. 1. morinix*(-2 sp)* [not a moderator here] should have never posted anyones IP address under any circumstances. 2. Myles, who is a moderator should of never given out that info to morinix*(-2 sp)* in the first place. In the time I've spent over at the guitar forum, Myles has been a great source of information, and has proven to be an excellent mod IMO. He made a mistake, and I think we should move on the business at hand and call it a lesson learned. Either that, or burn him at the stake. I'm flexible
