nursers
Just had a thought - now that musicplayer.com has a virtual studio centre on Rocket Network, what is stopping us in future working on music together, presuming enough of us have Cubase or Logic (though there are free versions of both that can be used with Rocket anyway)? Just imagine the music that could be produced, if the stuff put up for this CD is any indication. Anyway - just a thought. P.S. This has been pasted across from another thread badly entitled "CD Compilation - another option", which you can access at http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/Forum18/HTML/001230.html ------------------ www.mp3.com/thirdstoreystory The Keyboard Chronicles Podcast Check out your fellow forumites in an Apple Music playlist Check out your fellow forumites in a Spotify playlist My Music: Stainless Fields
Tedster
Actually, it would probably be cool to get something going cross-boards...y'know, team up with someone from the drum forum, someone from the guitar forum, someone from the bass forum...etc... When are we getting a kazoo forum? "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

So where do we go from here? Well, my thought would be to start a thread with the title : "collaborations". You would post a link to a tune (a preliminary version) and ask what time of people you are looking to work with ( a guitar player, someone with good b-3 chops, a good piano player, etc). Interested people would check out your tune, and see if they think they would like to work with you in that style, and then contact you. If you don't have an idea, you should at least point to mp3s of your work so people have an idea. I feel adjectives never really describe it. You can then agree on distribution rights, etc. But in general people should agree that it's for fun, you should be responsible about completing your part but there's no strict deadline. We should do this because it's fun. I'm going in vacation for the next 2 weeks, but I'm planning in august to start looking more into this. The truth is, I'm kind of a rookie, so I don't quite want to jump to bandwagon without having a lot to show. But I'm definetly interested in working with a guitar player on some stuff. dansouth
I'll certainly consider using Rocket Network when I need to have someone add a part to one of my recordings. But I'm not big on collaboration, so I'm not going to jump in head first. I have projects to keep me busy for the next ten years, so I don't really need to add any more at this point. One issue to consider is contractual agreements. If you want to share ownership of the final project, you might want to decide in advance how it's going to be marketed, on who's CD it will appear, who decides whether it gets used in jingles or soundtracks, etc. For those who simply want to add a kazoo part to their latest masterpiece, there is a standard contract - available in M. William Krasilovsky's 'This Business Of Music' that will prevent the kazoo player from trying to collect half of your royalties later, when the song becomes a big hit. Obviously, most project are not going to make millions, but all the same, it behooves collaborators to avoid future legal hassles with a little careful planning at a projects outset. Really cool stuff. ------------------ www.mp3.com/thirdstoreystory The Keyboard Chronicles Podcast Check out your fellow forumites in an Apple Music playlist Check out your fellow forumites in a Spotify playlist My Music: Stainless Fields
