Dave Bryce
As many of you know, we are attempting to compile a CD's worth of material submitted by members of this forum. In order to do this, we have posted the entries for consideration and evaluation by all of the members of the forum, whether or not they have contributed a piece. The entries can be found at this web site: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/261/the_keyboard_corner.html Please go there, and evaluate the piece called "It's Over", submitted by Lincoln Ross. Please post your comments on that tune in this thread. This link will take you directly to this piece. If the artist of the piece would care to post any notes about the piece in this thread, they should feel free to do so. Thanks for listening! ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <==
dansouth
Should be in a multimedia dictionary under the word SMOOTH. Beautiful orchestration and changes - I've always been a big fan of the harmonic devices that Lincoln uses in his songs. And that songbird is something else! I'd like to know how her voice was recorded. It's nice to see someone writing in the 40's standards style. That was a rich chapter in American music, and it's gratifying to see it continued so beautifully.
Steve LeBlanc
Very nice, the string arrangement reminds me of old Norman Whitfield Motown stuff at times while maintaining a genuine 40s Jazz base. The song is what sticks out the most to me...very nice melody...good message...well sung. Great. http://www.youtube.com/notesleb
michael saulnier
Another fully professional composition, performance, recording and mastering. Lincoln drew me into a smoky lounge, out with my best girl, sipping some fine spirits and gazing dreamily into her eyes. My wife came into the room while I was listening to this and said, "what's that? It's so beautiful"... I can't add anything more than that. guitplayer I'm still "guitplayer"! Check out my music if you like... http://www.michaelsaulnier.com
Guest
This song would fit as a closing song to any maffioso film. But I think that tells more about my references than about the song. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Overall, a very good song and performance. ------------------ --Smedis,--
b_3guy
What a composition! Beautiful orchestration. I do agree, could be mafioso or even a James Bond film. Obviously Lincoln is equally at home with guitar as well as keyboard. The acoustic guitar is an interesting twist. You don't hear one in this style of music or with this amount of orchestration. I'm not sure what the intention was, but I would like to hear the vocal more out front. Maybe the MP3 conversion did that to you. What a great job!! What talent that is showing up!! Gus Lozada
At the very moment I knew this was a Lincoln Ross tune I expected what I listened... an excellent song. Since I really can not understand the lyrics at a first glance -unless I really pay attention to them- I focused in music and performance. I loved it. Great arrangements, performance, vocals... lrossmusic
Thanks all for your warm round of comments. Thanks also to Changamire (pronounced changa-me-ray) the vocalist, executive producer, and my old lady. As you can imagine with live strings and all, this was quite an expensive recording. We recorded at Sigma with Philly strings and guitar. The rhythm section traveled from DC. I wrote the song and the arrangement but did not actually play on the track. For a complete list of credits please visit http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/583/583622.html I certainly hope that I can again be so fortunate as to develop one of my demo's at such a great studio and with live musicians of this caliber. Lincoln PS Given the final price tag on this baby we really do need to check out the mafia, James Bond or somebody! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif This message has been edited by lrossmusic@hotmail.com on 07-05-2001 at 02:06 AM
Tusker
Better late than never. I finally got a chance to download and listen to the cd compilation tunes this weekend. It was pretty awe inspiring. I am still on a high about the great talent we have rubbing shoulders here. Huge songwriting skills here. The harmonies are lush. Reminds me of some hip cabaret music. Its neat to see rich music like this is still being written. Did I say I like the orchestration. Beautiful.
