Go Sixers!!!!!

Dave Bryce

Recommended Posts

The Sixers played badly last night, not at all what we're normally used to. They have to settle down and get back 2 basics if they're gonna win this. The free throw percentage alone killed them - well over the point spread.

The Lakers are the biggest cash cow in the history of the NBA, playing a must-win last night on home court, and they barely squeaked by. Not impressed. Not at all. They have at least twice as much depth as the Sixers, not that that's always gonna make a difference.

As for Iverson "unraveling," what planet are you from? Iverson was never "raveled" in the first place, and that's why we luv him here.

I find this whole debate tiresome. Not for lack of position, but because the whole pertains to who "you" or "i" wants to win, not necessarily who has the better shot based on facts.

So, to sum up, horseshit.

From my end of the court, you can't get much more well thought out and succinct than that when replying to your "assessment".

Apparently not THAT tiresome... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Not for lack of position, but because the whole pertains to who "you" or "i" wants to win, not necessarily who has the better shot based on facts.

If you ask me, a great deal of rooting for a sports team is in fact based on who "you" or "i" wants to win, not necessarily who has the better shot based on facts....

...besides, the "facts" haven't really meant a whole lot during this series so far, have they?

So, to sum up, horseshit.

From my end of the court, you can't get much more well thought out and succinct than that when replying to your "assessment".

I dunno - I'd say that your response this time was a bit more well thought out than your last one...certainly more clearly expressed... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Too bad it is coming up short.

P.S. The argument is VERY tiresome, when my "horseshit" answer was easily interpreted as a polar opposite position and response. The fact that I had to explain it to you was the tiresome part. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

What a poorly officiated game on both ends of the court.

Philly has to be very upset with this, two losses in a row.

It is gonna be hard for them knowing L.A. has the momentum right now.

Exciting game though for sure.

P.S. I thought the Philly fans were GONNA MAKE SOME NOISE!!! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Great, great game. Damn, that was exciting. Interesting as hell sitting in a bar full of screaming Laker fans... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/rolleyes.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

I agree with MusicMan - bad officiating on both ends.

Once Shaq and Fisher went out, the Sixers kinda needed to put it away - you don't get opportunities like that a lot...they'll need to come out blazing and have a dominant game on Wednesday to stay in it.

Also, LA played some seriously awesome D... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/eek.gif

Three out of three killer games...I'm lovin' this. This could be one of the best series that I've ever seen.

As far as I can see, there is only one factor that's keeping the Sixers from sweeping the Lakers, and that is a lack of poise in the closing minutes of the games. Their scoring percentage plummets in the final 3 minutes, and I attribute that to a comparitive lack of playoff experience. If the Sixers were to solve that, they would be sweeping the Lakers. The Lakers are doing what they've always done and are not hobbled by any key injuries, and they're squeaking by in the closing seconds. The Lakers have more depth, more experience, the best coach in the league, Shaq, the money and clout that comes from being a big market team, and Philly keeps knocking on their door right down to the wire. But we've got to put the ball in the net in those closing minutes. That's the only thing that's missing.

It'll be interesting to see what happens next season. On the one hand, the Lakers will most likely lose Kobe Bryant, whose contract is up. He will want more money, and he will want to get out from under Shaq's shadow and be the star, and LA won't be able to give him both and stay under the salary cap. New York will dump...who's that guy who choked PJ Carlissimo? They'll dump him 'cause he's fading, and a couple of other guys and make room under the salary cap to sign Bryant. Don't be surprised if you see Rick Fox make a move for bigger $$$ as well. Next year's Lakers may not be the powerhouse that this year's and last year's Lakers have been.

On the other hand, Coach Brown may not return with the Sixers next year, so team president Pat Croce will have that to contend with. If you've ever met Pat (I have), you wouldn't worry, but it's still a factor. But, the Sixers have an opportunity to enhance their lineup in the draft. No one will be looking to leave the Sixers, and a lot of good players from the draft and around the league will want to come on board this wonderful team in this fantastic town. Plus, they'll have the confidence that this spectacular Sixers season has given them. Next year's Sixers will be seasoned and ready to dominate.

You should attribute it to what it is, relentless Laker "D"!!!

More like sweeping up after the Lakers victory parade.

The Lakers have as many injuries as the Sixers, you'll just never hear them crying about it like the Sixers.

The only thing that's missing is any chance that the Sixers can win this series.

Not a chance.

The reason the Sixers aren't winning right now, IMO, is because Iverson isn't playing with the intensity that he did in game 1. His leadership by example is an intergral part of Sixer basketball, and if he doesn't fire his team up, not with his rhetoric and cliches, but with GAME, I can't see how the Sixers can win. He HAS to have 35+ points, regardless of the relentless L.A. defense, if they expect to win. When he steps up his game, there are very few that can compete against him; he is such a kick ass shooter.

As far as the Lakers next year, I can't see any of them bailing for more money if they win again this year. They are gonna wanna go for another. When the Bulls dynasty was building, you wouldn't have seen Pippen leaving cause his contract was up, or Harper leaving for more money.

I think if Philly can get healthy and add some meat to their bench, they will be a team to look for next season.

I couldn't have said it better. Spot on, sir.

Iverson needs to be putting the ball through the hoop. It would have certainly made a big difference in the last two games. He played great in the first game, but has had two mediocre games in a row. He's gotta step up if the Sixers expect to win.

It's that whole "ya can't win if ya don't score" thing...

Do you mean on those rare occasions when he actually shoots over 40 percent??? Iverson has incredible energy, but is NOT a kick ass shooter. And against a team like the Lakers, where you don't get all those second chance shots like you do in the east, 30-something percent shooting won't get it done. Philly, we hardly knew ye, but you picked the wrong decade to go to the finals.

Just because he takes and misses 20-30% more shots than most players doesn't mean he isn't a great shooter. Have you SEEN his buckets? Have you actually watched any Sixers games OTHER than the finals. That guy could make shots if the hoop was like the one's at the state fair, he's that good!

He ain't the League MVP for being a POOR shooter, thats for damn sure.

Some thoughts from a 25-year-plus Laker fan:

- Philly is doing much better than I'd given them credit for before the series started.

- Iverson, despite being a thug and a guy who typifies everything I don't like about pro basketball these days, plays his skinny ass off. If the Sixers had one more guy with his intensity (wake up, Motumbo!), the Lakers wouldn't be able to handle it.

- Lakers will win in six. Philly will probably take one game at home, and the Lakes will take the final win at home.

- Unlike the Sixers, the Lakers are a much more a deep team than the press gives them credit for. Though not every guy steps up for every game, you give me a bunch of guys like Kobe, Shaq, Fisher, Horry, Fox and Grant (not to mention Coach Jackson), and I'll give you a championship. Which is exactly what we'll have. Again.

Either way...great f_ing basketball. Fun stuff. All my fingernails are gone today.

Jeff, I thought Dikembe played rather well last night. He tries his damndest to be their second legitimate scoring option, what with McKie being out of his game right now. If Philly had one more legitimate scorer (What Kukoc was supposed to have been), that would help them an awful lot.

Ahh, so two swishes and eight bricks is great.

p.s. this ain't the state fair, it's the NBA finals

no, he's the league MVP 'cause they wouldn't give it to Shaq again.

No Shaq, no title for the Lakers, Philly doesn't win a title even with Iverson, so how valuable is that???

Philly got lucky in game one and caught the Lakers off guard, it won't happen again.

Dude,

The whole Shaq free throw comparison doesn't apply, so we'll just ignore that one.

The math remains, if you take 30% more shots than everyone else, you are gonna miss more than everyone else. He still makes good buckets. He has had iffy games here for the last two, so what, that doesn't NOT make him a good shooter in the general sense of the word, which, unless you were sleeping, is obviously what I meant.

100% agreed. They just don't have the depth behind The Answer to win championships. Motumbo is his usual self...dependable but entirely unexciting and seemingly detached from the game emotionally. McKie looked good in game 2, but was a whole lotta nothing last night.

I think they need one killer power forward...a James Worthy type...it would be all over.

Yes, m'brotha, I did.

You see, for those of us who simply can't watch baseball on TV, and find no interest in lacrosse, figure skating or other, uh, sports...basketball and hockey are about done for the year, which leaves us about three months of pure hell until the football season starts.

GO RAIDERS!!!

By the way, Dave...not that you'd know anything about this, but I was thinking about getting a suicide pool going for this season. Although I probably won't be picking the Eagles in week one like I did a couple years back, I have several pals who'd be interested in participating. Plus, one of them is an extreme Broncos fan who needs to be shut down hard.

Any thoughts on getting this going?

As long as I don't have to administrate it, I'm in!

Are you thinking of running one? I say DO IT!!!! All you need is commitments in the form of the initial deposit, and the email addresses of anyone who wants to play.

Did I mention that I am in? I missed it last year...

Why not?

It's a completely valid comparison.

If Iverson barely shoots 30-40 percent he hurts his team, period.

If Shaq shoots 40 percent from the line, he's hurting his team.

The botton line is : more missed shots equal more wasted posessions, which equaL more opportnities for your opponent.

The math remains, if you take 30% more shots than everyone else, you are gonna miss more than everyone else.

No, if you're a lame shooter shooting 30 percent, and you don't shoot a lot, you have common sense. Pass it to the guys who'll make a higher percentage of their shots. Help your team. Get some assists.

If you're a lame shooter shooting 30 percent, and you shoot more than anyone else on the court, you're a ball hog, and you're hurting your team and bringing down the overall team FG percentage.

Iverson's best game was a couple weeks ago when he had 17 assists and actually helped his team win.

He still makes good buckets.

He has had iffy games here for the last two, so what, that doesn't NOT make him a good shooter in the general sense of the word, which, unless you were sleeping, is obviously what I meant.

Based on his FG percentage, his entire season is "iffy".

All right. Dont get me started on those deserters, the Raiders! I cant get behind the Raiders or the Rams (my former favorite team) since they left us on the lurch, and at the same time too!

I never liked the Raiders. The whole time they were here, they threatened to go back to Oakland. Now that theyre there, they keep threatening to come back to L.A. At least the Rams stayed put in the L.A. area for almost fifty years!

Ever since our teams left, Ive been rooting for the Green Bay Packers. I have three good reasons: 1) I first caught Packer fever when I lived in Madison, Wisconsin for 2 1/2 years during the sixties, the Lombardi glory days, 2) They are one of the few franchises that date back to the NFLs inception, and last, but definitely not least, 3) They are owned by the city of Green Bay and will never, ever leave!

Enthusiasm powers the world.
