RABid
Something made me think of The Fixx and one of my favorite albums that I have not purchased on CD, Reach the Beach. So I loaded up Napster and downloaded Reach the Beach. That got me to thinking about essential New Wave music and what my collection might be missing. Yea, yea. Many may be thinking Why? Well, if you played synths in the early 80s then New Wave meant not having to stay in the background while the guitarist got all of the attention. So what are the essential New Wave CDs from the 80s? The releases that were more new wave than pop. Here are a few I can think of. The Fixx Reach the Beach The Cars - The Cars, Panorama Talking Heads More Songs about Buildings and Food, Remain in Light Devo Freedom of Choice So what am I missing? Mudcat
I don't know if these all qualify as New Wave, but they are definitely some of my favorite synth based albums from the early eighties. Reflex - Politics of Dancing Industry - State of the Nation (This one had some nice guitar work on it too). Tears for Fears - The Hurting OMD - Architecture & Morality Producers - The Producers and You Make the Heat (Ya gotta love Wayne Famous on keys! ) Mudcat's music on Soundclick "Work hard. Rock hard. I was never really a fan, but I am now. Not of their 1980's music, but have any of you heard their new album, Everyone Loves A Happy Ending? Kinda rips off The Beatles, Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits and a little Pink Floyd. It's a fun album to listen to. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. It's a fun album to listen to. That would be me, and yes I am enjoying the new TFF album. Each of their albums is quite different musically from all of the others. This one does seem a bit like a follow-up to Sowing the Seeds of Love though. Here's another esential New Wave album, although it's definitely not a synth record: New Clear Days by the Vapors. Everyone remembers "Turning Japanese" but the whole album is great. Mudcat's music on Soundclick "Work hard. Rock hard. Eat hard. Sleep hard. Grow big. Oh... how's the wrist?? Virtually pain-free and I've got about 60-70% of my range of motion. I've got 3 or 4 more weeks of physical therapy. I'm thinking real guitar playing will start again in another week or two. Right now I can only make open position chords with a noticeable amount of pain. Thanks for asking. theblue1
Japan - Adolescent Sex and Obscure Alternatives, to be sure! And better get the Stranglers' Rattus Norvegicus in there, too. [Looking up, I think I missed the "80's" in the thread title. But when I look at the albums in Rabid's first post, I notice most of them are 70's records, too, if you're one of us mathematical compulsives who think the first year in a decade or millenium, for that matter, ends in one and not in zero. ] bookmark these: news.google.com | m-w dictionary | wikipedia encyclopedia | Columbia Encyclopedia TK Major / one blue nine | myspace.com/onebluenine

Mudcat
OK - Since this has diverged from the original synth-new wave concept and we are getting into some more obscure new wave stuff (and also since the 80's really started in 1977 when Elvis Costello appeared on Saturday Night Live for the first time ) Here are two of my more obscure new wave favorites (I know the song titles but not the name of each album): Bram Tchaikovsky - "The Girl Of My Dreams" (1979?) Red Rockers - "China" (1983?) Mudcat's music on Soundclick "Work hard. Rock hard. Eat hard. Sleep hard. Grow big.
