NAMM 2023 is in April, right?

I thought it was always in January. What is going on?? Why the change?? :idk:

Covid changed a lot of things including NAMM.   Basic January is cold and lots of colds, flu, and people gathering infecting each other so they moved to a warmer time of year.

Not exactly the way I understand the events.

For NAMM 2022 to have happened in January, they’d have had to green light it around the middle of 2021 when COVID was experiencing a peak.

When they finally felt good about green lighting it, June 2022 was the earliest they could get the space/have enough time to coordinate the show.

Re: this year -  decided that doing it in January 2023 would be too soon after having just done it in June, so they chose April because it was somewhat close to halfway between June 2022 and January 2024.  Again, I believe Anaheim Convention Center availability played a role.

They hope to be back on track January 2024, with Summer NAMM happening in July 2024.

I haven't been to a NAMM since 2019. I was on my way in 2020, just before COVID kicked in, and had bad luck two days in a row with delayed/canceled flights that made me miss it that year. I'm looking forward to getting back to it this year.

I had but one opportunity to go to NAMM back in 2016 but that year Aspen Pittman shared space with Guido & Andrea from GSI, with their new Mojo61 in tow. I was staying in Malibu so didn’t have a chance to get to the lounge but I did meet a few forumites. Tripping from Canada on my own dime is darned expensive, but I’d love to go back in ‘24 if anyone can get me in.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hoping that somebody comes out with a weighted 73 key with built-in speakers at this NAMM.  If not, I am going with the 121.   Someone suggested a Casiotone.  I purchased a CT-S1.   What a fun inexpensive keyboard!   Someone said everyone should have a Casiotone.  I will say plus a 73 weighted key.

Nord's big news for NAMM has already dropped and Casio PX-S7000  a few months ago so any other new offerings from companies so NAMM will be just a dog and pony show from those companies.     Any other rumours than Montage upgrade/update???

Let’s just start by agreeing there won’t be a new Kronos/OASYS from Korg.

I don't expect any new workstation from Korg as I think Nautilus is selling pretty well right now.  When it slows down, you'll see some limited edition new colors starting to come out.  In general, I find when Korg has a product selling well they tend to keep it on the market for a long time and don't really change anything.

I wish that there would be more than new colors if a new Nautilus were on the way someday. More like a 64-bit OS and the option to install more RAM and larger SSD drives.

You may actually see something new from Korg in the workstation category at NAMM.

I was just asked by a dealer I work with a lot if I was interested in picking up a new Nautilus at a steeply discounted price right now.

I won’t get into the person or the exact numbers but he did tell me there is a promotional price going into effect on the Nautilus with a much lower MAP price starting on March 15th and for NAMM (which is through April 15th) so it is just a possibility they may be clearing out inventory on the currently Nautilus and announcing a new product or version in mid April to update or replace.

If that’s true I’d keep an eye on the prices towards the middle of next week.

That makes more sense.  If it’s true, and Korg gives us an upgraded Nautilus with what it needs, it would be the most exciting musical instrument news of the year for me.

Who knows.  If, as apparently I’m seeing, Korg isn’t exhibiting anything at NAMM and only has a meeting room for sales meetings with distributors that doesn’t sound like a big splash of anything in that case.  I guess we will see!

Is NAMM allowing non members? I really would like to go...I have very good memories of meeting up with forum people...the whole Red Key Lounge scene

One early Sunday morning I was in the Rhodes booth... and who shows up and site next to me with his two female escorts and starts playing one of the Rhodes but STEVIE WONDER. You know what he played?....Superwoman... from his early 70's The Music of m My Mind album. Which was significant to me because that track featured Buzz Feiten who I gigged with in the late 80's.

Other memories ... hearing and getting to know Joey DeFrancesco and having him invite me to dinner at Steamers, where we discussed distribution of the Numa 1 organ. I was able later to get some of these units out to various players in the Pacific Northwest region.

I heard something about purchasing tickets if you are a non member and I seem to recall that they were allowing non members in on Sunday

I wouldn't hold my breath for anything new from Korg.  I pray I'm wrong because the Nautilus is a non-starter for me.  I have a feeling this year's NAMM is going to just be ho-hum keyboard-wise.  Korg is forcing me to take a hard look at the new Nord Stage 4.

I totally understand where Nautilus is a non starter for many but if it’s getting a short term discount that is more in line with the MODX+ or a within a deviation of that I would probably pick up a 61 for my use.

I just sold my Komplete Kontrol S61mk2 controller because I was only really using it to browse and I can use a Nautilus for my 80’s new wave band.  Maybe just find a cheap Maschine box used with no software to use as my NKS browser.

Despite the lack of controls, aftertouch and KARMA, I personally just like the Korg sounds.

Anyone else checking online prices first thing tomorrow?

Well your information panned out.  The prices on Sweetwater have dropped several hundred dollars.  But Sweetwater says these prices are good through the end of June, not just until after NAMM.  So maybe Korg does have something that they will announce this summer.
