Late 80's = Matrix 6 - first, longest owned, most explored, and most fun. Now - Kurzweil PC4-7. I've forgotten most of what was between those.

I didn't want to be the first to say it, but I agree.

I think they kind of painted themselves into a corner for naming. Different keyboard and case from the PC4 (I think), and missing stuff from the K2700, so to call it either one of those would have people complaining. They should have made a PC461 and a K2761.

Summit has digital oscillators/analog filters. so it's more of a hybrid than an analog in my book.

Pretty much agree about the lines, except my version would be: SP - Stage Piano for pros PC - Performance Controller with VAST/FM/KVA/KB3/sequencer K - adds sampling/Live Mode, audio interface/audio recording and pads I'd also like to see them do a straight-up midi controller (no sounds) with the controls of the PC4 and pads. Also probably a good idea to have one entry level board with speakers to draw people in.

I was surprised you attempted it. Too much competition, too many people on too many sites watching like hawks for sales, and too much busy work trying to keep up with it. Essentially a thankless task, but a valiant effort nonetheless.

If they release ESP generally, they'll have to support it down the road. Steinberg has been supporting Cubase for about 35 years, and the first version of Halion was out in 2001 and still going strong. Halion has some features missing from ESP, which are important enough to me to not even seriously consider ESP unless it was very cheap. I've sold all my Yamaha keyboard related stuff because it no longer fits my requirements. Also, I've been waiting for about 10 years for Yamaha to make a pc editor for my DTX-M12. Yamaha is barely on my radar these days, except for their acoustic drum related stuff.

I had a PC361 and really liked the keys, especially the after touch. Don't know what it was, but I'd also like to see them use it in the K2061.

The wheels on the K2061 are on the left side of the keys which will add to the length. Won't know how much until we see the specs though.

The new ones are K2061 and K2088.

Looks like the K2088 lost the pads and audio interface too. The PC4 got 88 and 76 keys, the K20xx gets 88 and 61, and the K2700 only gets 88 so far.

Seems a strange, but maybe understandable move. Too late for me - I bought two PC4-7's in the last year, but I was one of those asking for a 61 key version. I was more expecting them to do a PC461 and expand the K2700 line with a K2776 and K2761. I was not expecting a whole new line instead. Maybe the K2700 wasn't selling as well as expected. As long as they keep making keyboards though, Kurzweil is my first stop.

Most softsynths have a 'midi learn' button. Press that, then click on a control in the software (filter cutoff, for example), then move a controller (slider, knob, etc.) on your controller, then click midi learn again. Done. From your first post though, it sounds like you might want to consider getting another Montage and using that as a controller.

Kurzweil PC4 - 28.7 lbs., fully weighted, very competent controller. Added bonus - multiple engines can be used without a computer. You didn't specify a budget, but a lot of places have them on sale right now.

Quoting myself - I wanted a 14x6.5 Ludwig Black Beauty snare drum. No one had them on sale for BF, but I found a place that had 15% off on Sunday. I also had a hair over $100 in points from that place for the last Kurzweil PC4-7 I bought. That combination brought the price down to an acceptable level for me, so I went for it. Not a keyboard related purchase, I know, but I've been playing drums for over 60 years, and keyboards for about 35 years, so I guess it's OK to post about my latest drum adventure. My wallet's still smokin'. 🤣

I would think that getting better sound while using less resources would be raising the bar. But maybe that's just because I don't know anything about programming.

Nothing. There are currently two things I'd like to get, but one isn't out yet, and the other isn't on sale anywhere. I'm OK with letting my wallet cool down for a while though.

OK - that was a bit harsh. The VA and FM were decent. The physical modeling was so-so. But I didn't care for the main sample playback sounds. There were problems with the hard disc recorder and sequencer. The fx were kind of crappy, and I think the looks/design was horrid. I did get a decent price on it, and it came with a set of desktop monitors that I'm still using today, so it wasn't all bad. Honestly though, I didn't give it much thought when it was gone. Biggest problem IMO was that it was rushed out (unfinished) to compete with the Korg (Oasys?) that came out with similar features at a much higher price.
