skipclone 1 Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 I know this is semi OT but it hits kind of hard. He was such a master player and composer, back in my schoool days I was blown away by his explorations. I'm not going to get speechy, just have a listen to 'The In Crowd' and 'Sun Goddess' 1 Same old surprises, brand new cliches- Skipsounds on Soundclick: www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandid=602491

KuruPrionz Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Rest In Peace Ramsey Lewis, truly you were one of the greats. 1 It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.
Scott Fraser Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 I'm just remembering that at one time, mid 1960s, it was possible to hear Ramsey Lewis playing jazz on the same radio station that was playing the Beatles, Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Chuck Berry, Yardbirds, etc. Bigger ears prevailed back then and jazz was seen as popular music. Glad to have had my ears stretched by Mr. Lewis. 3 1 Scott Fraser
Ivan May Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 RIP Ramsey Lewis...one of the greatest jazz piano cats out there! Hope you're jammin with Chick Corea, Dave Brubeck, those guys!! Ramsey Lewis album "Sun Goddess" is also a must own for any fan of jazz funk. I loved that album a lot!! 2
Larryz Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Rest in Peace Ramsey Lewis... Your jazz tune also inspired a generation of soul and rock and roll teens and adults. Like the original version with lyrics by Dobie Gray. Thanks a million and you will be forever missed! 😎 Take care, Larryz
hurricane hugo Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Rest easy, Ramsey...if there's an afterlife, maybe you can get an accurate account of all the people who were conceived to your music. Gotta be several hundred thousand, at least. 1 http://blip.fm/invite/WorkRelease
skipclone 1 Posted September 15, 2022 Author Posted September 15, 2022 Hey all Thanks to Caevan for tech assistance. IMO this is the piece-'song' or 'tune' doesn't do it justice-that sent my brain into orbit.https://youtu.be/jKnKGJK6cxk Now that I think of it. 'Hot Dawgit' was fabulous too. 1 Same old surprises, brand new cliches- Skipsounds on Soundclick: www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandid=602491
