Custom Gig Bags?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a contact for getting a custom gig bag made? A couple of the places I knew of seem to have gone out of business in the last few years.

I do know of Glenn Cronkite, who makes great stuff, but a nylon bag is running almost $700 for my Kurzweil from them. I don't mind spending decent money, but that is bit above my pain point. Thought the group might have others?

Thanks in advance....

I got a custom Mooradion soft case made for my Forte several years ago & it is beautiful. Unfortunately, I believe the company is no longer in business.

Yes, I knew of Mooradion, and they were one of the ones I was thinking of that's no longer in business.

I've had excellent experiences with custom orders over many years, & reasonable pricing too.

Thanks for the link to their site.

Interesting history to the company and the products look great -- neat to be able to select features needed -- and I'll be saving that site info for sure.

There are several thriving custom gig bag makers in the Philippines. Unfortunately, they don't ship overseas, they only deliver locally; so you'd have to organize something through friends to get it shipped to the U.S. I have several business interests there, so I was able to get one made for the Casio CT-S1 during my last visit. Prices were approx. US$60-100 per custom bag. The outfit I used also sold "beer-proof" keyboard/amp covers for around US$10.

This is the company I used.

Those look quite nice. Ironically one of the bags I need is for my Casio CT-S1 as well.

Yes, Casio's travel-friendly keyboards, are just asking for budget gig bags; that don't exceed the cost of the instrument. The CT-S1 bag Casio currently offers is nice, but it's hard to find in stock - and it won't protect the keyboard if you have to check it. FWIW - the 3 times I've flown with the custom bag, the airlines preferred I hand carried it vs. check it in. Though I'd feel comfortable checking that bag as long as it's marked "Fragile".

Wow that's a sweet bag for $60. Probably can't get anything less than 2x the price for something like that in the US.

Better be careful!

"Fragile" (pronounced as "fra - geel - lay" in Italian) really means "THROW ME" in Airlinease! :o

  • 1 month later...

I wanted to follow up to my query from last month to report I ended up with a Studio Slips bag that I am very happy with.

I took all of the options available and it came out to $250, which is a very fair price in my book.

The quality is wonderful, and I plan to order one for my Nord E5D next, as my Nord bag is starting to come apart. Even with the double padding option, it's still slightly less than my Nord bag, but all in all it's perfect for my needs.

Big thanks to all who responded with great suggestions!

I have multiple Studio Slips covers for my amps. The only Keyboard cover I have is a padded clamshell for my Fender Rhodes Piano Bass. Studio Slips was the only maker that had it on their list of products and it fits perfectly. I also have a clamshell for a QSC K12.

Gibson G101, Fender Rhodes Piano Bass, Vox Continental, RMI Electra-Piano and Harpsichord 300A, Hammond M102A, Hohner Combo Pianet, OB8, Matrix 12, Jupiter 6, Prophet 5 rev. 2, Pro-One, CS70M, CP35, PX-5S, WK-3800, Stage 3 Compact
