I still have my XP-50 purchased from a dude on craigslist too long ago to figure out. It's standing in a hard case in my studio storage closet, blown electrolytic caps and batteries probably happily eating away at the circuit boards while they party like it's 1999. The last time I powered it up several years ago and the display still actually worked, I was pretty amazed at how good I thought some of the patches sounded, in an inspiring way. However...a truly, truly craptastic keybed...abysmal IMO, and to this day I have no idea why I actually bought the thing when I could have got a JV-1080 instead. Dumb dumb DUMB AND DUMBERER.

Reeze, may I ask what kind of stands you (and others?) are using for the TX308s? I have some heavy duty tripods for my now-vintage Made In USA EV 12's but they are huge and heavy and bulky. I'd like something light and compact.

Yep same here with my Kawai K5000S. My personal favorite keybed, but I don't get the yellowing. I'd love to pick the brain of a keyboard industry insider to know why this happens. Did Fatar buy the cut-rate government cheese vats of liquid plastic that year?

Growing up in the 80’s, so many of the radio hits of that time prominently featured a poly Oberheim. Many years later after I took up keyboard, I always lusted after one (any one of em) but was put off by the high price tag and the fear of obsolete chips and maintenance upkeep required. Fast forward to a couple of years ago, and the OB-X8 was announced, and it was dream come true. Yes it was $$$, but it’s the one analog poly I had always wanted. It is by far the most expensive instrument I own (number #2 isn’t even close), but for me was totally worth it. It sounds so good and brings a smile to my face every time I sit in front of it and play it. And doesn’t even need FX (IMO) to sound amazing.

Also, some artists need to just forego performing an instrument live and stick to what they are truly gifted at...

Ah ProfD but doesn't it really depend on the particular synthesizer? Exhibit A for me is Roland D-50. So many famous presets used on everything from pop/rock music to Star Trek TNG episodes, and they ain't exactly samples or saw waves. Maybe it is a special case because it's a special synthesizer...

OK, that explains it!! All I have been missing this whole time was just a real LESLIE!! Oh, and...talent. Seriously...sounded pretty damn good to me. Great demo.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, Tommy. I am curious how it got broken? I am a huge fan of USB-C. For me it's the first revision they finally got right. The bi-directional plugin is just SO nice. How many times in your life have you tried plugging in the OG USB-A rectangle end the wrong way around? Since the engineers decided not to design it in a keyed orientation. And the fact that I can plug my Macbook Pro into a large monitor with one single USB-C cord and have it display in huge resolution AND charge/power at the same time? Magical.

I wouldn't want to gig with my OB-X8 because it's big, and heavy. A light sub $1k controller like a Numa with an iPad running a copy of OB-Xd will get you 85% of the way there and 99% of the audience doesn't give a damn how about your fancy or authentic your $5k keyboard is.

So I was really trying to pique the interest of folks when I made this comment. My wife and I are of two different generations and two different ethnicities, and we both laughed the hardest at the part about Waylon (I did not know the story before watching this show.). And I'm a big Waylon fan.

I felt that Elton John-ish vibe as well, so it wasn't just you.

I really enjoyed his performance. There might be some folks on here who know him (I do not), but from what I've read, a real down to Earth dude who isn't full of himself. Great job Billy!!
