GovernorSilver
I was pointed to this from one of the Open Studio piano course - a beginner level one. Probably not too many here at my low level of skill on the keys, but in case there are any who would also like to help themselves to some tasty blues licks.... Bobadohshe
One of the first solos I have my students transcribe. There is a wealth of information here on so many levels. Swing, feel, blues vocabulary, bluesy bop and jazz vocabulary. All time great solo. BRW
Yep, a lot of jazz studies feature it as a "must" - but as in all solos, make sure you try to nail Wynton's time feel and swing along with it... The relatively "easy" notes are just the beginning...
16251
I don't teach, but if I did, aI would also have them learn the Miles solo. It is presented here in trumpet key but don't fret, learning it another key is another key... Morrissey
Can't say enough about Open Studio. I'm also a novice in jazz and am so impressed by their offerings. Thanks for sharing this, OP.
GovernorSilver
Miles is one of my favorite soloists, and I love stealing his lines, though I've done it more on guitar and violin/viola than keys. HIs lines are among the very first things I'd try on my Osmose when I finally get it.
Al Quinn
The Wynton Kelly solo is a great example of simple material presented in the most masterful way. The notes are not very difficult to play but how he plays them â wow! For me it"s the type of thing where I can play the exact same notes but it never sounds as good as him. He"s a master of articulation, swing, and time. There"s so much to be leaned from the nuances in his playing. Quote https://alquinn.com
