What is your favorite budget guitar?

I want to add to the already long list of options available, the Sterling by Music Man. I especially like the St Vincent signature model for $650. It comes with either 3 mini humbuckers or 2 humbuckers. The Albert Lee Signature is $400. Guitar Center has them used. I'm not sure about this, but I think if you buy a used one from GC you can return it to any GC

I"ve heard those are VERY comfy to play despite their angularity!

Those all look to be very cool guitars!

Here"s a couple sleepers:

Malden guitars went under some years ago, but they really did make some nice, inexpensive guitars. I have a Bad Karma, which was a matte-black 'METAL!' version of the Karma (see link) with higher output pickups. Honestly, the pickups were about the only thing not to love about my Bad Karma- they"re a bit muddy, unlike the Tesla pickups used in their even more metal Subhuman model, and which I put in a custom build from Rock Beach. The only other issue with the Karma family is the body. While it"s clearly LP-inspired, it"s ever so slightly flatter and broader than typical LPs & clones, meaning finding a HSC for one is a bit of a challenge.

Electra is another company that came and wentâ¦then came backâ¦and seemingly went again. They were one of the Japanese makers from the 70"s that were in Gibson"s crosshairs. Some big names (like Peter Frampton) preferred them, but they eventually fizzled out. But sone former Dean employees bought the name & IP and brought them back, manufacturing them in Korea (like everyone else). That lasted for a few years, at least: the most recent update I can find on them is from 2014. But if you can find one, give them a look. As mentioned, the vintage ones were actually pretty nice. I personally have one of the second company"s Omega Primes (their updated version of the LP-killer from the 70s) in maple*, and it"s one of my favorite LP style guitars. Only my Rick Vito signature from Reverend beats itâ¦but they"re very different guitars.

My personal favorite is still my MIK Epiphone DOT, made by Samick. One of the nicest-playing guitars I own, for any money, it's currently dedicated to my Ambient rig.

Now THAT'S no mean sign of excellence and approval!
