EscapeRocks
wow..... I love Joe, but this may be the most unimpressive thing of his I've heard. It sound like "hey, lets just play a bunch of random sounds." It reminded me of the "PHISH Shreds" video Quote David Gig Rig:Roland Fantom 08 | Roland Jupiter
KeyboardEric
I never understood waiting for half hour to pay 20 bucks for eggs, potatoes and coffee. Quote dreamcommander.bandcamp.com
drawback
On the other hand, JZ normally eats your lunch. This is a clear case of "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." marino
Well, what's the need to focus on one isolated lackluster performance, when there's plenty of great Zawinul concerts around... Joe liked to take risks, and sometimes things just don't work.
16251
Well, what's the need to focus on one isolated lackluster performance, when there's plenty of great Zawinul concerts around... Joe liked to take risks, and sometimes things just don't work. Didn't post as put-down to Z. Him playing Ellington solo made me think how it would be funny to see a solo performer at brunch playing standards surrounded by keyboards. Also his love for the M1. I wish he could of embraced a Midi acoustic piano but not sure if it was available at this time. David Emm
I never understood waiting for half hour to pay 20 bucks for eggs, potatoes and coffee. Its too precious for me, as well. I'll make my own. OTOH, Seattle has a lot of fine dining to offer, so you'll sometimes go for the purpose of a) stylin' b) to impress a Gurl c) to just plain eat something you are too lazy or clumsy to make at home or d) to fuel up before you visit the music store to buy just one stinking MIDI cable and play "Jump" or some Vidor pipe organ madness. Then the salesman makes The Face and chases you out. I've been on both sides of that scene, but still, people liked my Vidor impression. Tusker
Thanks for sharing this. Old digital doesn't age well and has underserved some iconic players. These sounds are as unintentionally funny today as Herbie's keytar sound with Chick on the Merv Griffin show. I remember a friend having an M1 and calling me over to hear it's amazing piano sound. GRollins
With the caveat that he was a better keyboard player than I will ever be, I have to say that I was somewhat underwhelmed by that particular piece. Was there some sort of backstory that was not obvious from that excerpt? Was he just improv/noodling while techs attended to something that had failed elsewhere on stage? Grey Quote I'm not interested in someone's ability to program. I'm interested in their ability to compose and play.
