desertbluesman
I went to a seminar on Hemp CBD oils (which are now fully legal in the USA) So I bought an $80+ little bottle of hemp oil (this one) www.hemplucid.com/collections/all/products/mct/?attribute_pa_strength=500mg from the lady who was teaching the seminar. I learned a bunch about CBD's from her and began taking 4 drops of the oil daily. I have to say that the use of CBD oil has sharpened my brain up a bunch, and it totally eliminated my finger bone joint problems from guitar practice, and mitigated the other arthritic joint problems to minor irritation instead of sharp pains. Of course I bought the next dose on line for about 20 bucks less as indicated on the link above. The bottle is only a small bottle but I have been taking 6 drops of it daily for about 2 months and I still have half a bottle of the first bottle left. I also learned that just because it is CBD it is not necessarily the best option, so going to the seminar I learned the difference in how the CBD was extracted from the hemp plant and the CO2 extraction is the best (she said) which the bottle above is done in that way. The one thing she taught me was that our bodies have natural cannabinoid receptors because we as humans have always ingested the hemp and marijuana plants as a matter of course. It has only been since the 1930's or so that it has been outlawed in the USA and other developed countries, and our bodies are starved for that kind of intake. At first for the first week or so, the CBD oil acted like a slight dose of speed until my body got used to it. So I do take my dose early but it no longer has that speedy effect on me. Winston Psmith
Had to chime in here . . . FWIW, I have major sleep disturbance. Even though my work is physically demanding, it's not enough to get me anywhere near what most people would consider a full night's sleep. I see 3 in the morning every day of my life; that was fine when I worked in nightclubs and got off work at 2 AM, back in the 80's. After years of trying every manner of prescription drug, over-the-counter sleep aid, and herbal teas that smelled and tasted like moldy socks (Valerian root, mostly), I signed up with my state's Medical Cannabis program. The initial application form isn't particularly intrusive, and neither are the medical requirements; it's more of an interview than an examination. In essence, if you've lived to be as old as most of us in here, you have enough aches & pains to qualify, probably more than enough. I have an oil pen, or vape pen, and a blend of Cannabis oil (with THC) intended to help with sleep. It's not like a sleeping pill, but when I wake up in the dead of night as if someone just set off an alarm in my brain, I can take a hit or two off of my pen, and feel the tension leaving my body. Sometimes, I even get back into a short period of real REM sleep, and when I get out of bed, I'm not hungover or "stoned", in any sense. For me, it's good medicine. jimmac
Glad you guys are getting help from the oil and vape. I never understand why some misguided people insist on trying to control other people so much with some of the laws/regulations that made getting and using drugs so hard. I quit smoking pot in the 80's when I volunteered for a long term prescription drug study at the Univ of Michigan. I occasionally hit a joint but support anyone who uses and feels it benifits them as long as they work and pay for their stuff. Jim
Larryz
CBD is legal in just about every State as it contains no THC. CBD is the medicinal part of the plant. I gave it a try as I have pain due to arthritis and back issues and people find all sorts of cures from using medical marijuana. If it works for you, then go for it! CBD did not work for me. I find Salonpas (Lidocaine) does a better job... Quote Take care, Larryz

Larryz
I ordered a copper weave glove sans fingers, that looks like it will let me play guitar with it on my fretting hand. A lot of carpal tunnel patients wear them. I can turn it inside out and use it on my picking hand too. It should support my wrists and if it works, I'll order a second one...my main pain is on the back of my hands and wrist areas. I'll report back in a couple of days and let people know if it works... Winston Psmith
Another thought, in terms of CBD products for aches & pains - there are some very good salves that are formulated much like Tiger Balm but with CBD & THC added. Not ingesting internally, just rubbing it on the sore spots. Sore joints and muscles seem to like it . . . Quote "Monsters are real, and Ghosts are real too. Sharkman
I've been reading about people using CBD oil, like DBM above, saying that they take X amount of drops per day. What nobody ever says is HOW do you take those drops. Do you mix it in something to drink? Do you put the drops under your tongue and let it absorb into the body that way? Do you mix it in food? Winston Psmith
Little bit of each and all, depending on the type of oil, or tincture. Some of the oils you put right under your tongue just as they are, and they come in little syringes (no needle point), so you can squeeze out a measured dose. The tinctures - usually alcohol-based - come in little bottles with medicine droppers, so you can put drops under your tongue, into food, or into your morning coffee. Let me be clear - I'm not advocating that you try any form of Cannabis, or anything else, in place of medicine that's working for you. If you have a doctor you trust, tell them you're curious about medical Cannabis, and ask if they think it would address anything you need, or conversely, if it would interfere with some other medicine, or course of treatment. If you do decide to start using any form of Cannabis product, medical or recreational, tell your doctor(s) and your dentist, so they know what's going on in your body. When I was about to have oral surgery, my dentist supported my taking Cannabis products to aid with pain relief, so long as I didn't smoke while my mouth was healing. I put 6 drops on my left palm and lick the palm (this is after my morning shower of course). They said to put the drops under my tongue but that takes a trip into the room with a mirror so I can see what I am doing. So I just started doing it that way. The residue in my palm will of course absorb readily. Larryz
I ordered a copper weave glove sans fingers, that looks like it will let me play guitar with it on my fretting hand. It should support my wrists and if it works, I'll order a second one...my main pain is on the back of my hands and wrist areas. I'll report back in a couple of days and let people know if it works... Good luck with that copper weave glove amigo. I meant to get back on the copper weave glove idea. The one I have works well but not for playing guitar. On the picking hand it works but gets in the way of palm muting and is not comfortable. On the fretting hand it works much better and could be used if needed but still gets in the way a little especially for open cord work. I find that wearing it after I'm through practicing is very helpful. The same is true when doing odd jobs around the house. While working on things like wrenching on my truck or gardening, etc. I do not wear it as I like keeping it clean and wear it after working. It is much like wearing a wet suit and will make your hand sweat a little after an hour or so. Just rinse with clean water and let it air dry. So, bottom line I recommend them for hand and wrist pain but not for playing guitar...if I buy another one, it will have more knuckle and finger coverage instead of being cut-away. Dannyalcatraz
Tangent: anyone using CBD oil or similar hemp based products should be aware that current field tests used by the police cannot distinguish between marijuana and hemp-product use. IOW, you could get a false positive, and thereby get snagged in the legal system. Some states are addressing this by simply issuing citations for low-level positive test results, but not all. Check with your local Smokeys if you want to stay out of the pokey. Quote Sturgeon's 2nd Law, a.k.a. Larryz
Thanks for the info Danny...I didn't know if CBD oil (containing no THC) would show up on a blood, breath or urine test. I know they are trying to perfect a THC roadside test in California using saliva. When they can detect the amount of THC, I'm sure it will clear the CBD users...designated drivers for those using marijuana is the best way to go. Just don't be smoking it in the car with he or she before heading home. That 2nd hand smoke will still get ya LOL! Quote Take care, Larryz
desertbluesman
Full Spectrum CBD oil from hemp does contain 3% or so of THC. However since CBD oil is legal in many states, I think it will be less of a problem. However you can buy CBD products with the THC removed, which is what the truck drivers use successfully. Larryz
The CBD oil I used, supposedly had 0% THC and only the medicinal CBD part of the plant in capsules. But that was the manufactures claim. My blood and urine lab tests were negative. I still worried about CBD oil causing one to flunk a roadside test as Danny indicated (and you may be right too on the 3% THC) DBM...I only tried the CBD for about 6 months to see if it would help with my back pain and my hand pain. While others say that it helps them, I found no benefit. But I have had the same issue with a prescription pain killers when I had surgery on my left hand and long ago back in '83 on a hernia operation. The drug(s) only worked a little for the 1st 3 days so and I quit taking them and tossed the left over pills. The Orthopedic doctor advised that pain killers do not always work on some people and I guess I'm one of them... Quote Take care, Larryz
desertbluesman
The 3% CBD, according to the lady whose class I went to, is neutralized by the overwhelming amount of the CBD to THC ratio of the hemp plant. I take CBD every day, and feel absolutely no psychedelic effects of the small amount of THC in hemp based CBD. I was one of those hippies at Woodstock, and I can assure you I am experienced, & I know what the effects of THC are. Larryz
I too was well versed in the effects back in the day even though I was not familiar with the term THC at the time...+1 you won't even know there is 3% or even less THC in CBD and there are no effects. Kind of like drinking non-alcohol beer (i.e. trace amounts). You will know when you hit [pun intended] that 97% portion LOL! Larryz
I gave up the real stuff many decades ago and was truly hoping the CBD oil when it came on the market without the THC would work for my medical condition/pain. Dannyalcatraz
I can"t find the reports from my local news sources, but here"s one from WA: False Positives for THC Note that they reported some tests delivering positive results for amounts under 0.3% THC. Others only detect whether the substance tested comes from the Cannabis plant genus, not whether THC is actually present. Quote Sturgeon's 2nd Law, a.k.a. Winston Psmith
Couple of points, in no particular order. I use a couple of different 1:1 CBD:THC rubs, and haven't noticed any effect other than localized pain relief. For a fair comparison, I know a couple of non-smokers who use the rubs, and also report getting pain relief, but no 'high' from having it on their skin. AFAIK, LSD is the only psychedelic that can be absorbed directly through the skin; don't ask. There is some debate as to whether or not higher levels of THC make for more effective pain relief? THC is fat-soluble, not water-soluble, which is why you can't just throw some flowers into boiling water and make tea. (You could, but you'd just have some funny-tasting tea, and a bunch of boiled weed, neither of which would be good for anything else.) This also means it stays in your body, hiding in fat cells, for weeks, if not somewhat longer. That hypothetical joint you might share with some friends at an outdoor concert on July 4th could still leave traces somewhere in your system until around Labor Day. Which leads me to . . . One of the many issues with state-sponsored Medical or Legal Cannabis programs is that any regular user is going to have a certain level of THC in their system at almost any time. No, this doesn't mean that everyone in Colorado, for example, is driving around stoned all the time, any more than that July 4th joint would have you buzzing by July 5th, but it does mean that if you drive into some other state, get pulled over and tested, you might have a problem. BTW, if you are worried about a bunch of stoners out on the highway with you, think about all the people currently taking legal mood elevators, tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs, even anti-psychotics, all driving to work with you in the morning. FWIW, the next county over from where I live has drive-through windows at Liquor stores. Just a thought . . . Sidebar: Has anyone else noticed that the ad above this screen is an ad for CBD products? Sharkman
I tried a couple of CBD products that were basically worthless. Then I found another CBD product made by a company called MedTerra. It is a small bottle of what they call CBD tincture. I use the 1,000 mg bottle, so once a day I squirt 33 mg of CBD under my tongue, using the eyedropper that comes with the bottle. It is not a miracle drug by any means, although a lot of my aches and pains have gone away. And at the tender young age of 61, I have a lot of aches and pains (and I have earned every one of them).
