OT: Our Toys from childhood. : - )

Recommended Posts

This thread is going to date most of us. :o So be it.

Let's post (pics of) our favorite toys from our childhoods. :)

Or toys we wish we had when we were young.

I'll start:

(No, that's not me. Similar-looking, though.)

I suspect I wasn't the only kid with one of these:

I thought Micronauts were cool.

I see someone already posted G.I. Joe. I had a couple Joes, but I broke them.

This is a pic of the last Joe I ever had. "The Atomic Man". I suspect he was influenced by the Six Million Dollar Man TV show. This was the only Joe I ever had that had "Kung-fu Grip"...

I love these nostalgia threads. I'll have to think of some other stuff I had as a kid.

Oooh wait! I almost forgot!

One more pic...

My first electric when I was eleven years old.

Ah, the memories...

I remember that the blade of this thing could shred a cigarette to bits.

Also, I knew TWO kids who were killed on Big Wheels as they flew out into traffic after using that handbrake. My dad put a huge goofy 1.5 meter flag on mine. A

ND he cut off that little spring that made the hellacious noise off the back wheel.

"For instance" is not proof.

This was by no means my favorite toy 'spy' gun (I had the official Man from U.N.C.L.E. pistol, a Walther P38, if I recall correctly, with detachable silencer, scope, bipod, and shoulder-stock.)

But I couldn't find a picture of that one.

This one I bought at Pic'n'Save (yes, they had them way back then) for 99 cents or something.

At the time it was a "spy pistol" -- but, as you can see from this photo, it was apparently "repurposed" as a laser pistol. (Or maybe my memories are all muddied. I forgot I had one until I saw the picture.)

Yeah, I remember the Green Machine. Those things were cool! There was only one kid who had one on our block.

He had brain tumor when he was young and wasn't expected to live very long. We always figured his parents bought him the Green Machine because he was going to die, and they were giving him anything he wanted -kids are so shallow-, we were just jealous.

the sad thing is that the tumor did leave him with some brain damage. But the good news was that he didn't die. He had to take special classes in school, but graduated, and has basically lead a fairly normal life.

But yeah, the Green Machine rocked.

You suspect right! I absolutely loved Micronauts!

These were great, too:

These are some of my favorites, but my all time favorites will always be the matching '63 split window, Corvettes my brother and I had. They were our first slot cars. :thu:

Mighty Mo! I had one of these. Spring loaded, would shoot black plastic balls 50 ft. or more with quite a bit of force. Could be fired manually or with a wired remote from 4 ft. away.

The summer after I got it for Christmas, they sent B52 bombers over Atlanta dropping pellets to kill Fire Ants. The bombers came over at tree top level. Of course I had to take The Mighty Mo out and shoot at the planes.

Mattel Vac-U-Form.

Ahh, the smell of burning plastic in the morning. Remember the feeling when you stuck your hand onto the hot plate? I'd always forget to unplug mine. It's amazing that I never burned the house down.

Neil:

I was a big Aurora/AFX fan! Probably had 30-40 cars and enough track to make a layout that covered half a basement. I remember having a book that showed track layouts based on famous road race courses (LeMans, Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen, etc.).

The most unique slot cars I had were AFX snowmobiles with riders. The set came with white tracks, with "esses" that were a frosted blue plastic to look like ice.

Speaking of GI Joe, did anyone else have the GI Joe Mercury space capsule that came with a 45rpm record narrated by John Glenn? That would be worth a few bucks today, if I only still had it.

Between Legos, Hot Wheels and Vertibirds, I was set for hours. My friends had GI Joes but I had this guy:
