Leslie 950

There is a very nice Leslie 950 on Reverb. This was the largest Leslie ever built and weighs around 300 lbs. These are extremely rare and were often cannibalized for parts so it is even more unusual to find a complete unit with black lights intact and preamp pedal. Of course this is reflected in the price. You could find a good used 122/147 Leslie for the shipping price alone.

I had one of those 950's back in the day....the group i was in had a 52 week contract ....but, when that ended - i had to move it. after which, i traded it for 2 925's...real horn drivers and easier to move...kinda of cool in the day and it was very loud...the crowds always committed on the lights and spinning wheels..

Techs I know said they are a big pain in the ass to work on and not practical. Todd and Wes might agree.

I've never seen one in the flesh, and if I brought one of those crazy things in the house Liz would have me committed. :D (I'm still amazed she let me keep that X-66!) I'd service one if someone dragged one in, but it would then have to vamoose!

I have to say the ad has really nice photos, I've never seen the inside of one. I'd suspect it'd be better for guitar than for organ...

I imagine Don saw what CBS had wrought and thought "what the hell are they smoking?" I'd be inclined to agree... ;)

Back in the 70's, where I live in MA was this band and they had one, I thought it was cool. Unfortunately, he also had synths. It probably was an Odyssey and the band was about getting all the parts from the album and they did Back in the USSR with the jet plane sound. At that time, that was a big thing. The organ, back on subject sounded (and looked,) great.

I suspect it had less to do with smoke and more to do with blotter paper.
