Leslie 145 Question

Outkaster

Recommended Posts

Todd -B3Nut, Hammonddave, WesG, TonySounds,RealMC I have a question for you. I picked this up in Buffalo in Sunday for a good price. I didn't realize it was this nice and it sounds great. My question was the serial number is on a regular label. I thought all Leslie's with plywood shelves had metal ID tags. I have had a lot of 145 Leslie's but all particle board shelves with label tags? I might be late 1960's? Sorry about the large pictures.

Very nice Leslie! Looks like a late 50's early 60's model... Look at the tubes. Chances are they are original with dates. You can never trust the back panel as it may have been changed.

'55 and '59 B3's; Leslies 147, 122, 21H; MODX 7+; NUMA Piano X 88; Motif XS7; Mellotrons M300 and M400’s; Wurlitzer 206; Gibson G101; Vox Continental; Mojo 61; Launchkey 88 Mk III; Korg Module; B3X; Model D6; Moog Model D

Hammonddave thanks looks like everything is original and the back was not changed. This was a piano teacher, young guy, who inherited it from his parents. I didn't take the M-100 but it sounded good. The guy threw in the cable also. In the pictures they look like marks but they are dust mites. I can't believe it is this nice because it looked different in the lighting in the guy's house.

I have a '68 147RV with ply shelves and that kind of label. The motors usually have a date code stamped on them...it'll look like 6841, which would be the 41st week of 1968. Usually at the end of a string of numbers.

You can tell by the tag that it was made no earlier than 1966 as CBS bought Leslie in 1965 and the labels were changed in 1966. The label tags were changed again in 1975. Around 1969-1970 an H was added preceding the serial number so you can be pretty sure yours was built between 1966 and 1970. If it is an earlier model it may have an alnico bass speaker rather than the later ceramic magnet speaker.

OK thanks that explains it. I will check it out once I get a chance and the weather warms up this weekend.

Yes this is probably the nicest I have had. I had a 1964 before which was great, it had the original shipping skid on it also. I sold it to Eastman Music School. I think this is my 6th or 7th one?
