Wow, I didn't now that! Peter King wasn't all that impressed with the Steelers picks, but I thought they picked the best available player when it was their turn to pick. We'll see.

Man, they don't waste any time, do they?

We live in an immediate gratification world, Geoff. People complain if they can't get an analysis 30 seconds after the event happens, or as soon as they refresh a browser, whatever's faster.

You know what I'd like to see? A draft analysis 10 or 20 years after the fact, once the players have shown their true potential in the NFL.

Best,

Geoff

They have that. It's called the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. ;)

Well, the Skins have managed to score a few big (tall) WRs.

However, that is one WR too many considering the liabilities we have at DE.

Oh well, hope the 7th round pick at that position pans out.

Then you absolutely need to check out the Wikipedia pages on earlier drafts. It's fascinating stuff. They highlight the guys that became Pro Bowlers or Hall of Famers, and often have some commentary as well. They've got every year back to 1936. Here are a few to get you started...

Okay, but it takes a little digging and a little thought to remember who the over-hyped players were that looked like sure bets but didn't pan out, or great draft choices like Brett Favre who wound up being unwisely traded to another team, or the eventual great players who were treated like leftovers on draft day.

That's the kind of analysis I'm talking about.

Today's A- grade may look like an F in a decade and a premature D may eventually wind up a B, after all is said and done. Give me the real grades. :thu:

Best,

Yeah, in the end no one really knows. If they did they'd be in Vegas without a day job.

I was watching Mel Kiper today ranting about how badass his predraft analysis was. I kept thinking about how much freaking hairspray he must use. Geez Mel, relax, it's a crapshoot.

All the pundits gave the Steelers, Pats and Raiders the highest grades in the AFC draft this year. Congrats, MikeT. :thu:

Yes they did, but I would add the Chiefs to that list as well.. Man did they have a great draft day!

I'm thrilled with the DSBC-NYG draft. It may be a "B" overall but I'd call it an "A" for a team picking last.

Immediate secondary help. A possible WR steal in the the third round, and a QB in Andre Woodson who used to be considered quite a pro prospect and lost a lot of stock, reportedly, after a hostile Mike Martz futzed with his throwing motion at the senior bowl.

I expect Reese to bolster the LB corps though other means.

Yeah Woodson is a steal, lots fo potential in him with the right coaching.

And you know who got a draft day steal, it's the Steelers getting Dennis Dixon at QB in the 5th round. Here's a kid who was the top Heisman candidate, and headed towards a national championship before his injury. He can run with almost Vince Young type ability, throws a great deep ball, and can catch passes too in case he doesn't work out as QB for some reason, or if they want him to be this era's version of Kordell(lets hope not).

As expected his draft stock plummeted because there was no real bowl game/combine workout/senior bowl to properly eval him. But I think he's got huge potential. Maybe in a couple years he can make it up to 2nd string if Charlie Batch moves on.

I think Woodson is a very overrated QB. He was exposed over the last part of the year, never recovered. There were also some issues with IQ scores not being too high. He also showed some weaknesses in reading defenses and make poor decisions when teams turned the heat up on him at the end of the year. Personally I see him as similar to McPherson from Syracuse a few years back. A good college player but skills that don't transfer over to the pro game.

I wouldn't say Woodson was exposed, so much as him just being..streaky. When he's was on he was on! When he was off, it looked like he a different QB. he had 40 TD's this past year...40!

I also wouldn't say he never recovered late in the year either, as he threw 6 TD's against Tenn in late Nov. *stats courtesy of Mel Kiper* They lost, but 6 TD's against a ranked SEC team??!! That game was a huge QB battle that got both he and Ainge into the NFL imho.

The very next week, Woodson put 4 TD's on FSU.

I agree with you guys about Dennis Dixon. He can continue to rehab his knee because we don't need him in the line-up just yet. The power that be were asked if the Steelers had designs on giving him some "Slash" duties like they gave Kordell, but they said NO. We'll see, things change as the numbers in the loss column start to mount.

Yeah Jeff, the way it looks now, I dunno how he gets outta that one..

Again, still giving him the benefit of the doubt, but of all people in the league, you don't think of Marvin Harrison involved with stuff like this. It's pretty shocking

Yeah, I'm really curious to find out what the full story is here. Marvin seems like such a quiet, reserved guy - I was almost as shocked to hear he owned a bar as I was to find out he was involved in an incident like this.
