DeCato
Hi, I would like to find some more music to my liking in a particular style but can't seem to find many. I am looking for some swinging funky jazz music I do like all sorts of jazz, but these kind of songs make me happy Something like Cold duck time from Eddie Harris for instance (Cold Duck Time on Youtube) Is there a specific name for this type of jazz? And can anyone recommend me some other songs/albums with this kind of music please DeCato
linwood
Love that clip, thanks. I've heard a lot of guys cover that since Eddie/Les recorded it. I always liked doing his tune 1974 Blues. I wonder if that ones been covered yet??
mate stubb
That is my favorite type of Jazz to play - I'm not schooled enough to play hard bop. Look into The Crusaders and Horace Silver for more of this type of music. Moe ---
ProfD
Check out late 60s/early 70s recordings of the following: The Blackbyrds Donald Byrd Ronnie Foster Herbie Hancock/Headhunters Freddie Hubbard Bernard "Pretty" Purdie Roy Ayers Bobbi Humphrey Herbie Mann Ben Sidran Dan Siegel Dr. Lonnie Smith Charles Earland Jack McDuff Reuben Wilson Les McCann Stanley Turrentine Lou Donaldson Gene Ammons Sonny Stitt Ramsey Lewis David "Fathead" Newman Charles Lloyd Hank Crawford Charles Earland Grant Green Gene Harris Richard "Groove" Holmes Junior Mance Jimmy McGriff Big John Patton Shirley Scott Jimmy Smith Bobby Timmons Ray Bryant Houston Person Grover Washington, Jr. Look for compilation CDs featuring these artists. This should be enough to get started in the right direction. Good luck. PD "The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return."--E.
