Like every year, in the first week of July in Pamplona (Spain) takes places La Feria de San Firmin, the most important event of the year, also described by Ernest Hemingway in his novel Fiesta. The most spectacular part of the Feria is the so called Encierro de toros, where the bulls which will take part to the afternoon corrida run through the streets of the city towards the Plaza de Toros, in the midst of a crowd of people, who apparently get a real kick out of it.

Unfortunately, in the third Encierro, that took place this morning (Sunday), two partecipants have been hurt, and one of them is in serious conditions at the local hospital.

Here are a few pictures of the 2006 Feria:

I've always thought this is crazy fun, but on second thought I always go "wow, this is stupid". Suicidal, maniacal, just plain stupid.

Never been to Northern Spain, went about 6 yrs ago backpacking to a few Eastern/Southern cities (Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Sevilla, etc). Had fun, took some awesome pics. I'd like to go next year to the San Fermín festival, though. Hahaha. I'll bring an iron chastity belt for the race, in case a bull tries to get my behind or my balls.

GREAT PHOTOS! Did you take those, Dreamer??

Hi Don,

no, I didn't take these photos; actually I have never been to Pamplona, but I guess that to have a good place to take pictures you have to make your plans well in advance, and maybe rent a place from one of the locals.

Also, are you planing on watching the match today?

Go Italy!!!

Is it illegal to try and ride one? I could see a crazy rodeo cowboy trying to jump on one - for a minute, if that.

Well, being half Spanish, it's crazy, but tradition. Actually, when it started it was just a few local people who were, mostly, careful about it. Now, most people (who get hurt) are drunk tourists.

Just wanted to point that out before those "insane spaniards" arguments start flying ;)

Suicidal tradition.

So, exactly one half of you is Spanish?

I know for a fact that there are spaniards who are not drunk and stupid, just like any other race.

In Florida, there are alot of caucasians who inbreed and attempt to turn AMC pacers into 4 wheel drive
