  1. I'd guess that it's still connected w/New Bay & all the mags they own, incl. GP... :idk
  2. It's a slight thing (& maybe I'm missing a better idea) but previously, after posting a comment, the software had a method of returning to the particular forum's thread list. Now I seem to have to either back up & refresh or truncate the URL &refresh... Am I missing something ?
  3. I'll hold my tongue on the new generation cats til I'm sure but of the old cats, there's only J Johnny & what's left of Betts (he's not in good shape).
  4. & THERE'S MORE ! "law me t'innerduce Dr John Winter !" [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJmSvG3O7tw
  5. As mentioned elsewhere my time has grown increasingly stragulated (so sue me, Fred ! ) so I', only now posting to this. I once acyually met & had a brief conversation w/ LR. Happened back at time of his general breakthrough to fame, c.1977. Cincinnati chain-club Bogart's. Sitting w/friends waiting for LR to hit the stage, I went back to the bar for refreshed refreshments. There's LR quaffing one before he walked through the crowd to the stage ! Not to bug him, I just said, "Hey, Nice button !" [He was wearing what looked to be an authentic Teddy Roosevelt campaign button] He nodded as he left. After his set, he was sitting in the small bar area & I asked for an autograph. He took a bar napkin & carefully drew the name Leon Redbone [took abt 3 mins] & gave it to me. Then he was deluged by others, to whom each he gave a completely diff drawing of his name ! Genius ! Not only did he grant a personal totem to each of his fans but he completely stonewalled any potential resale value of his autograph !
  6. Just heard abt this in, of all places, THE WEEK news mag. Quite saddened. [video:youtube] [video:youtube]
  7. V busy these days so I don't keep up the way I did & haven't read the prior posts but WHA HAPPENED AT H.CENTRAL ?! In any, y'know, case, GLAD TO FIND YOU BACK HERE !
  8. Just heard abt this in, of all places, THE WEEK news mag. Quite saddened. [video:youtube] [video:youtube]
  9. If we count this in trade terms, we're way ahead w/our Island Girl, Mr Winston Psmith & FC !
  10. I've been away a while but nothing to do w/the forum, just v busy. As per AString's suggestion above I'll hold my tongue re WTF other than to point out that the cat took every opportunity to get along w/others & trashed it, so he in effect fell on his own sword rather than play nice w/others. Maybe somebody will PM me w/details of how that all ended.... :idk ----------------------------------------- Now it'll just be up to Fred & I to needle one another over my diction & the relative value of modern jazz & other experimental forms ! In other threats to the forum, keep yer eyes & ears peeled for my not-to-far-off, not-so-capsule history of The King Of Rock & Roll !
  11. Haven't been here for a while & time is, as Booker T once said, tight so I only glossed the previous responses. Here are my relevant thoughts: 1 / Always honor commitments in business. To quote further from a pop music philosopher (Allan Toussaint) "you might meet 'em on the way back down". 2 / There is often, however, a way to arrange compromises or rescheduling, even near the last minute. Never fail to try that. 3 /This may be the most important: Bands seldom work well as democracies. In the same way that some will be more talented as players or composers than others, some will be better at handling aspects such as stagecraft, schedule details, legal & biz concepts, etc. Not all bands need follow the same template but there should be prior arrangements as to who is best at what. If need be those things should be set in writing. -------------------------------------- BTW, glad yer doing well, SG !
  12. An ironically contrary to that is that players who had little time to consider their parts, while sometimes contributing great music (as in the classic Brian Wilson work) sometimes might've made even better contributions had they time to consider their contribution before submission,as they do now. Is we moving N2 a better future or is we not ? -------------------- BTW, A Road has been a loser profitably from before WW2 except for the era of The Beas & G Martin.
  13. Per The Dyl, Yer Younger than that now..............
  14. Contact the "Real MC" by PM. But you knew that already, eh!
  15. The one in my family's closet. Turned out eventually to be a Harmony archtop. Next I wanted a Silvertone electric that vaguely resembled a Strat X LP electronics. By the time I actually had a consciousness of what went into gtrs I'd been playing for a few yrs & really, aft that, I took whatever I could afford for what they seemed to provide what I thought needed. Gtr's are tools. They only define yer potential if yer potential is defined by yer tools. I play music, not instruments.
  16. If you are actually paying attention to any aspect of what you do there is hardly anything hthat will not benefit yer progress. As for formulaic constructs for yer studies, that's really a waste of time. Learn what yer interested in at yer own pace is the best way to do it. Slightly similar is the Q of "what to study / when". Do what seems best to fit yer personal sched !!!!!!!!!!! While there are semantics, etc, in the study of music, it's an art not a science. If you only study what's formulaic you will likely only sound formulaic. [video:youtube] Relax. Listen to whatever sort of music interests you. Try to hear what's happening. Build on that as you learn the component parts. THERE IS NO END ANSWER !
  17. I've no way to directly know otherwise from what you say but what I read (the Wikipedia page) also suggests that the difficulty of handling the smaller parts (& perhaps other reasons) there are also sometimes quality control issues not discovered til consumers get units. Separately, I wonder why the ease of switching out the small boards might not be an advantage in making repairs......... :idk
  18. It's interesting that Frankie V Zappa, perhaps the most intellectual & rational of modern pop musicians (despite what Bobby Fripp might think) fits all the varied possibilities of pervert, prevert, protovert &, at times, pandered to the lowest common denomi-Nations & eschewed them as well. Just, Jah know, sayin'.
  19. Well overdubbing's been the norm for a while (decades) but I'd posit that sessions aren't not dead as much as reduced & even then more in PurePop than many styles...although it's been a while since I was an active player, as you are, & even I anticipate that my future work will entail more a more "Spotcheck Willie" approach, at least on my own next projects. There remains nothing quite like an ensemble actually at play however, both for the overall tone & the subtle rhythmic interplay.
  20. That's a new subject for me & my brief Wiki-read's not really informative...other than the idea that it may apply more to miniaturization. Any tips on knowing who uses it or, was I wonder, this is used more in smaller amps or peds ?
  21. I've found that smaller stores are often better (since they both need & tend to provide closer customer relations) but even larger stores might provide extended options for testing gear, even allowing at home testing. That & finding some reliable electronics techs are tools all players should develop.
  22. i suspect you may have...but are you sure yer looking at the full range of shops available to you or just those most well known ?
  23. Some interesting design elements (though not as distinctive tonally as portrayed) but to me the most impressive aspect of the orig vid was the bass-tinged "golf-announcer" vocal timbre. Now that's great engineering
