  1. Cool, it'll be good to have that cat onboard !
  2. I'm not up on CBD products but I will point out 1 thing regarding cannabis. Unlike many other drugs it has never been documented as lethal.
  3. That WPost story raised a few questions. Here are some other takes. < https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/music/a-jazz-legend-said-he-was-in-desperate-need-of-money-his-friends-had-questions/2019/07/10/440e76ec-99b6-11e9-830a-21b9b36b64ad_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.74112a1c5b0e > < https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/music/to-think-it-has-come-to-this-kenny-burrells-journey-from-jazz-legend-to-gofundme-appeal/2019/05/15/c57fb07e-7701-11e9-b7ae-390de4259661_story.html?utm_term=.f11837231d1a > < https://www.npr.org/2019/05/15/723183103/facing-homelessness-and-crushing-medical-debt-a-renowned-jazz-guitarist-reaches- > Seems legit.
  4. There's never an inappropriate time for that. [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3KuPX4nEgY ----------------------- HAL 9000: [video:youtube] .
  5. Haven't yet read this but thanx, WPS. Clearly there're deep probs when some one of that stature (& commercial recompense) still cannot afford adequate insurance----but y'know what ? ME NEITHER ! I will look into the link but I suggest something that goes beyond what we might consider relevant here. Recently, waiting in an ER, I overheard some facts from ETs. For women, even in the USA, the highest cause of death is bleeding out during childbirth...& the primary cause is complacency & inattention by hospital staff. If the point's not clear, that mean's they're aware of the problem but ignore the indicators when in actual action. There are many things we might consider wrong on the world but protecting life should not be a problem at this stage of human evolution.
  6. One of the most mesmerizing Hendrixian lead gtr tones ever & that yodelling lick is undeniably cool, too [video:youtube] But ya gotta chk this version out or at least the section 8:50~11:00 [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo_2-bLGY5k Too bad he & Leslie West never collaborated ! BTW & FWIW, John Kay was not just a vocalist but a guitarist as well. Dig what he & his latter-day cohort accomplish here Entire track's with yer time but dial up 3:40 & let it rip... ...& if you think they were just on autopilot, at 4:15~4:20 they prove they were playing attention the whole time. [video:youtube]
  7. There's more counterfeiting of all sorts of products these days than ever before, largely b/c of the relative ease of selling via the Net, esp Amazon. As to the content of the statement quoted at the musicradar site, it seemed a bit of backtracking, maybe from bad publicity. In cases where manufacturers make the exact same products, I wonder what their "collaboration" would entail.... The most interesting part was this: Says James JC Curleigh, President and CEO of Gibson, It is time to make the modern-day shift from confrontation towards collaboration, whilst still protecting our brands, and we are committed to making this happen starting now. Is the pres of Gibson English ?
  8. Through the recent reminder of him here, it has come to my attention that Leon Redbone ( Dickran Gobalian ) was born in Cyprus, although his 1st know perfs were in Toronto. I'll be back soon w/a bit abt Buffy St Marie.
  9. That's a good list, Delta, but here's a few more.... EVERYONE KNOWS ABT JONI M ( INSPIRATION TO BOTH HENDRIX & PRN ) Who here uses one of HOTTEST jazz bassists to play tribute to one of the COOLEST jazz badassists [video:youtube] Oh...& she plays gtr, too ! [[video:youtube] BUT FEW KNOW OF ELLEN McILWAINE [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIsiEOcaJgo video:youtube]] [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIsiEOcaJgo MASTER JAZZ SESSIONEER WHO USES A ...WHA ? YES A TELE ! [video:youtube] [video:youtube] ------------------------------------- And let's not forget our own Master Moderators A String & Blues Ape !
  10. That cat's truly one of the best playing today. I commend both yer taste & yer luck ! Some BG on CG [video:youtube] Happy 4th of YouKnowWhen ! [video:youtube] ------------------------------------------------------ BTW Make sure you catch some zzzzzzzz s before then, ya don't wanna be worn out & miss the show !
  11. I don't agree. However, there should be an indicator of some sort (flashing, number in red, etc.) when there are new messages. That's how it worked in the past & That's how it's worked as recently as last week at least on my screen :idk ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOLLOW UP : I just sent myself a PM as a test NO FLASHING RED ENVELOPE but last week that icon DID show up when someone sent me a MS Now I'm starting to subscribe to ...
  12. Late but worth mentioning... That envelope for new PMs should've been a flashing eye catcher.
  13. One of the most distinctive things abt Beck (the REAL Beck ) is his skill at pitch inflection, which he's able to do in every conceivable manner...string bends, vib bar, neck bends, above the nut & behind the bridge tweaks... He often uses these in a mixed method within a single tune jus, I suspect, to show off a bit. Some of those are not even possible on other gtrs.
  14. It's planet Earth. Everything here, while we accept it b/c we grew up, is weird
  15. So I looked at yer profile before I actually read the OP. For a moment I wondered if ancient sins were playing gtr & singing but that cleared up quickly Looking forward to the next post but besides yer gear, etc, What are yer musical interests ?
  16. We own 'em both, actually! We'll totally keep the forums here though. Correct. Future Music kept the Guitar Player, Bass Player and Keyboard brands and logos. We got Music Player Network brand, but had to come up with a new logo. No prob - the other one was...old. Not exactly. First of all, New Bay Media owns none of it. They sold everything to Future Music last year. Future Music gave us control of the Music Player Network brand...but we do not have to worry about the powers that be turning it off. In this instance, we are the powers that be. We have the keys and the controls. The inmates truly do control the asylum. Hope that clarifies. dB Uh, actually now I'm confused. Who is the "us" that now operates these forums...& what, if anything, else do "us" do ? I don't mean the individuals like DB or Anderton but the collective group. [video:youtube]
  17. There's some merit to that but when Gibson has tried to update it's gear there seemed to be little interest. Folks seemed to just want them to make their standard 1950s gtrs, not a gtr w/self-adjusting tuning or various digital age innovations. There's by no means anything wrong w/sticking to a great design but eventually all that gets overtaken by others making similar, less expensive items.
  18. I think, no matter which one prefers, that it's easier to make a general Strat sound like an LP than vice versa. Therein lies it's versatility.
  19. That may be true in general but in fact the design of most Gibson gtr heads is very trad &, I'd suspect, not protected as described. Again, the lapse of action (over what---1/2 C?) may affect decisions. ....but let's see.
  20. Seems like at least as good a thang as EC's charitable efforts in his chosen area. As for the "the value" of any object....that's always the use to which it's put [dig that Fred ! ] which, need it be said, includes the joy it brought to others. TBTold, I kinda hate folks that buy stuff to put on a shelf.
  21. I'm not an atty but I've paid attn to, as Joe Friday said, "The Facts....". The statement I made above is based on general interpretation of what seem to be the pertinent facts. 1 / General design (the shape of a common object) is not exclusive----& even were it, it's not a issue nor one of patent (as, e.g. software or wiring might be). 2 / Long term neglect of protections often negates their invocation at a later date. However, here, let's just see where it goes...............
  22. will access that soon but I think the most basic evidence is that after using Teles in the YBirds JB used LPs for a while & then for the past 3 decades has used Strats. That's not The Rule 4 Airbody BUT it makes a clear case for the versatility of each..
  23. Haven't looked into this case yet but I'd point out a couple things: 1 / Designs are not The general shape of an item (car, bottle, etc) may not fall into a protected class. 2 / Long waits before addressing intellectual property issues can subvert a claim.
