  1. Here in the UK we have the NHS, so if anything like that happens to me I don't have to worry about the cost. I can't imagine living in fear of illness due to the cost like you guys over there do
  2. Yes. Smoke (the album in my sig) is a 2017 re-record of some songs I wrote and recorded in the 80s No idea why I used a pic of a synth for the tracks, as they were all done using PreSonus Studio One 2
  3. The song's target audience isn't the general public. It's aimed at fans of The Beatles. And it's quite obviously a love letter from John to Paul If you're not a dyed-in-the-wool Beatles fan you just won't get it
  4. Ah. Two countries separated by a common language....
  5. Indeed. Having just listened to it, it's a fine album. Did I hear you sing 'Bloody weather'? That's a common phrase here in the UK! How on earth did you manage to play a soprano uke? Those things are so tiny. Fingering an E chord must be almost impossible!
  6. I think I might give that another listen, actually
  7. I bought an el-cheapo Aklot tenor a while ago and I'm really enjoying playing it. The fact that it's tuned a perfect fourth above a guitar took a bit of getting used to. I removed the saddle and sanded it down a few millimetres. It now plays like a dream. I have small hands, so the tenor size and four strings suit me well. Concert and soprano would be too small, and baritone is too similar to a guitar. Any other uke players/fans here?
  8. He's just a guy with an opinion. I don't give a shit what he thinks. I like what I like, regardless of what others think
  9. A cheap guitalele. It's being delivered tomorrow. I really hope it's not a pile of crap
  10. Yes! Although, I only read Ender's Game. It was so good that I didn't bother with the other books. The Belgariad and The Mallorean are excellent. You have good taste, sir
  11. Whereas I spend all day reading. Ergo, the last thing I want to do is post drivel on forums such as this. But sometimes I just can't help myself
  12. I have an album on Soundcloud. I recorded it in 2017 using only in-the-box sounds of PreSonus Studio One. Plus my vocals, of course I'm quite proud of it, even though hardly anyone has listened to it
  13. A little piano-based demo of mine that actually won a songwriting competition, believe it or not https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14412583
  14. One of my own, probably. I was never that interested in playing other people's stuff
  15. I suspect I'm probably the only person here who isn't that fussed about seeing bands/artists live. I've always been much more interested in what can be achieved in a recording studio. As well as the pure pleasure I get from listening to records, I also like to dissect what I'm hearing. A question I'm constantly asking myself is: 'How did they do that?' I find the recording process completely fascinating I've only been to a handful of gigs, and found myself wincing whenever I heard a bum note or out-of-tune singing
  16. The Industrial Revolution was the start of man's wholesale despoiling and destruction of the planet. And we seem to enjoy killing each other. Social media has given a platform and a following to people who hitherto would have been dismissed as lunatics. Humanity is beyond redemption. We deserve to become extinct. Let the earth be given back to the animals. After all, they were here long before we came along and f*cked everything up Just my opinion, obviously
  17. I'm the driver for a partially-sighted piano tuner and he's mentioned this scam to me several times The piano will be a pile of crap and not worth attempting to tune. The cost of having such a piano collected for scrapping is high Why not offer it to the public for free and let some sap come and collect it? The problem is passed on
  18. Yeah, you're right. It's a bit like brain surgery, I suppose. All you have to do is drill a hole in someone's head and poke around with a knitting needle. Simple
  19. Or have you played since childhood? I'm not in the first flush of youth (to put it mildly) and I made an attempt at teaching myself piano about a year ago. Sadly, it came to naught. I found it too difficult
