  1. Following on from a post I made (and which Craig replied to) in the 'Binge' thread, I'm wondering what your thoughts are about some of those talented kids who seem to abound on YouTube Some, it has to be said, are technically brilliant but look bored rigid. And one wonders whether the parents of these children forced their diminutive charges into learning an instrument for the express purpose of making said parents a few quid (or bucks, if you're American) via the internet This young girl looks as though she actually enjoys what she's doing. Oh, and she's a damn good drummer! The song she's playing along to is 'Burn' by Deep Purple. If you're interested, there's a reaction video on YouTube by none other than Ian Paice, the drummer with Deep Purple [video:youtube]
  2. I've been binge-watching a young female drummer on YouTube She's called Yoyoka She's not even reached her teens yet and she's an absolutely amazing exponent of the thumping of the tubs!
  3. Thank you, brotha...but it's probably more too much weed over the years than bars. dB
  4. Very nicely done Sublime production as always from Craig And you yourself, dB, apart from some seriously impressive chops, have a mellifluous speaking voice, tinged with just a hint of a mis-spent youth in smoky bars Well done both of you!
  5. How was being left-handed advantageous? With pianos geared towards right-handed players, I would have thought the opposite was true
  6. I'm thinking it's about time I learned to play piano Do you know of any books that might help me? I can't afford piano lessons with a tutor, so it has to be a book Thanks
  7. The gentleman I drive around for a living* told me a funny story He used to tune pianos in recording studios, and this one time in the late '70s he was working his magic in a recording studio in Wales. A woman was acting as his host and he found her quite attractive. He had no idea who she was He was chatting with her and they were having a laugh when a voice behind him said, 'Hey, are you chatting up my wife?' He turned round and beheld none other than Paul McCartney. He'd been chatting up Linda! Well, it made me laugh *He's a visually-impaired professional piano tuner
  8. Craig said: 'Sounds like the experience I had in Nashville. Maybe we should let whoever runs vaccination programs run the government :)' I couldn't agree with you more!!
  9. I had my first vaccination early this morning (next one's in May). My age-group isn't due to be vaccinated just yet, but since I now work in social care I was able to jump the queue, as it were I had it done at Bolton Wanderers' football stadium. It was very well-organised. There were plenty of stewards telling everyone what to do and where to go etc. It was impressive The vaccination was painless. I didn't feel a thing, actually. No side-effects as yet. My wife and I (and our dog) went for a 5-mile walk immediately afterwards Loving the new job, by the way. Driving a visually-impaired, professional piano tuner around is very enjoyable
  10. The exploration of our solar system is fascinating. It just is. Man is intelligent and inquisitive There's more than enough money in the world's coffers to venture into space and feed the poor. It's all about distribution
  11. I'm proud of this one The production is crap (it was ever thus with my songs) but I like the vibe and the 'message'. And I like the words. Usually I just write down the first thing that pops into my head, but with this I took my time It's about the heinous crime of child abuse, particularly as perpetrated by Catholic priests and school teachers Holy Mother! See that guy with a crazy smile and a photograph of Jesus? Internet connection is complete Locks the door with a shaky hand in mad anticipation Licks his lips and then resumes his seat Images of innocence, uncaring of the consequence, salivating as his fingers dance Crucifix and rosary forgotten momentarily. His heaven is a garden where the children play Holy Mother! See that guy with a suit and tie, putting books upon a table? Summer holiday is now complete Rings the bell with a sweaty hand and waits for inspiration So much more than history to teach You boy with the golden hair, you need extra-curricular Stay behind when everyone"s gone home Let me teach you what I know, who is friend and who is foe I can make it easy or so hard for you Holy Mother! Institution or individual, the song and dance are everlasting Throw your hat into the ring and throw your conscience on the fire Turn your heart to stone and turn yourself toward your nightly horror Let the guilt be fleeting and the pain will be eclipsed by pleasure Night-time has awakened you, you know what you have to do Turn toward the mesmerising screen Morbid curiosity has got you where you want to be Now you pay the price and so do they for you Holy Mother!
  12. A Merry Christmas to you, too! There is some talent here on SSS, and no mistake
  13. That was excellent. You both did a great job. JP has an awesome voice and you played a sublime backing role. Loved it!
  14. But on a serious note... I always thought the original Let It Be film was quite depressing, but that little snippet on YouTube seems to prove that the sessions were actually good fun The guys were obviously good friends, and that comes across very clearly. I don't think a group of guys can go through what The Beatles went through without extremely firm bonds being formed I'm not a great watcher of films (I'm easily bored) but I reckon I'll be watching this when it comes out Come on, come on!
  15. I look forward to the sans Yoko edit Edit: I just typed 'Yoko Ono' into Google Translate. The result was 'Horizontal'. Looks like the words to the song 'Julia' will have to be altered...
