Jazz Fusion. Help me make some connections?
jejefunkyman replied to Tusker's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Mister Magic is definitely Jazz/Funk for me, as all the Herbie stuff from this era, and has nothing to do with Smooth Jazz, a type of music I would rather associate with the 80's sound. And I was born in 75, so I only got into what is for me the Jazz/Funk stuff (mostly from the 70's) in my late teenage years, in the beginning of the 90's. -
Have we finally reached "Good enough" in ROMplers?
jejefunkyman replied to RABid's topic in The Keyboard Corner
I don't have a Kronos, nor a Nautilus, but from the demos I've heard, it seems to me that they are more realistic. But here also it's a very subjective thing. Anyway, I would have to spend time playing both to make a final conclusion. ๐ -
That's nice ๐ I didn't know there was a Vox Continental FB group. I've just applied to it ๐

Have we finally reached "Good enough" in ROMplers?
jejefunkyman replied to RABid's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Yes I also thought about this as the solution to all my problems. But buying a real Rhodes at this point in time is totally out of question for me ๐ Beside, Iโm afraid that if I have only one real Rhodes, I will want one with another tone ๐ฑ Oh there I go again ๐คช And when I had the SV1, I didnโt have that problem. This started only with the SV2 ๐ No the real problem is that Rhodes tones are so versatile ๐ฑ Now Iโm even thinking about buying a Nautilus 61, just to get the Purgatory Creek EPs ๐คฆโโ๏ธOMG!! -

Very true ๐ฑ But I think the worst is when you record something with a tone you crafted at home, believing it would fit nicely, while listening to it later, you realize itโs not exactly what you thought ๐คช And you donโt have the possibility to change it ๐ Then you hope that the sound engineer will mess it up, so that nobody hears it. Ok Iโm exaggerating a bit there ๐ -

This is exactly the situation I'm in with the SV2. Before when I had the SV1, it was very easy, there was only one EP and one AP presets I liked. So I didn't ask myself any question about which is the one to use. Now with the SV2, I'm going back and forth between different ones, having one opinion on one day and another on the next day. And this drives me a bit nuts!!!! I think it would be even worth if I had something like Keyscape under my hands... So I'm also wandering whether it's good to have a ROMpler with so much choice... But maybe it's just a stupid thought, and I'm not yet used to it lol. I'm also sharing one point in the thread, saying that nobody probably cares about this, but me. Even my bandmates are not able to tell me anything about the tones I'm using when I ask them about it. -
Level 42 appreciation and Gear Spotting fun
jejefunkyman replied to ABECK's topic in The Keyboard Corner
A 80s rig is definitely a no go for me ๐ But they were (or still are) very good musicians!! Thanks for the video ๐ I was never so much into this band, but the few that Iโve heard from them, I really enjoyed. -
Itโs already available since more than 2 years ๐ But yes, very practical for those who need it ๐

I like Korg Module. The Scarbee EP included in it as IAP is the best Rhodes emulation on iOS for me. I tried NSK1 and 2, didnโt like it. I tried VTines. Didnโt like it either. I tried the Colossus EPs. Didnโt like it. I like the Synthogy APs. Iโve tried Colossus but didnโt like it. I sometimes think about buying Ravenscroft, but never took the plunge. I donโt think thereโs a big difference with Synthogy anyway. I bought some of the KApro packs which are very good. I also find the Clavs and Wurli packs very good. I have to say that I never gigged with Module though. But yes, Iโm happy with Korg Module ๐

Mine came also with the VOX V861 expression/volume pedal. I can confirm it's very good ๐
-
The Korg people are really crazy ๐ Yes the one I bought came with a DS-1H pedal which is very good. I only use this one now when playing live ๐ It stays firm on the ground and doesnโt slide๐

Also in stock at Thomann Germany at 999 Euros. Itโs the price I paid for the 73 version in 2019, so price rised here as well. Still a good value for money IMO ๐ The 73 original looks completely discontinued. I wish for a firmware update for the original version, at least to have the possibility to store the EQ setting per scene. But I donโt wait too much for it, as I donโt wait anything anymore from Korg as far as board update is concerned ๐ A big disappointment for me but thatโs how it is ๐คทโโ๏ธ

So the recording session took place on the weekend. Was quite intensive as we recorded 11 tracks in one day on sunday, as saturday was dedicated to setup, soundcheck and rehearsal. But it worked in the end. Finally I didn't use the Mark I Stage piano, but only the SV2. The factory tone called "Mark II Stage" fit well to the type of music I was recording. This was my first real recording session with other musicians as a keyboard player, as I'm usually recording alone at home, and it's of course a completely different experience ๐ Especially as I was starting many of the tracks alone, it put quite some pressure on me which I'm not necessarily used to lol. Of course this slightly affected my playing ๐ฌ I have to say that I feel less pressure when playing live, even when I'm starting the tunes alone. Can't say why, but that's how it is.

Great pieces of music to play on a keyboard?

Ok thanks for the hint ๐ Iโll give it a try when Iโll have some time. -
Great pieces of music to play on a keyboard?
jejefunkyman replied to agent4125's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Nice thread idea ๐ Hopefully, I can also pick up some new interesting tunes to learn for my own entertainment ๐ Here are some tunes I like to play for myself: Bill Withers - Just The Two Of Us Pink Floyd - The Great Gig In The Sky Herbie Hancock - Dolphin Dance Duke Ellington - In A Sentimental Mood Thelonius Monk - Ruby My Dear Some other good Jazz standards: Black Orpheus, Summertime, Body And Soul, Stella By Starlight, The Shadow Of Your Smile, Here's That Rainy Day... I'd like to learn some beautiful classical music not so difficult to play, when I'm kind of depressed and want to ease my pain with music lol. -
With just one, itโs of course not the best, though not too bad. With 2 itโs already way better ๐

Congratulations and welcome to the VX50KB ownersโ club ๐

Ah these guys at Korg ๐ค Donโt know what they are doing all day long ๐ Maybe theyโre just having fun playing keyboard instead of thinking about which new features would make their customers happy ๐

I definitely see an expression pedal as being an essential part of organ playing ๐ Canโt see myself playing organ without one, as the dynamic range of Hammond organ is so big that I really need to be able to control the volume at anytime.
-
Ok thanks for the hints ๐ And yes the pedal which used to be delivered with the Vox (the DS1 H) is really nice. I can also confirm that the expression pedal which is (still) included with the Vox is really good!
-
Really crazy that they don't include the sustain pedal for a board which includes acoustic and electric pianos... And I neither get why they would decide not to sell a 61 key versios, which is also quite requested by the users. Strange product policy from Korg in this moment...๐ฌ The stand was separated already some time ago here in EU. When I bought mine in 2019, it was not included. And I was happy that it was like this, as I didn't really need it.

Sort of, but not completely, OT: "mount-friendly" iPad case
jejefunkyman replied to stoken6's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Yes I had one for my previous iPad air 2 which I found very nice, but when I changed to the iPad 7, I couldn't find a fitting one. I don't really understand why they only do cases for certain models, and not for all. What a shame as now the fixation system is useless for me ๐ Anyway, I ended up buying a universal tablet holder from K&M. -
ok cool ๐Thanks a lot in advance ๐

@ReezekeysYes Iโm also a big fan of recording midi at the same time as audio, for all the reasons youโre mentioning (particularly the one where you can adjust some notes here and there when youโre not happy with the timing or the pitch ๐). It also allows me to be more relaxed when performing ๐. The only problem in this particular studio is that Iโd like to record in the same room as the drummer and bass player, which is unfortunately further away from the control room. So no midi cable goes from this room to the control room. I then thought about recording a midi file directly in my iPad, and sync it later with the other tracks if needed. Iโm just wandering about the best way to sync. If I setup my session in Cubasis at the bpm we will be using for each track, this should be easy done, right?

Yes whatever I record, I will record it dry. I also prefer to have the possibility to tweak the effects during the mixing process.
