  1. For one thing latency may become an issue with such a long chain...
  2. That's a huge guest house. I recently converted my 2 car garage. It's almost done. I just have to clean up the mess. Inspections kills a lot of time in Arcadia/Pasadena. Not sure how bad it is in other places. I thought about doing a guest house but due to the size of my back yard, they would only grant a permit for a 'shed'.
  3. I've lived in a number of apartments in Northern and Southern California and owning an acoustic upright has brought many cops to my door over the years. Aside from a few speeding tickets here and there, %95 of my law enforcement encounters are piano related! Once I graduated, I was able to buy my very first house. My first priority was a house that would let me be a musician without having to worry about noise complaints. Buying the right house either solves that problem, or gives you a number of opportunities to come up with a solution. At least that's how it's been for me, myself and Chico the dog. Samual, I'm rooting for you and hopefully we'll hear some good news soon.
  4. Why was NASA's Apollo moon landing compared to Turkish airlines again? My parents have been using this airline for years, so I'm aware of a lot of problems...hence the confusion!
  5. 'Sometimes'...that's the keyword right there but isn't that true for just about any career? There are thousands of failed doctors, engineers, architects...etc...etc... in Los Angeles alone.
  6. They had two seminars. The second one was very technical. Unless you were a developer and/or a midi nerd, it was way beyond most average midi users. The first one was good though. It was more like a general information type of seminar.
  7. I asked one of the team members to see if I could do a private recording of this midi 2 spec announcements. He said, do you want the 3 or 10 hour long version! ha ha ha...it must be pretty deep!
  8. I think they were suppose to vote and finalize the specs during the NAMM weekend...and apparently they did just that. It only took 40 years... https://www.musicradar.com/news/midi-20-spec-confirmed-the-biggest-advance-in-music-technology-in-decades
  9. I take my headphones with me all the time. I've seen many others with their own cans as well. I don't even know if there's an official policy for this. So far no one has stopped me for the past 20 WINTER NAMMs. Security is a joke over there but who could blame them.
  10. Very tragic indeed. Just read this: "Paramedic teams rushed to the site, but determined that all nine people â eight passengers and the pilot â had already perished.". So 9 people including the pilot.
  11. This may not be the answer you wanted to hear but this is the easiest way for me. I just play the whole song on piano and try to incorporate the most important ideas of the song in there. Once that happens, it's super easy to do #2 of your list. I haven't been part of a band in ages so it's been a long time since I've done song-specific splits/layers..etc.
  12. Slide the tracks into sync manually? I did the same thing for a while, except I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro. One day a friend saw me struggling and trying to sync good audio with the camera audio manually...and he was like dude what are you doing? Just select the tracks, right click...select Synchronize and the software does it for you in seconds automatically! I'm sure a top notch editor like Final Cut Pro has even better features.
  13. Ah, didn't know Moog made one! Looks like it had an additional pad that goes under the pedals.
  14. No problem at all. Ok so you just clean up things that are associated with any midi keyboard/live performance. I just wanted to know if there were additional clean up steps specifically related to this rail. Glad to hear about your positive experience so far.
  15. How did you sync separate audio with video tracks? What software were you using?
  16. Thanks a lot Nathanael! I didn't think I was gonna get any response to this at all! Yes, QRS PnoScan could've been one of the midi solutions that I've seen before. I might actually go for this! I'm not brave enough to do it myself, but I could totally hire someone. The fact that it records velocity makes it even more interesting. I don't know if Hi-Lite does that at all. The only thing about Hi-Lite is that it's basically a portable collapsible narrow bar. I can think of many situations that I can totally use something like this. I requested a review unit. If it works, I'll get this one as it's an external unit. But for my own piano QRS PnoScan makes more sense. It'll be under the keys and people wouldn't even know it's there. You said: "The files need cleanup, but the notes/harmonies are all there." Can you please provide more info on this?
  17. I looked into this years ago. There were a few options, but they required some sort of internal installation. I wasn't serious about the subject so stopped looking....until I saw The ONE Piano Hi-Lite bar at the NAMM : This is a Chinese company that makes games and lessons for young beginner keyboardists. I have no interest in any of that at all, but when I saw the bar I asked if it could be used for recording midi. According to them you can place it at the very top of the keys on an acoustic piano and capture your performance as a midi file. I guess I was the only one who was interested in this feature as they couldn't tell me how accurate this could be with advance piano works. I'm very skeptical. Something tells me it'll miss like half of the notes...or a great number of notes depending on the tempo, number of notes and dynamics. If it does a good job, there's a great potential for the pro community. Has anybody used any existing old or new technology to record a midi file using an acoustic piano?
  18. I played it at the NAMM. The Essential version is VERY light. I wouldn't call it semi-weighted at all. They didn't have the fully weighted model in their booth.
  19. Maybe you can buy two used GoPro cameras? or use your cell and one GoPro? The only thing with GoPro is that you need real good lighting. Here I use a DAW to capture audio and a GoPro for the shot above the keyboard. The shot from the side is a DSLR. I know nothing about color grading and video settings in general. This is plenty for my needs anyway. I hardly ever say anything in my videos, so generally I don't have to worry about recording my voice...but when I go to trade shows (such as NAMM..etc), I use a wireless Sennheiser AVX lavalier mic. The receiver plugs directly into the camera so it's very convenient for recording a much better audio. It wasn't exactly cheap though. If you're only recording your own voice at home, you can just use a standard mic. You'll also need an audio interface that has enough I/O for your keyboard(s) and mic obviously.
  20. They keep using #NAMM2020 in their official posts...but why if they're not actually going to be part of it!
  21. I'm sure the book refers to brand new and/or quality pianos and not some lucky deals. Otherwise it's VERY easy to find free or ridiculously cheap pianos.
  22. Not even if you lived in 1900 I guess! I took this pic from a book called 'Piano 300 - Celebrating Three Centuries of People and Pianos' . Not completely present in the pic, there's an interesting marketing reference at the bottom of the page as well.
  23. So midi 2.0 is officially getting incorporated then?
  24. This is the first thing came to my mind: https://www.tesla.com/cybertruck Edit: Who knew! Just saw this after making the post. "Designed by the German Auto Manufacturer Audi" . My mind wasn't playing dirty tricks after all!
