  1. Rephrase - I dont know a lot of people who chat about their taxable income as small talk.

What are club date gigs paying in 2019? How many are you getting a month these days?

Do you need to supplement with lessons and other non performing jobs?

Do you get any union or contract work? Whats that paying a show in 2019?

Those doing A rooms and/or national tours, whats that paying per show in 2019?

  2. It substantially reduces noise, wobble and bounce . It is not a light action. Its quite heavy at the fall-board. After playing organ I am going to have to build up to the strength required. I want my associates to play it a lot for me so it loosens up , actions are typically stiff when new.

"it's not a right action... it's quite heavy at the fall-board" - different in this respect from your PX-360?

  3. I found I can load the Piano songs via the MIDI menu in Chordona.

now I am transferring my classical favorites into the users song library (max 10 songs).

Apparently there are no on-board classical pieces built in to the S3000. Which I like to have on hand at the touch of a button at weddings. MY PX-360 and CTX-700 have many built in classical songs ready to play. Hmmm

Jazz+, one more time. Does the updated Casio action reduce or eliminate wobble and action noise?

at 1:45, thanks. And I was going to be impressed with your language skills! I did pick up one thing I understood, at 1:25: "aftertouchen, bravo!"

The PC4 does use the SP6 action. It does not use the SP6 enclosure

Ah. And yes, in looking again, the side panels are different, and the angle of the control panel seems like it's steeper. And while I think the back still looks somewhat "winged" (i.e. with recessed connectors along the top and a cutout along the bottom), it's also a little different in the actual contours, including an out-and-in bend where the SP6 was flat. My powers of visual observation are not so acute. ;-)

I do not know of nor have heard of any plans for a 76 note version. (But I would welcome one of course!) If there were ever to be a 76, I'm not sure which action they would use. I'd guess and hope that it would be the same hammer weighted action as the 88, similar to the Forte and Forte7 both using the same action.

Someone posted that a Kurz rep at musikmesse said that a 76 semi-weighted would be forthcoming... but as with the game of telephone (even without possible differences in language), I'd say it would be premature to take that as gospel. If the Artis series is going to be entirely phased out, I would hope for a semi-weighted PC4 to take the place of the Artis 7, but I guess time will tell. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll do what Nord does in the Electro and Stage, make 7x key versions available in both hammer and semi-weighted variants. I don't think any other company has done that, though... in any given line, companies tend to pick one or the other.

I personally think it's highly unlikely that they would use the SP4-7 semi-weighted Medeli action again. When I worked at Kurz, I received a good amount of negative feedback on that one. (Not quality-related, people just didn't care for the feel.)

I was much happier with the later SP4-7 I played than the first one, because my first one had very sharp edges to the keys, which made organ playing painful. The later one was much better, and I actually was pretty happy with that action. Though I bought that one used, so maybe the previous owner had filed it down. ;-) I actually liked the SP4-7 better than the Artis 7 as shipped, because the SP4 didn't spring back as hard... but once I put different springs in the Artis 7, I liked that better, for its longer key length and more even front to back response (though even the SP4-7 was better in that respect than boards like the Roland DS/FA and Korg Kross/Krome).

PC4 in 76 semiweight would be an awesome replacement for the Artis7.

If the Medelli action solves the shortcomings of the TP-100 and is just as light - I sorta wish Crumar had looked at it for the Seven.

  5. The N3/3x is awesome for a digital piano.

Yes of course still not a C3 or D, but its the best action youre going to find on a digital and an extensive monitoring system for the sample library. I havent played the Kawai Novus yet. Although I am eager to.

  6. If youre playing at home VPC-1 or an MP11 or a Kawai digital console with a laptop and tons of AU/VSTs that dwarf the Nord library starting with Keyscape and maybe Garritan CFX.

yea, true, but if you dont gainstage them right, they will sound like azz

Yeah but thats true for all PC based rigs and even user created patches on high end instruments and sadly even factory patches on cheaper models.

I also doubt this instrument if going to be under $4999.99 in the US. I might be wrong on that but thats my guess.

  8. First thought: Too heavy for me to gig with. Anything north of 18kg these days, I just won't deal with. My MODX8 does 80% of what I need these days at 13kg and for anything more serious pianistically, I still have the CP4.

Second thought: This could be an attractive choice for permanent installation into a home studio if you couldn't afford or have room for a decent piano.

Third thought: But if it wasn't going anywhere, you could get a better action and save a whole bunch of money by just buying an MP11SE.

Which is why Kawai didnt agree to share the GF action most likely.

  9. OK, finally made it out to GC to try out.

Was really wanting to be bowled over, have a divinely delicious pianistic experience, ready to move on from the synth and semi-weighted boards, most of which are only 61 notes.

But it's been awhile since I seriously played weighted action, which I like 'cause it gives good control over volume. Unfortunately I was NOT pleasantly surprised. Took a fair bit of exertion for me, guess I was hoping for something between a semi-weighted and a weighted. On the plus side, the action did NOT feel mushy and vague, and perhaps with time I'd get used to it and like it, hard to tell.

The sound was coming from the onboard speakers in open space, and they were decent, but there wasn't much volume happening. I can imagine that pushed up against a wall there'd be much more volume.

The form factor is pretty compelling, so not-deep, so light, so battery powered, and the stand is solid, unlike the super cheap ones on the WK and MZ series.

So.... now that the PX-S series has opened me up to getting an 88 note instead of a 61 or 73 note board, I'm wondering what else out there has an action that I'd like and weighs 25 pounds or under- am wondering about the PX-560-

    Ideally:

MIDI out / music stand / 25 pounds or less / audio in / battery powered /

If you dont like weighted actions and you didnt like the S1000 youre not going to like the PX-560.

  10. I'm under the impression Kurzweil needed to get weight down to compete in the gigger's scene, hence the Medelli in the SP6. Their other meat and potatoes is the Broadway shows where they also now compete with software and who knows what controllers. In that scenario, the TP-40L based models are great for playing acoustic piano, electric piano, strings, brass, synth, organ, etc. Pitch wheel, mod wheel, ribbon controller, foot controllers all useful. But I don't know how much these shows are using Kurzweil sound engines any more with MainStage and RMS KeyboardPatchSolutions.
