  1. At the end of the day it's all about the result. When I get asked how the hell does it do that, I say... it just does. I play my music & let Aspen wrestle with the details. ;-)
  2. Bob, I too see your point about using the trifold & not getting the full benefit of the SS. I don't think it's a "one size fits all" solution at all but rather an option. It still covers a lot of sonic real estate with the trifold but I wouldn't use it for "every situation". it's all a matter of what your needs are. I'm liking the duo fold idea for some things & then maybe letting the SS strut naked & letting it all hang out.
  3. B.J.Love, dude that rocks! That's what I dig about this forum, one day it's a "shark tank" & the next it's a "think tank" bubbling over.
  4. Thanks for the kind words gang. All in all pretty inexpensive set up... Got the panels pre-cut at Home Depot for $5.00 each (I lucked out, clearance sale item) & the "hinges" are good ole' black gaffer tape, easy to put on & holds great. I put a large door stop under the SS which raises it about 3". The 24" height serves me well because it isolates the sound from bleeding on the other band members yet still having wide dispersion... Aspen you're a genius.
  5. Sorry about the giant photo but there you go & thanks Brettymike.
  6. Well I tried the Flickr thing & that didn't work. The panels are 12" width & 24" high.
  7. The middle section of the trifold is against the back of the SS & the sides fit with a few inches of space. I'm looking for a way to download the pic but I don't see anything in the reply space that says to load pictures.
  8. Tried to upload a pic of my trifold but no luck... sorry. Take my word for it though it really makes the "spread" field pop!!
  9. I set up a home made acrylic trifold (12" x 24") enclosure placed behind the SS & set it 8' from me, played an organ patch from my FA-06 and had the "Aspen Epiphany Moment" (AEM)... it felt like parts of the sound were literally to my far right & far left. I then played a sequence and walked around the room, the whole room was a sweet spot, even outside the room it the stereo field was felt... for me the trifold baffle made the difference. And it wasn't a matter of volume but rather a comfortable rich stereo field, for loud barking directional blasting it holds its own in mono mode. I used this set up in church (a pretty large bldng) & everyone was looking for my "multiple speaker system"! ;-)
  10. Nothing I can say that hasn't been said in depth already, but when my SS arrived this week I spent hours in aural bliss... this unit is a game changer. As Timwat said you need to go dry (or very little wetness ) on the APs for a more authentic sound but the EP spoke to me like never before. I used it for fake book chugging on a small single gig with my PX-5S then last night cover music at a huge birthday bash with my RD800... some massaging is required for the venues but the SS responds like a champ, definitely overjoyed. Thanks Aspen, your name will definitely be among the Mount Rushmore of creative innovators in the history of music (and thanks Timwat for your avatar).
  11. MathOfInsects, looks cool but isn't it heavy foe daily set up & tear down?
  12. Sweetwater just contacted me... it's on its way. BTW, Timwat what's up with the new avatar? I miss the the old one.
  13. Did anybody mention the 1980's "One Trick Pony'? A great movie written by & staring Paul Simon and a who's who of monsters at the time: Booker T, Steve Gadd, Tony Levin, Eric Gale, Hiram Bullock & Hugh McCracken. It's about an aging, irrelevant rockstar trying to recapture lightning in a bottle with a new label. This movie spawned such deep pocket grooves like "Late in the Evening".
  14. Is there a prize for whoever hits the hundredth posting on this topic?
  15. Aspen, What a class act you are, great job explaining the SS V.3 with such clarity. I've ordered mine & looking forward to breaking it in. As the saying goes... for those who understand no explanation is needed & for those who don't no explanation will do.
  16. But that shouldn't be happening so easily. Good sounds but corners cut in the craftsmanship?? Not good.
  17. Wes, that was it!! I need to a new prescription on my smart pills... thanks.
  18. I meant to say an EV series expression pedal.
  19. Just got my VR-09 & the expression pedal's not working, I'm using a Roland EV series volume pedal so what's the deal?
  20. Agree with mcgoo. Road cases are the best, sturdy and readily available.
