  1. Not sure these have enough bass for me. The other thing is I’d like a more encompassing sound than a small sweet spot, don’t want to have to place things in the perfect place to get a satisfactory result. If I have a party, or even other musicians over to jam then I’ve gotta have something more substantial I think.
  2. Interesting, I do have an old 5 piece surround I haven’t used in about 15 years, I’ll have to look at the inputs on the back of it. I wasn’t sure pro gear and home gear was compatible but if your doing it then it must be.
  3. Yep, this is what I usually use because my wife has a home business and I have to behave, but when she’s done her work day and especially, if she’s out of the house…, I like to let loose and let her rip as best I can.
  4. That amp and speakers must sound sweet, I can only imagine, nice !
  5. Trying to decide what to buy for my Kurzweil keyboard use at home. Right now I’m not in a band and may want something to use for that purpose but at the moment I just want better sounding speakers for my personal enjoyment. I do have the Spacestation but it’s not tickling my fancy. I also have a nice QSC K8.2 but it’s not a pair and it doesn’t work that well as a single unit. I’m on a limited budget so can’t be doing anything fancy. So the Motion Sound 612 has caught my attention but it’s a little pricey and I’m not sure if it would sound better than a pair of the QSC’S? I could try to sell either my Spacestation or my single QSC or both and offset the cost of a Motion Sound but will it be worth it? I could use it if I join another band. Or buy the matching QSC and try that but I have my doubts I’ll be happy with that. Then I’m also thinking maybe buy a pair of monitors instead, maybe like the Yamaha HS 8? I heard they sound good. I don’t do any recording or anything where you need the flat response of a monitor so not sure if that’s the way to go. I just want speakers where I can really enjoy some lush rich sounding audio that won’t break the bank. I play mainly classic rock and pop, lots of piano stuff, but sometimes organ and left hand bass too so maybe need the bigger speaker like in the MS? The main use will be at home and I really don’t care about the weight of it. Any solutions, suggestions? Both my Spacestation and QSC are like new and available for sale if anyones in the market for those.
  6. I can’t play anywhere close to Jerry or any rockin boogie stuff, just don’t have the talent. My fingers hurt just listening to how he slides and shreds. He was amazing!
  7. I had the same problem and put the app aside out of frustration. Interested to try again.
  8. Dam, thanks for the post. That was an unintended 1 hour distraction I couldn’t escape from… a Supertramp blackhole pulling me in deeper and deeper. The good old days…
  9. Hi Jim, I’m experimenting a little bit as well with iOS pianos. Like you, I have Ravenscroft and a variety of the Igrand pianos. I tried the Korg American D and Ivory and although not iOS, I’m using the GSI Gemini Steinway and Yamaha as well as my Kurzweil pc3k stock and Dave Weiser’s gig piano’s. For me, none of them cover all the bases. Different songs sound better on different piano samples, but it’s time consuming figuring out which songs sound best from one of the piano sources because you end up tweaking them and then comparing them continuously. I’m not playing live at the moment so it’s kind of a neat little meandering road of sound that I’m trying to decide which I like best. I find none of them is head and shoulders above the rest especially now that I’ve upgraded my mixer to a Key Largo. That one purchase has been one of my best ever, it’s brought a better quality tone to the Kurzweil pianos that weren’t there before, as well as bringing new life to all the pc3k samples. The Key Largo improves the sonic quality of every sample I use regardless of it’s source. Curious to hear from others on this subject. I do favour the Ravenscroft but for some reason there is some midi issues when switching to and from or with the IK grand using my Kurzweil as the controller, can’t figure that out yet.
  10. Chief, That’s the second biggest Bass I’ve ever seen!
  11. So I finally received my Key Largo mixer and I have to say like many others here have previously stated, it is a very good little mixer which has now replaced my Allen and Heath zed10. I ended up also getting a Samson QH4 headphone amp which sounds pretty pure as well. The KL mixer is so clean and quiet and does not colour my Kurzweil pianos, in fact, they sound so much better now I can’t believe they are coming from the same synth. Not only that, all my other PC3K patch’s sound much better as well, it’s really an eye opener (or ear) for sure. I can’t say enough…, so happy I invested in it based on recommendations from people here on this website. Thanks to all. Now next purchase- maybe some Yamaha HS8 monitors for my in home listening pleasure?
  12. Malcolm at https://www.enjoythesirens.com/ has some very good quality patch’s of various famous songs. Some items available are not listed on his site but just ask him what else he has. You might be interested in his 80’s various set, Springsteen,Rush, or Heart sets, I bought them all and have modified probably all of them to work in many other songs. Good guy and very helpful, check him out.
  13. I had a set of DXR8’s and a DXS 15 sub, I’m still trying to figure out why I sold them, they were great. I sold them as I wasn’t in a band at the time, wasn’t utilizing them and wanted a Spacetstation but didn’t have the cake to buy it. Now I’m not using the SS and have moved on to the QSC 8.2 but miss that Yamaha sub , it was awesome. I highly recommend the Yamaha’s.
  14. Yes, funny that early on he was striving for realistic orchestral instruments through a mellotron and also pursuing an acceptable piano solution utilizing what instruments they could afford or borrow, and then creatively implement some sound processing with things like the MXR phaser and Boss chorus pedals on his Hammond and RMI keyboards and come up with an incredible blend that evolved minimally for about a decade. Most of the Genesis purists love Tony’s keyboard setup during those years and actually complained when he strayed or should we say evolved to more modern synths in later years especially for touring purposes. In interviews Tony has downplayed it stating that sticking to the exact keyboard sounds wasn’t that important to him when going on tour and yet, whatever and whenever he made changes, in my mind he always made it work and sound great.
  15. As previously posted check those outlets for any faults. Obviously any problems would need to be corrected. You might want to or convince the home owner into installing a GFCI outlet controlling the circuit that you or your band mates are using. Further to that you might want to invest in a surge protector to protect your equipment. Somethings odd, electricians almost always stick to code.
  16. I saw Steve on his Selling England by the Pound tour right before they canceled all shows due to co-vid. The venue was the Burton Cummings theatre (formerly the Walker Theatre) in Winnipeg, a 1500 seat historic building built in 1906 with incredible acoustics which even Steve commented lovingly that they don’t make them like this anymore. His first set was the usual run of the mill solo offerings which were done well, but the crowd were really there to hear Genesis. The show was great and the musicianship was absolutely top notch. Did it give me the same thrill as a Genesis concert? No, but it was special seeing him and hearing his spot on versions of that classic album, even had some goosebumps on my arms during Suppers Ready. One thing I did not and do not like in all his shows is him having Rob Townsend playing English horn or soprano saxophone on a majority of Tony’s nifty synth solos, it is just downright irritating to me. He plays great but I just don’t like that substitution. Why isn’t Roger King playing them? Are they over his head? I doubt it. Anyway enjoyed the show and was glad to finally see him before he retires, it was worth it especially in that small intimate setting. Genesis, I saw again in Toronto last November and although it was great to see them one more time, I walked away unfulfilled and longing for tunes of yesteryear. It was sad to see Phil frail and a shell of his former self. The band was missing his old and familiar stage presence. His son Nick was good enough on drums, but the whole band package was just kind of a sad departure in my mind. At least my Keyboard hero was all business and performed flawlessly once again, and you just know he was doing everything in his power to present the best show possible.
  17. All sorts of cool band tee shirts at this site: https://www.cuptees.com/ They are big sizes I usually wear a xl but L would have been the right size for me.
  18. Been done before friends, Here’s my old piano being sent to the music gods on my 50th birthday over 12 years ago. It was made by the Winnipeg Piano company in the late 20’s. There was no point in keeping it, it was completely shot, even the soundboard was cracked, so had a great bonfire with lots of friends, fireworks, drinks, a big feast, a ton of laughs, and nobody will ever forget that night. I used to play the Maple Leaf Rag on it at a pretty good tempo. Scott Joplin stuff were the only things that actually sounded good on it. Tried to play it while it was burning but when it fell on its back to much damage prevented the hammers from moving.
  19. Not being familiar with Joe’s music, does he have any cool songs that would be good for solo piano?
  20. Hey thanks for that info, sounds like you’ve been down this road I’m on now. Can you suggest any name brand or model devices regarding a headphone amp?
